Waverly Basketball hall of fame
With Kretzer recently breaking the career scoring record, it got me thinking about the greatest players in Waverly history. I would like to break it into two categories. The 3 point era (1988-present), and the 2 point era prior to that. This is just a post for nominations...All names will be considered, let me here what you think...

Re: Waverly Basketball hall of fame
I will start with the old era...In 1970, the Tigers reached the state tourney with three of the best players in Waverly history. . Phil Miller, regarded by many as the best to ever play at Waverly. Denny Thompson, the former career scoring leader. Rick Eblin, the center on the team, and from what I understand, near unstoppable. From there I move to John Shoemaker. He graduated, I believe, in 1974, and is regarded as one of the best to ever play at Waverly. He played at Miami and then was drafted by the Dodgers. He currently is a manager in their farm system.

In the 3 point era, you would have to start with Kretzer. In my humble opinion, the most complete basketball player in Waverly history. From there, the debates will start. For my money I would include names like Shea, Reuter, Martin, Ramsey, and Darrell Howard...Can't wait to hear what everybody thinks...

What was the sharp shooter's name that graduated in 1993...played with Shea. About a 5'7 buzz cut guard.

Oh and i still think Miller was the best all around ball player I ever saw at Waverly, with Shoemaker and Kretzer rounding out the top 3.imo
Re: Waverly Basketball hall of fame
I believe John Shoemaker is the only Waverly player ever drafted by an NBA team. Didn't Bobby Thompson play for Ohio State?
When Waverly reached the state tournament there were only three divisions in basketball. Pretty impressive. The best team Waverly has ever had I would say.

Phil Miller and Denny Thompson I think both played at Ohio University. Shoemaker, Shea, and Kretzer are all terrific.
