Has anyone been fishing with the water being up? I went yesterday and only had two lures with me thinking I probably wouldnt catch anything. I had a diving minnow and a spinnerbait. The minnow got snagged on the second cast so I had to break it off. I then used the spinnerbait and missed a few decent bites and then caught a drum and a gar in back to back cast with both being pretty good size. Then a couple of casts later I hooked into something really good that took my line out quite a ways and then ran in at me to the bank. I got it in about 20 feet away from me and it took off running again to the middle and snapped my line. I dont know what it was but I know it was nice and I have been fishing in the river for 15 years.
Has anyone else fished the river since it has been up? Seemed like one of the best times I had with lures and both fish I caught were decent sized. I know I would have caught more to if I had more lures on hand with me.

Were you fishing at a dam? We were fishing the river before the storms and were catching 100+ fish a day.

Re: Ohio River fishing
I am fishing about 1/2 a mile below the dam. It was definatley good fishing. I was looking at the water level for where I fish at and the water is rising slowly. I am gonna go back again if I have somewhere to fish from. Yesterday the only place I had to fish from was a rock surrounded by water and it was only about a 4 foot area to stand on. I have alot of luck in that area with spinnerbaits and rooster tails.

This is a good link if you fish the river alot and need to know he stages when it is high or you can tell what the water stage is when the fishing is the best. Like last night when I was fishing the water was 28 feet deep but it seems to be the best when it is around 25 feet.

Re: Ohio River fishing
Went fishing agin last night. I caught 13. 10 Striped Bass, 2 Drum, and 1 Gar. All the fish were above average. The biggest was a 11 pound Striper, a 9 pound Striper, and including its beak about a 3 foot Gar that weighed about 10 pounds. I have pictures that I will try and get on here. I caught all three of those on a big white Rooster Tail. The Gar seem to be running with the water up and I saw some MONSTER ones come up to the surface and go back down. I dont know what it is but with the water being up it seems I am only catching bigger fish, no small ones.
Anyone else have any luck?

Nothing like going down to the River all night listening to some Bryan Adams.
