SHL Coaching Changes
Re: SHL Coaching Changes
It's all but official, won't be til the board meeting tomorrow evening. Lawhorn is at least in his 60's and has a wealth of experience, at both the h.s. and college level.
Re: SHL Coaching Changes
The decision has been made and that is all that matters. It's now time for everyone to get behind this coach and this team and support them, no matter your opinions or whatever. The kids deserve it.
Re: SHL Coaching Changes
What a joke now. Parents having their kids force other kids to have a coach not hired, by signing some petition. Utterly and insanely amazing. Can't these parents figure out that they are the ones being played and looking foolish. Are these parents even educated people, I mean come on, to expect a piece of paper signed by 15,16, and 17 year olds to hold any value is hilarious. They must assume that the Board of Education is a highly uneducated group of people to assume this. It is a shame what a few unhappy parents are going to do to a group of young men, not to mention the community. I wish Mr. Lawhorn the best and hope those young men can recover from this circus.
Re: SHL Coaching Changes
will justice stay at peebles or will he transfer since the guy they wanted did not get the job?
what are the reserve coach's credentials? or was he a favorite because he would be controllable?

Re: SHL Coaching Changes
Word is that he will be moving somewhere. Where I have not heard. Who is the reserve coach?

Re: SHL Coaching Changes
I've heard that he wasn't hired tonight to give everyone another week to "cool their jets" so to speak. Also, a parent has started a petition for the players to sign saying they won't play for Lawhorn and want Arey as the coach. Surely, the players won't sign it because that's dooming them if they do and Lawhorn does get hired!

Re: SHL Coaching Changes
who is instigating the uproar/petitions? is it parents or is it the kids? do the kids really care who their coach is? in many situations like this, the kids are only concerned about playing and having fun. the parents are the ones who get upset about issues the kids are not concerned with.
Re: SHL Coaching Changes
from a reliable source. it is parents that are forcing their children and others to circulate this petition because they did not get their way. again this administation is losing control fast and should be reprimanded heavily or replaced.

Has West Union found anyone yet? If nothing else at least they aren't staging the circus Peebles is.
Re: SHL Coaching Changes
I'm sure the kids at Peebles just don't want to lose any of their teammates and would like to see this all come to an end, however, so they can move on! Wonder if the administration is thinking that maybe they should have just left well enough alone, worked with the coach that was in place? When you let parents take control this is what happens.

Re: SHL Coaching Changes
Ahh, the whole situation over in Peebles really is turning in to a soap opera! With talks of a grievance being filed by a would-be coach, the petition floating around by a parent and possible transfer of their son and the new hiring being postponed, what will happen next? Guess we'll have to wait until next week's episode!
Re: SHL Coaching Changes
well; looks like this would-be coach is getting off on the right foot for peebles, having open gym and only a select few are invited. this soap opera gets better each day. sounds like this will make for an interesting summer show. maybe shljunkie was right, they should have left well enough alone.
Re: SHL Coaching Changes
First of all to clarify:This is Josh Arey, no secret name, no false pretense, and no silly nickname based on foot powder. I have not, and never had intended to file a grieviance. The administration is aware of this because I told them right away. This would be out of character for me, so I had no intention of doing so. I was content with their decision, even though I was disappointed. I did not create the current situation. I interviewed just like everyone else, my intentions regarding this subject have not changed. John Lawhorn is an excellent coach and would be an outstanding choice. I know that he, just as I, would do everything he can to make the kids better basketball players. I believe he and I both care about the basketball program at Peebles High School. I have children in the system and have worked with players of all ages to improve the teams here in Peebles. I mention this because I believe that most of the people that post don't care as much about the kids as they do about inciting rumors and turmoil. This is why I have chosen to post. Otherwise, I would not dignify any comment made by someone that probably knows as much about basketball as I do about field hockey.
A select open gym? Give me a break. I tried to have a junior high open gym and it fell thru because someone else had the gym. Afterward, the high school boys wanted to play so I told them I would stay so they could. I called no one, the kids did that, not me, and if they wanted to play again tomorrow, next week, or whenever, I would allow them to do so. It makes them better players and that is all I care about. (Actually the "select" comment is funny because I get accused of that at the elementary level.) Remember too that 90% of the kids at the gym have played for me and respect me as a person, teacher, and coach. That being said the coaching decision is not in my hands, everything happens for a reason and I truly believe that everything will turn out for the best. The kids will play, there will be a coach, they will do well, and be an absolute joy to watch. I, like so many others, am excited for the future of Peebles Basketball and I believe the community, parents, and players will unite and encourage the kids.
And by the way as cryptic as your usernames are, your online personas are easy to figure out. I wonder if everyone would be so candid if they had to put their real names?Hmmm........

Josh I don't think you could have said what you did any better. I have always known you to be a good and honest man of great character and this shows through in your post. You acted proactively instead of reactively to the this situation and the comments made about you both on this forum and in the community. I truly believe that you have the players best interest in mind in this situation and would never once seek to gain any personal benefit for yourself from this. Anyone who would say otherwise would be falsely and unjustifiably be accusing you of an untruth. I hope that the Administration and AD's make the right decision not for themselves, the parents, Mr. Lawhorn, or yourselves, but rather the right decision for the players. I'm sure you will agree with me 100% on this point .
