Pike County 08-09
Pike County 08-09
This topic is for the 4 teams in Pike County,Ohio. Who will be the best in the county considering Piketon and Western were in the finals? Can Eastern or Waverly come back? My thoughts are that Western wont be as good as last year losing Kier and Downing. I dont know much about Piketons JV team. Waverly lost their bug guy i believe. Eastern has everybody back plus a new player from Kentucky.

Re: Pike County 08-09
Piketon graduated 2 seniors who contributed quality time. Breitenbach was a good power forward who worked hard on the boards and chipped in buckets from cleaning up the paint. Daniels was a good player off the bench who helped with ball handling and brought a spark to the game.
Piketon returns Brabson, Smith, Southworth and Legg all starters, plus bench players Miller, Helton, and Brush. They should be the favorites, but the county tourney is always up for grabs.
Waverly loses Walls, Arnett and Conley. They have some young players that can step up but they are going to be down for a while.
Western returns Shanks and Smithson plus a couple of others. They must find some ball handlers and penetrators to take the pressure off of the big men.
Eastern I know the least about, but they do return Deweese and some others.
The county tourney is always fun to watch. Usually the favorites dont win it, but we will see.

Piketon will be tough!!!! Eastern has everyone back and should be alot improved---I think they will surprise a few this year. Waverly and Western lost key players, who's stepping up for them???

Who is Eastern getting from Kentuckey? I think that Waverly has some good young talent there but I think that Piketon will have the best shot at, even though that Eastern has every one coming back.

Dont know his name but he is a pretty good ball player. Eastern has their entire team back possibly with a few transfers. Things are looking good for Eastern has of right now but if they want to win the Holliday Classic next Winter there going to have to make some adjustments from last season. I say the Classic comes down to Eastern vs. Piketon in the championship, Waverly vs. Western for the consulation game.

I'm sorry.... but he will have to be quite a player to improve the Eastern team that I watched Piketon demolish 76-36 in last years Holiday Classic!

i guess we will see jimmy the greek im not saying that eastern will beat piketon but i know for a fact eastern wont be a push over like they where last year
Re: Pike County 08-09
Jimmy, you ask how can a transfer and one year of experience change a team? I remember a few years ago when piketon had a young team led by freshmen kyle miller, eric farmer, and ely porter. That team got dismantled and demolished in a game close to the same score by the eagles that year. That next year, with a couple of transfers (from eastern no less) and an extra year of experience I recall that team fared pretty well. They went on to have great careers at piketon. That's how quickly things can change in one year.

Waverly lost 9 seniors. They return Roback (junior) and Martin (soph.) with varsity experience.
Re: Pike County 08-09
I am not saying that the new kid for the Eagles will win them more games, but he is good. The other players have improved themselves also so dont think that they will be the same team as last year.

Good point, however I didn't see any Miller's, Farmer's or Porter's on that team last year. I would like to see the Eagles get back to where they once were, however it's going to take more than one kid to do that. Just my opinion, in fact it would be great to see them upset Western in the Holiday Classic.

I think you missed j-birds point which was-----the eagles last year was made up of young inexperienced players, they were led by one kid with varsity experience, who worked his guts out night after night, but still fell short---so here we are coming up on a new season---everyone back---more experience----older---hopefully more mature---and mostly more desire.
So the classic this year shall be intersting!!! Time will tell.

Will the Thornsberry kid moving from Waverly to Eastern have any impact on the tournament?
Re: Pike County 08-09
I have seen Mason Maynard play and to be honest with you I dont see him being much of a difference maker.
