Waverly Vs. Oakhill 1/31
Re: Waverly Vs. Oakhill 1/31
We all know the coach has to make all the correct decisions in the heat of battle, make all the shots, play stifling defense, commit no fouls and take care of the ball.

It is a part of the game & life boys.. People usually do not stick behind their coaches like they did 30 years ago. This is the society we live in and unfortunately I do not think it is for the better. Waverly needs to win atleast one district championship soon or the boo birds will be coming out!

At burg they had Kretzer playing outside and had a double digit lead. Then in second half put him in the post and burg double teamed him. I think he only had 4 points in second half. Burg took it to overtime. He has just had great players to cover his poor coaching.
heard that same thing from a Waverly fan last night that hasnt had a dog in fight for several years now .....he has not been popular for some time from what i hear through the vine
Wow that's surprising to hear. What were the Waverly faithful saying about coaches who didn't make it to the Convo or won the classic?
They were saying what a GREAT bunch of athletes waverly had .......lol.....

evaluator talks like Waverly has a bunch of bad losses. They have played above the level a lot of people envisioned for them, Coach Robertson has done a nice job.

Re: Waverly Vs. Oakhill 1/31
From what i understand the criticism may stem from how the staff decides to finish certain games. When you see the same thing ending in a loss or near loss every time you do it people tend to get frustrated. As a spectator i see Waverly build double digit leads time and again by pushing the ball up the floor and attacking the defense. I also see Waverly pulling it out and sitting on a 5 point lead with 4 minutes to go passing around the perimeter until they turn it over. You have a legitimate D1 offensive player. When you play to win instead of not to lose you beat Piketon by 25, run Minford out of the gym. When they get a little lead and decide to sit on it is when they have trouble. Turnovers on the perimeter leading to easy baskets. You lose to Oak Hill after leading the whole game, you lose to Ironton after leading the whole game, you let Burg take you to overtime. Furthermore if you can score the basketball why are you holding it out front when you are lucky to shoot 50% from the line on a good night. When this team attacks for 32 minutes they are a tough beat.

So you are saying that the Waverly's coaching staff butts pucker up when the game gets close to the end. Interesting observation:)
Re: Waverly Vs. Oakhill 1/31
bluecavs,
the last time Waverly won a district championship was 1980, over 30 years ago. Robertson takes the Tigers to back to back Districts, something that hadn't been done for years and there are people all over his back. The best Tiger team in years (which one the SOC 06/07) didn't make it out of the sectional, and that wasn't Robertson coaching.
Everyone in Waverly expected the Tigers to take care of business Tuesday night, especially after the margin of victory at Oak Hill. But let's not kid ourselves, Oak Hill is a very solid ball club who nearly beat Valley at Valley (very tough to do). Norm is a geneous game planner and has a few more years experience. Hard fought losses to Warren, Ironton, Valley and Oak Hill - disappointed? yes, but I can handle that.
I know one of the goals was to win the league but, it will be a very good year if the Tigers win out and finish 16-4 by beating a very good Valley team.

Waverly is going to have to have a big night and hit their free throws to beat Valley. I think Valley will have a tougher time at Oak Hill
Re: Waverly Vs. Oakhill 1/31
The Oaks will be another big test for the Indians, that's for sure! But Valley has found a way to gut out tough wins when they didn't have their best game and have shown the ability to rise up in big games. I can't imagine the Indians will have a let downt this Friday, although I expect a very good game.Mr Basketball 14 wrote:Waverly is going to have to have a big night and hit their free throws to beat Valley. The hardest thing I'm having a hard time believing is you can make a post without blasting the coach and coaching staff. I guess the Indians not having lost in 2 months will do that do a guy. I'll give you credit though, you have talked about basketball lately and not just the basketball and football coach. It can fall on deaf ears when these teams keep winning, huh? Hopefully you'll be in Oak Hill pulling for the Indians instead of rooting against the coach!

Some people have unrealistic expectations. And as we all know hindsight is 20 20.
Coach Robertson and his staff are top notch. You won't find a staff anywhere that puts in more time, outworks them or has more basketball knowledge. I'll assure you the vast majority of Waverly fans who "understand basketball" would like to see this coach and staff stick around for a couple or more decades.
I really like the energy coach Robertson is getting out of the kids this season. That's the most intensity from a Tiger team in some time.

Re: Waverly Vs. Oakhill 1/31
We can only hope robertson is there for a couple more decades. After the last division 1 athlete leaves this year, it will be a long time before waverly wins anything. It couldnt happen to a more snobish group of fans. Any one who knows basketball realizes the truth.
Re: Waverly Vs. Oakhill 1/31
Snobs...yeah, this snob was born in Ironton General Hospital...that's real uppity.

The way to beat Waverly is Double Team Kretzer. You could let their guards shoot wide open all night and still beat them.
