OVC Basketball 2009
Does anybody have any predictions? I know some kids have left Fairland and they will look different. This should make it a race for this year. Is Todd Mayo coming back to South Point? I heard Chesapeake had some transfers in.

As of now, todd mayo is still planning on attending south point

I don't see the undefeated but possibly a championship. It all depends on who actually is on the court?
Re: OVC Basketball 2009
The only Fairland player that left was Lamb. The rest of them are still here!

Re: OVC Basketball 2009
This years OVC should be more balanced.
Rock Hill: The Redmen graduated their top 7 and lost probably the best post player in the conference in Davenport. They had a nice JV squad that was made up of mostly juniors and sophomores so the Redmen should stay competitive, but not as strong as last season.
South Point: Much like Rock Hill graduated they some top talent, but had a strong JV squad as well. The Mayo factor can be the difference in winning the conference and being a solid playoff team or being a team that could struggle.
Chesapeake: Could be considered a top tier team as they return a strong cast of players despite graduating top scorer Shoemaker. Rumors of transfers could make Panthers even stronger, but who knows.
Fairland: Like a finely crafted soap opera the Dragons summer has been interesting. With top player Lamb apparently suiting up for the Fighting Tigers of Ironton, Fairland will have to recover quickly. The rest of the starting 5 is back, but I can see the possibility of the Dragons struggling early, but being a top level team again.
River Valley: The Raiders will once again struggle to be competitive in the OVC, but will play teams tough as usual. River Valley should benefit from the new facilities that will be built in the near future for all the students there who desperately need them.
Coal Grove: The Hornets were probably the surprise team of the conference last season as Coach Randy Ward in his 1st season had the Hornets competitive for the first time in a long time. With several returning players I look for the Hornets to be the team that makes the biggest move in conference.

Sorry for the mistake, but The Dragons will still be a tough matchup for most teams in conference.
Re: OVC Basketball 2009
IMO i believe chesapeake will win the ovc this year...they have some solid players returning plus their JV team won the ovc

Re: OVC Basketball 2009
From ever report and interview I've read about OJ he has said that he wanted to take care of his brother and sister and wanted them to be close by. So if that is the case then I would tend to think that Todd making a move towards Memphis would not be out of the question.

Well I guess lil' bro and sis can be just as happy with Big Bro's millions in Southern Ohio
Re: OVC Basketball 2009
Mayo is staying at South Point. And the bad news is he is way better than last year. He make all camp at Chris Paul's guard camp which had the top 100 guards in the country

South Point will not walk all over the league im sorry to say....yeah fairland lost a couple of key players in bumgardener and lamb but they still have hatfield, zach jordan "nut", berry, bloomfield, and fisher....also they have a deep bench with jimmy chipwood drainin the threes and godby with the killer arms..lol

Re: OVC Basketball 2009
After reading the article in the herald,Todd made it clear that he had no intentions on staying at South Point. He stated that he was considering Mountain State Academy. With the loss of Mayo i think that SP will fall in the early favs.
Re: OVC Basketball 2009
Panthers all the way, even with Mayo the panthers were going to challenge for the top spot.

Re: OVC Basketball 2009
in my opinion with fairlands loss of lamb to ironton, south points mayo to memphis, i would honestly have to say that the panthers would be the frontrunner to win the ovc, i mean they return some key players from last years team that played alot of minutes.
