JACKSON, Ohio — Five people were taken into custody Wednesday in a major drug bust that captured nearly a ton of marijuana.

Jackson County sheriff's deputies made the bust at a home near Jackson. Deputies had received a tip from North Carolina authorities that a drug shipment was being trucked into the state.

The shipment was followed by deputies, who raided the home after its delivery. While the deputies were executing the raid, a second shipment arrived.

The total street value of both shipments was estimated at $4 million.

None of the names of those taken into custody were released as of late Wednesday night.

Depending on which direction the wind is blowing someone could get one heck of a contact buzz when they burn all that to destroy it.

I don't think the police burn all of it at one time do they :?: ;-)

They usually do it using smoke stacks.

You'd literally have to get high as a 757 to get high off that. (weezy reference 8) )

That's gonna put a dent in that end of the county. Not much in Meigs/Athens as it is either grown here or comes from Columbus. I don't think Jackson is a stopping point to go to Columbus, but I could be wrong.

My wife got to see them unload all of this stuff off of the semi from her office window. They had the whole street blocked off.

HEre is a picture of the stuff wrapped up in a children's inflatable.

Legalize it, regulate it, and tax it at 33%...

...National debt goes away in 7 years.

Would also clear out space in our jails and prisons for people who actually commit
dangerous crimes. Not guys who like to get high in the comfort of their own home.

should be noted before it is assumed, I am not one of those guys.

Yeah, I'm not either. But there are some positive points to the legalization. Although, I don't think that's a path America should take...it's a dark path.

Open legalization with loose regualtion, yes is not the correct path.

But, as stated earlier take weed, tobacco, and alcohol and regulate them well
with a tax rate on these items of 33%.

Then you could eliminate the 47% GAS tax.
Gas prices automatically go down 47 cents per gallon,
More people with more money to spend.

More money going into the economy, less problems with over crowding in jails,
hemp as a renewable resource for textile maufaturing and alternative energy sources,
weed is already America's largest cash crop.

Also take this into consideration:
ANNUAL AMERICAN DEATHS CAUSED BY DRUGS

TOBACCO ........................ 400,000
ALCOHOL ........................ 100,000
ALL LEGAL DRUGS ................ 20,000
ALL ILLEGAL DRUGS .............. 15,000
CAFFEINE ....................... 2,000
ASPIRIN ........................ 500
MARIJUANA ...................... 0
----------------------------------------
Source: United States government...
National Institute on Drug Abuse,
Bureau of Mortality Statistics

Great job by the deputies by the way.

They released the names this morning of those arrested. Roger Baisden, Ronnie Baisden, Mark Morlock, Leona Penna, and a Gonzalas man whose first name I missed. Both he and the Penna woman were from Texas. the other three were area men. Congrats to Sheriff Shasteen, Chief deputy Ephlin, and all the other law enforcement for handling two major crimes in the area at the same time and for getting results on both. Keep up the good work.

If it was marijuana that was not taken care of (aka ditch weed), it wouldn't be worth much anyways.

haha, you def wouldn't be surprised at the amount of stupid people here at OU. There's this hill behind my dorm that has a wooden walkway (so it looks like it's hidden, but really...not even close)...and well a lot of people smoke there. The smoke comes down and right into my Resident Director's room, so he calls the cops.

Drugs are definitely a big problem in Athens County.
