Jackie Boggs and Todd Robinson win "GCP Engines Twin 30's"
By: T. J. Layne

COAL GROVE, OH-After two postponements due to weather, the "GCP Engines Twin 30's" were finally able to get underway on Friday, May 30th. Over 1,000 people and 81 race cars were in attendance. The Tomahawk Race Car Modifieds had the highest car count of the night at 36.

The start of the "GCP Engines 30" Late Model A-Main saw a five car crash coming out of turn four on lap one. Unfortunately, the crash took out top runners Travis Brookover, Jason Montgomery, Shannon Thornsberry, and David Smith. When the action resumed, polesitter Jackie Boggs led while Greggie Oliver moved into the second position. Behind the two leaders, Shawn Holliday and Kevin Wagner battled side by side for third with Terry Hicks right behind them. Holliday moved into the third position for a few laps then Hicks got the position.

On the final lap, the caution flew for second place runner Greggie Oliver as he slowed on the track with mechanical problems, making a one lap dash for $2,000. On the restart, Boggs went up high while second place runner Hicks went down low. Off the final corner, Boggs pulled away to claim the "GCP Engines 30" and his second win in a row! Hicks finished second with Holliday third, Josh Bocook fourth, and Kevin Wagner fifth. Jackie Boggs won the Tri-America Contractors Dash while Terry Hicks and Rick Whitt won Engines Inc. heat races.

The second "GCP Engines 30", the $1,000 to win Tomahawk Race Car Modified A-Main, got underway with David Fitzpatrick taking the lead. Behind him, third place starter Todd Robinson battled side by side with Roger Wireman for the second position. Robinson got the position and then set his sights on Fitzpatrick. On lap seven, Robinson made the pass for the lead while Joey Back moved into the second position. Robinson held off challenges from Back and Fitzpatrick to claim the "GCP Engines 30" and his third win in a row! Back finished second with Fitzpatrick third, Rick Hensley fourth, and Tony Dehart fifth. David Fitzpatrick won the Tri-America Contractors Dash while Joey Back, Rick Hensley, and Adam Jordan won Engines Inc. heat races.

The opening lap of the Bomber A-Main saw a very scary crash as David Dunn went head on into the turn one guardrail and flipped several times. Fortunately, Dunn was ok. When the race went back green, Wayne Hughes dominated to claim his third feature win in a row. John Rayburn finished second with Perry Dearing third, Marshall Nelson fourth, and Eric Dennison fifth. Rayburn and Hughes won Engines Inc. heat races.

Just like on "Opening Night", the Mod Lite A-Main was a battle between Tyler Reno and Dennis Lampheir. Reno and Lampheir battled side by side for the lead in the races early stages with Reno leading. On a restart with 4 laps to go, Richie Armentrout and Lampheir battled side by side for the second position, allowing Reno to get away and claim his second win of the season! Lampheir finished second with Armentrout third, Chris Stone fourth, and Mike Weaver fifth. Lampheir and Reno won Engines Inc. heat races.

"The most exciting, action packed show in town" at Rocky Top continues on Friday, June 6th with Late Models running 30 laps for $2,000 to win, Tomahawk Race Car Modifieds $650 to win, Bombers $350 to win, and Mod Lites $200 to win.
