Re: D IV East Seedings
It's a Popularity Contest! Records don't mean anything and schedule strength only works for those schools having the most persuasion come vote time!
Re: D IV East Seedings
Regarding the seeds, I think it is a joke the way the selection was done!
I have never heard of a tournament selection being done by the way of votes??? It was a political set-up!!
If the selections were done in a normal manner such as putting numbers in a hat then each team representative pull one out or go by records.
I heard that some selections were unanimous by the way of votes, that it makes it unfair.
Name me any sport that a team with a losing record gets a #1 seed in any tournament? The only way that could happen is by drawing out numbers, and that is a fair way. Voting the way it was, is so unfair to many teams. This selection process needs to be changed. Most tournaments are done by records or strength of schedule.

The games are played on May 12th and May 15th. The games will be played at the team field who is seeded higher.

Re: D IV East Seedings
I think every district does it with votes. I know the central district does. I like the voting and not the drawing. Eastern probably got the #1 seed because of head to head with Southern. Makes sense to me.
Re: D IV East Seedings
I heard that many teams explain why they loss to certain teams but didn't clarify what teams they had actually beat. Maybe instead of posting divisional break down each team needs to have a printed copy of their wins and loss with the final scores of that game. More information might help some coaches vote for who deserves it. 2 years in a row SOC II South Webster has to play a team that also plays in a larger league. Last year it was against Southeastern.
Re: D IV East Seedings
Its a shame that probably the 2 best team " not record wise but playing wise " has to face each other right off the bat. This game will be the best game of the whole sectional tournament. I hope either S.W or Oak Hill runs the table on the rest of the East

I don't know where some of you have been, but this voting has gone on for years and years. It goes back at least 17 years to when I coached girls softball and even longer when I was an assistant in basketball. The coaches present their records and then the coaches vote. In the past, I remember the coaches voted for the top x amount of seeds, took the top X amount of seeds, allowed them to select a spot in the bracket, then the remaining teams selected a pill to give them their order of selection for the bracket. Now, I believe the coaches vote a total order of all teams in the sectional and they are seeded into a bracket as they are voted.

Re: D IV East Seedings
I think Eastern got the one due to the fact that they beat Southern... Southern played a better game agains tthem but they also left 15 baserunners onbase, which cost them the game... the loss was by a score of 3-2... I think if Southern would have won their game on friday by bettering their record to 13-4 (instead of 12-5 which it is now) then they would have locked up the one seed. All i have to say is this is going to be an intersting tourney...
Re: D IV East Seedings
I think the opinion that some are suggesting is that when you have a group of teams from the same conference, are they voting for the best teams or making deals inside their conference for a better seed. It would be nice to see Oak Hill, South Webster, Symmes Valley, and Eastern Pike get a DH scheduled with any of the other teams so that someone else might have an idea of their talent.
Oak Hills opponents combined record is 222-204 (give or take a few)
S.W. opponents combined record is 155-157
Just look at the brackets and the teams records and then cross reference the teams they beat. Some people may be surprised.

Opponents overall record for Southern and Symmes Valley (give or take a few):
Southern: 83-158 (without Ripley or Vinton County)
Symmes Valley: 75-120
These were the records from teams they faced that are listed on the brackets.

Southern had a DH with Eastern Pike scheduled, they ended up moving it to 2 week day games. Southern won them both 20-10 and 19-9. Chapman did not pitch. They had a DH with Symmes scheduled for april 5th, Symmes cancelled. It was rescheduled for May 10th, Symmes cancelled due to lack of pitching!

Re: D IV East Seedings
Just get rid of the East and West Sectional and put all 20 teams together to seed themselves.
Re: D IV East Seedings
The central district doesn't even have sectionals. They seed them 1-16 or 1-18. However many teams there are. (Yes, the coaches seed them on their votes) then they play it out. Not many upsets because the high seeds are usually playing a very low seed. But they usually will get the best teams out of the districts.
I truly believe this and will continue to unless I start seeing some improvement, the D 4 SE District is not very good. There are maybe 3-4 good teams with everyone else being an average or poor team.
Also, what are you doing for 5 weeks and only playing 10 games? 2 games a week. How is this possible? I see the same thing with Rock Hill H.S. 10 games!! Rock Hill is suppose to have a state of the art facility!! Wow! That is all I have to say. And these teams wonder why they don't get any respect in the rest of the district. How can you look your kids in the face at the end of the year and say we gave it our best shot. Personally, as a player I would be upset to only play 12-15 games a year when you are allowed to play 27 plus tournament. This isn't Little League anymore. Wait, I think Little League plays more then this!!
