Question about a call during game
Question about a call during game
I was at a girls basketball game last night between Fed Hock and Wahama and during the second half the refs called a jump ball. The arrow was in Wahama favor. Then the three refs got together and decided that the girl from Wahama was going to shot two foul shots. No foul was ever called on a Fed Hock player. What kind of calls was this?

Re: Question about a call during game
It was not a technical foul because all the players remained on that side of the gym like a normal foul shot and there was no indication that a technical foul was called. Every player was lined up like a normal. It is beyond me. No ref even went over to the score keepers to indicate what was taking place. I have watched alot of basketball games and have never seen this done before.
Re: Question about a call during game
I don't have a clue but I've never let that stop me from sounding off---My best guess was that one official ruled that he had a foul call before the other ref signaled jump ball---the conference could have thrown them off enough to forget to tell the book who the foul was on or they signaled it and you missed it----Someone at the scorer's table had to record a foul for foul shots to be taken (at least one would think)---They must have communicated to Jeff some how or he would have gone ballistic---unless he was afraid the foul would have put his player on the bench.
Or it was just a cluster--which happens sometimes and is another argument for an assigner.

Re: Question about a call during game
As it occurs many times one official will have a jump ball the other will have a foul. What happens is officials will come together and agree on one or the other. My guess is that this happened and after they agreed that a foul would be the correct call it was reported to the books without another whistle or drawing attention to them.
Re: Question about a call during game
As I stated before no Fed Hock player was given a foul. The lady doing the books said that the refs never told them who it was on. Jeff was talking to one of them and just puts his hands in the air. It made no sense to anyone.

Harley, I'll go with my last thought and call it a cluster----welcome to the TVC, and such is life without an assigner.

Just looked at the schedule. Wow, game was at Wahama and they also won. Imagine that.

Gotta sound the horn and get verification before the free throw is shot.

Re: Question about a call during game
After talking with coach Mckibben. There was a foul on the previous possession that put Wahama in 1 and 1. The ref missed it and the score keeper didn't sound the horn. That is a correctable error has long as the ball was not put in play after the jump ball was called. Kinda of a ugly call but according to coach Mckibben who has talked to some people about it the refs made the correct call.
