Piketon Jr Hi Shootout July 12th

Well, we have the pools set for the Shootout. The rules will be two 12 minute running clock halves. Common fouls take ball out of bounds, unless under a minute and shoot 1 and the bonus. Shooting fouls we will assess 1 point to team and 1 free throw. The clock will only stop under 1 minute left of each half. 1 timeout per half. We will be playing on the side courts, and they will be marked. When we made the pools up, we did not know the strength of every team so we divided them the best we could. We decided to make two big pools in case a team doesnt show, then everyone would still get at least 4 or 5 games. As it stands, if everyone shows, each team will get 6 games.

I coach VC's 7, but the games to watch will be VC 8 vs Warren 8 & Whelersburg 8.
St Clairesville's vs Warren & the 'Burg also will be good games. VC beat St. Clairesville in an OYB game in Zanesville last week, but no re-match Sat.

vikedman, Piketons 8th should be very good as well. They have played and split games against Wheelersburg team in mcgraw and other summer games.

I know that some of the teams in Pool B might be overmatched, but that was the best we could come up with, without knowing everyone. There are plenty of places to grab a bite to eat. Our boosters will have the booths open, but there is a Taco Bell, Frantina Diner in Piketon and two pizza shops. Plus Waverly, 5 miles north on 23 have a bunch of fast food places.

All teams are very talented.
I don't know much about my own team. They have had nothing together since 6th grade traveling squad.
This is a great way for most coaches to see what they will have this year.
It will be a great day, and I am sure everyone would like to see it become a yearly event.

Actually, I will be reffing games at the old gym. I am putting the older guys over in the air conditioning while sufferring through the heat of the old gym. The old gym is nicknamed the "Oven" for a reason.

O.K. I will meet you about 8:30- 8:45.
I will be without two good players, but we will be there. Playing eighth grade teams will be so benificial for us. Just hope we can compete and make it worth while for the other guys.

I had a hard time making that decision, but with Vinton Co and North Adams history I felt that they could hang with some teams. I know that one coach in your bracket said that he would have a rough time with anyone so there should be some competitive games.

I want to thank everyone who had a hand in pulling this shootout off and making it a big success. I know that there were a couple of teams that were mismatched, but when you put 7 teams together you are bound to have some mismatches.

I want to thank my refs, I hope most of you found your way home and are currently holding down the recliner like I am doing right now. To anyone who kept score thank you and thanks to the boosters and janitors. To the coaches and players, thanks there were some very good games and a lot of sportsmanship being shown on the court. Good luck to everyone who participated.

I am trying to figure out who traveled the furthest. We had Warren, River Valley, Wheelersburg, Leesburg Fairfield and Adena who all traveled around an hour to get to Piketon.

We plan on putting this on next year as well and any suggestions will be appreciated.

I am proud of what my team accomplished.
We went 4-2. 8th grade went 4-1. Both teams were missing some key players too.
