Enough is enough. Whatever is going to happen needs to take place quickly. The constant rumors are not helping anything, especially the kids involved. Peebles has good coaching at the varisty, JV, and Jr. High, so let's get on with it. If the administration thinks they need a change, then I feel that we have people here that can do the job. Why hire outside of the system as before and then they move on to bigger and better things fairly quickly. We need people in place to build for the future, and I believe they are already in place. Teams that compete year in and year out have people in place for an extended period of time and they are preparing their younger players for the future.

As in the past, I am absolutely positive and reassured in the future of Peebles Basketball with the members of these panels and their "expertise". LOL, just Kidding. What a joke. :122245

That is unfortunate. Coaching is so much easier to do from the stands.

I've heard some names being thrown around but I don't know if they are the ones sitting on the "panel" or the ones trying to oust Coach McFarland.

I graduated from Peebles and just moved back within the last year and just within the last year I've been able to pick up on one major thing. The athletic directors and administrators have no control over anything, when they should because it's their job. They decide to let the parents run things and give them what they want. To get rid of a coach whose just starting to build a program back is insane. Granted I personally don't know coach Mcfarland but I can tell you one thing, its not all his fault they lost some games last year that they should of won. Anyone with any basketball knowledge knows that in a lot of those games, the kids just beat themselves...NOT rebounding, not playing defense, not communicating with one another on the floor.etc....A coach can only do so much, and will make mistakes, every coach does, but a coach cannot go out and play the game for you and regardless of what all the whiney parents in the stands think, Mr Mcfarland should not be let go.. Its a down right shame, and literally shows where some parents heads are really at...care about the community, care about the team and most of all support all the PLAYERS, not just your kid.

Can we hear an amen??? Loud and clear? Great post peebles fan. There will be some that say that if the coach had discipline those things on the floor wouldn't be happening. How can you have discipline when there is no one in the administration willing to back him. When the parents gripe and complain instead of someone telling them how it is and if they don't like it they can take Johnny home, they listen to the crap and then this is what happens, it just snowballs. This administration had better get a backbone and get it quick or their program is going to come crumbling down in a hurry. If there's one thing Coach McFarland has done wrong, its worrying too much about trying to please the parents. Again though, when there is no backbone in the office, it's no wonder. Peebles won their first sectional in 5 years, they have good kids with talent, they were finally starting to get the community support back and this administration sees the need to oust the coach?? Seems to me that the ousting may need to start at the top.

I agree with you there, heck since parents want the coach gone, maybe we should just start at the top. Thats where change is needed most. Your right, they have all the talent, the parents just need to leave the hell alone and quit babying their kids and let them play the game. If parents whine about basketball and want the coach fired than maybe everytime a parent gets mad in any sport, than we chould call a meeting and hire a panel..lol..wow...talk about a joke

I don't think so. All coaching positions are year to year only, but normally what happens it that if the coach continues to want the job, it's his, and he is recommended for hire as a formality by the AD/principal. Pretty much lets you know their intention. I seriously doubt other coaches in the league are being "interviewed", namely Buecler, Young, Kennedy, to name a few!

Based on what I'm hearing Mcfarland is not going to be renewed. This is truly a shame and I'm not sure why anyone would want the job. Same thing could happen again next year if someone gets mad and chances are someone will.

With one set of parents upset that their kid doesn't get as much recognition as another, another upset because they think their kid should be playing varsity and isn't, a couple others continually making threats to take their kids somewhere else, yeah, I'd say it's only a matter of time.

From what I am hearing it is going to happen and neither the principal or the ad have the kahunas to tell McFarland. What a shame that they have become puppets in this travesty. It is obvious Justice is having the last laugh and his way in Peebles, and the school district and the administration is afraid to stand up to this kind of silliness. I guess it is true what they are saying around the s.e. dist. about Peebles being the laughing stock in this area.

I'm not sure that the school district can keep them from getting rid of Mcfarland but they do have to approve the replacement. Rumor has it that the district has already supplied at least one name who will not be approved. That name is in your post.

Rumors are that the other applicants include the head coach from Wheelersburg, an assistant coach from Eastern Brown, and possibly a former head Peebles basketball coach, Mr John Lawhorn. Again, those are just rumors.

shljunkie,

Throw in Portsmouth Clay's coach as another rumored replacement.

No disrespect at all towards Peebles but if you are coaching at Wheelersburg, what would draw you to wanna leave? As for Lawhorn, he decided to leave Peebles along w/the graduating talent that year, back in the late 90's...maybe he sees what "could be" w/this young, talented team.

a couple of questions/points about the peebles job:

is the administration in question the peebles or ohio valley administration?

no other peebles coaching job has been listed on the OHSAA web site, so this is not a standard procedure where all coaches have to go through the interview process each year. it also tells me that mcfarland will not be back next year.

i think that it has been previously stated, but doesn't loyalty count for something? mcfarland was willing to coach peebles through very, very lean years. shouldn't he be rewarded for doing that now that they are on the winning track?
