Fed Hock and Belpre are both div 5 in football not div 4.

I really wish administrators on this website would be more aware of copyright laws.

If you can copy and paste a story on here, you can copy and paste a link to the website that you pulled it from. Which is legal, since it is our production.

I see the newspaper source was referenced, but I can't seem to find the author.

BTW, one small correction to my story. Football league play will run weeks 6-10, not 7-10. A crossover game will appear each week during the final five weeks in the Hocking divisions.

I agree with what you say, but River Valley is not that much larger than Fed Hock or as large as you posted according to ohsaa they have
190 boys
199 girls
South Gallia has
100 boys
109 girls
Southern has
122 boys
107 girls
Eastern has
95 boys
98 girls
For a total of
Boys 317
Girls 314
Rv is div 4 in football and 3 in basketball as is Fed Hock And Belpre
Those numbers don't line up with the ones I have seen recently so I might need to look again. SG has 91 boys and Eastern and Southern I thought were both in the mid 70's. The games between north and south hocking teams wont count in standings so its not a huge deal for Hocking teams. It will become a big deal for RV when they get things turned around and are thinking playoffs though. Being Div 4 and playing in a conference with all D5 and D6 schools will make getting into playoffs nearly impossible. One loss will do a team in.

I am excited however about RV and SG getting a nice rivalry going.

You are not even close on these numbers. I don't know where you pulled them from? Southern 122 boys? Thats way off.

You have the wrong Southern and Eastern. The Racine Southern enrollments are 76 boys and 77 girls. Reedsville Eastern is 87 boys and 102 girls. South Gallia is 91 boys and 100 girls. River Valley is 190 boys and 182 girls.

I thought those numbers looked a little high.

Here is the link.

The Hocking north and south divisions will be playing crossover games in those weeks. Just like they will be playing in weeks 6 and 7.

Reading comprehension.
Are you from Fort Frye? Must have had Bostic, Liedtke or Bidwell for a reading teacher...... J/K.

It seems to me that football is the sport that decides what division a school is put in in this new 3 division thing. Just imageing what if volleyball was the big sport. Ohio division would be alex, eastern, athens,RV, and waterford. just saying

Very true but Football was, is and always will be the $ sport at the high school level except for schools that don't field football teams and then it's boys basketball because every school has one of those. Just off the top of my head both Russia and South Webster who don't field football have been to the state tournament in basketball recently. It'll always be these two sports in that order for any school dollar wise.

I wonder if dr evans from gallia county local schools knows that south gallia and river valley might play each other in a regular season game. The only reason she let's it happen in a scrimmage is the dollar signs.

RV? Seriously? The OVC is NOT the TVC in volleyball I can assure you. Alexander, Athens, NY, Meigs, Eastern, Waterford, South Gallia and Trimble are all stronger than RV in volleyball. The only reason I did not mention Vinton County and Wellston is because I have never seen them play.

I'm sure she will find something wrong with it at some point.

The divisions are basically based on enrollment except River Valley is in the middle division and Nelsonville-York remains in the larger school division. For purposes of the three divisions, this makes the most sense.

I am not bashing in any way and root for all Gallia County teams in every sport,South Gallia is about to take a nose dive in all sports for at least 3 years, talent just isn't there.I see River Valley having a pretty decent talent pool coming in to the HS grades.
I watch younger classes pretty closely this is my assessment. Just happens when you lose 12 or more seniors any year.
South Gallia has been decent in Volleyball lately but on a whole i would say they are not better than RV over the long run, there were years 3-4 years ago it wasn't even close.

SG's JV volleyball team is 11-2 overall and 10-1 in the TVC Hocking. The girls sports at SG have depth through the 8th grade. Currently have a weak 7th grade girls program but that will bounce back following year. Even the junior high girls track team finished 5th overall out of 15 schools in the TVC and 2nd in the Hocking. As for the boys, yes the football team loses a lot but that's the life of a small school football. If you talk to people really close to the football they will tell you one of the biggest reasons SG is having such a good season is because a few sophomores have really come on. The junior high football team is 2-1 in TVC so far and with the new midget league teams will continue to improve. Basketball will be fine for both boys and girls. Easier for a small school to be consistent because you can only play 5 at one time.

I wasn't bashing RV. I am just saying the level of volleyball between the TVC and OVC is not even close. SG played all the OVC schools, except RV, prior to joining TVC and almost always won. The Rebels and Raiders did scrimmage this year in volleyball and SG won 7-1.

I know that overall SG will be at a disadvantage against RV in terms of head to head competition. In football RV should dominate because of numbers. What SG lacks in numbers in that rivalry will have to be made up in the weight room and in heart. I know its a few years off but it should become a spirited rivalry.

Right now I am just hoping that SG can make trip #3 to the playoffs which isn't bad when you consider the school hasn't been around all that long.

With the exception of boys basketball NY competes well in all those areas too. The girls basketball program is loaded from 9th grade down to 4th grade.

As far as naming the divisions "north" and "south", that is about as uncreative and incorrect as naming them "leaders" and "legends".
