Re: GIRLS: SOC Girls Basketball
Peebles is looking for a 7th grade game only as one of the SHL teams will only have an 8th grade team this year. If any SOC team is interested please contact the AD at the school at 937-587-2681.

Soc 1
ND 8th grade will be good. They have a new coach so I don't know how well their 7th grade will be.
Eastern's 7th grade done very well last year and should be strong again.
Clay should be ok.
Green Should be ok.
Symmes Valley will be ok.
Western unless they worked over the summer will struggle.
New Boston same as Western.
East has some good players and should be better this year.
I look for ND and Eastern to fight out the #1 spot but it is Jr. High and anything can happen. The main thing is the girls play hard, have fun, and learn.

Does any schools have their Jr. High girls teams picked yet? If so, how are they looking. Any surprises to look for. Any early predictions?

West girls have had tryouts, they had I believe 30+ tryout so cuts were made. They should compete well at both 7th and 8th.

That's some great numbers for try-outs for West. I heard their 7th grade team last year was very good and I know that their 7th grade this year is very good. It looks like girl's basketball at West will be strong for several years. Coach Maynard is stepping in at a good time at the Varsity level. I heard that his numbers up at the high school level are also good. Good luck to Coach Maynard and the West girls!!

ND did'nt have enough 7th graders to form a 7th grade team --a couple 7th's are playing with the 8ths. team has lots of size but I did'nt get to see them play any last year. 1st scrimmage is tues at webster.
Last year Clay was really good at the 6th grade level. Minford has a great group at the 6-7 th grade level.

It depends --you wanting to see me in the parking lot ? Just kiddin --I'm scheduled to work tues and not coaching this year. Stephanie and April who coached v-ball are also coaching BB. I'm going to ask my partner to relieve me a few hours to be able to attend though. I'm curious to see how the team looks. team has lots of size. MD

Nd-Sw scrimmage report: they played 8 or 9 quarters . stayed pretty close thru out . both teams played a lots of kids. I'd give the edge to SW on the 1st string. Nice team with good size. Several polished players. hard to tell this early early , you could see neither team was in game shape. both were tired towards the end of the quarters.

ND scrimmaged West last night , as stated previously here West is very strong. The Leader girl is really nice player and they have several other fine players to aide her. The days of West being weak at the HS level will be over when these girls get up there. fine fine team. They can knock a few 3's down also.
Best of luck to my softball buddies from years past --- TJ Tera Journey , Abby , and Hannah. Hope you girls have a great year.

can't wait to see what happens. Peebles beat northwest in 8th grade and in 7th grade. Northwest 8th grade has probably got more height for a girls team than any other team around, with the meat to go with it. They just can't figure out what to do with it yet.

Based on the 7th grade teams from the other schools as they are now and barring any transfers, I think the main competition will be between Minford and West. Oakhill has a good 8th grade team that should compete well and they have some good players on the 7th grade team but you will see a lot of new faces on the 7th grade team that have never played with the rest of the team. Goodluck to all teams.
I agree. I would have to give the edge to the West 8th grade team, they were undefeated last year as 7th grade. They were to play a tournament championship game with Minford and it was cancelled and never played due to weather, but West had beat them during regular season.
Yes both West and Minford have good 8th grade teams. They were supposed to play for the county championship and it was cancelled twice due to weather. I can't wait for these teams to meet this year. I know West is having a great year and so is Minford. It should be another game right down to the buzzer. Minford will be West's toughest opponent. The Leader girl is a very solid player and a threat when she is on the court. The West 7th grade will be challenged by the Minford 7th grade girls. It too should be a barn burner. Good luck to both teams and lets see some excellent basketball.

Re: GIRLS: SOC Girls Basketball
I predict that Minford 7th grade will win, West 8th grade will be the other tournament winner. West 7th grade team is tough! They have been for a couple of years. Minford 7th grade has a lot of talent also. West 8th grade is also a very good team. It will be interesting to watch Tori Leaader from West and the Dever girl from Minford. These two will make the ball game very interesting. These two girls will go straight to the varsity team at their school next year. Coach Maynard's basketball program will get better each year. The Dever girl will move up to replace some of the talent that will be graduating from the Minford High School team this year. Good luck to all the teams in the tournament this year.
