The Warren/Athens softball game was one "hittin" game. I watch the baseball games but will turn around when I would hear a solid hit coming from the softball field. I watched as much softball last night as baseball. Athens and Warren were in a slugfest, lots of gap shots and some great catches in the outfield by both teams. The score didn't indicate how much hitting was going on. Very entertaining.

I would have thought Ironton had alot more than 4 errors. If we could just do the little things,i.e.looking the runners back, advancing on throws, hitting a cut-off instead of trying to throw someone out at home from 200+ feet and allowing the runner to advance 1-2 bases, then and only then might we have a chance.Anyways Congrats on winning the South again.Maybe next year...

Oh and heres hoping Emily Lilly has a quick recovery.Word is torn ligaments in her ankle.Emily is one tough nut, never complains will go to war with you hurt or tired. She is one of the special ones I've had the privledge to coach.

EDIT TO HOSSCAT: Ask any of your girls about the condition of our infield. It is by far the hardest we play on, and recently the city put some dirt on and drug it when it was wet and left huge ruts all over. In addition, we can drag that thing til Jesus comes and will continue to bring up gravel. I try to be fair in my scoring; especially on balls that eat girls up. They're not pros, and as it was our kids had 8 errors, including 6 in the infield. Our coaches and girls have exhausted themselves trying to make the field as good as they can. They were dragging, raking and hosing it up until 4:30 this afternoon.

Lots of talent on that Ironton team, I would think that team would roll in their league. C'mon girls show them what you got.

Wouldn't Logan be at the top with a 7 and 4 record?

Logan------7--4-----x-------636
Marietta----7--4-----x-------636
Warren-----5--3-----1/2-----600
Athens------4--4-----1 1/2 --500
Zanesville---0--8-----5 1/2---000

gahs4ever wrote:Those standings dont add up. There are 23 wins and only 22 losses. Might be an important items to consider. But for my money, at this stage of the season the loss column is more important than the win column. You can make up wins you are behind because of fewer games played, but once you are behind in the loss column you need help.

I was going on the person saying Athens was 5 and 3 but I guess they are 4 and 3 with their game called off yesterday.

That was my fault. I thought Athens had the same record as Warren

Marietta beat Athens 7-0 in SEOAL softball game at Athens tonight (Wednesday)

It's a pretty wide open race right now in the North .. Athens will be at Warren Thursday in a makeup game then will host Zanesville in league doubleheader Saturday .. also has a game to be played at Warren next week some time.

Portsmouth played a good defensive game and beat Jackson tonight 6-3. The same two teams will hook up in Portsmouth again on Saturday for a makeup that was suppose to be played in Jackson. The game is being moved because Jackson is once again victimized by not having a field of their own and falling prey to the city rec league's schedule.

Jackson plays at Gallia Thursday evening in a fundraising game to help fight ovarian cancer. Game starts at 5pm.

Jackson will play at home against Ironton on Friday. Seniors for both teams will be honored prior to the start of the game.

Total so far from the Gallia-Jackson Strike-Out-Cancer game is $939. The Jackson girls collected $400 which will be sent to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition and the Gallia girls collected the rest at the gate and donated a percentage of their hit-a-thon fundraiser. That money will be donated to the Holzer Cancer Center. Thanks girls for a job well done.

More donations were collected at the gate but the Gallia AD decided that he needed reimbursed $150 for the evening since admission to the baseball and softball games were not collected. Pitiful!
