League titles? You mean 1 title in three years (going on four)?

Athens has finished 4th, 1st, 4th ... And its not looking good this year unless VC losses. The year they did win it - Athens was 19-1 and beat all the SEOAL teams on their schedule as well ... They would have been champs in either league they played in.

And who won the league in those other 3 years? Was it VC, which is the closest to Athens size?

The last time Athens was at the Convo was clear back in 1993 ... It goes to show that just because Athens is a 'bigger' school - they don't have numerous league titles or any good tourney runs to show for it ... You have to have 'basketball players' to put on the court - I don't care if you have 1,000 boys, if they can't run-jump and shoot - your not gonna win.

So you are saying Athens did not have 5 good basketball players in the school until recently? I don't think that is it. I think it goes back to the argument between those who say "Athens is winning because they hired a couple of great coaches and now also have great athletes," and those who say "Athens is winning because they are now in the TVC." Their lack of tournament success in basketball, and lack of playoff success in football leads me to believe the latter. And part of the reason being in the TVC helped them be successful is they are the biggest school in the league. No way around that IMHO.

I'm gonna let you in on a little secret here ... Athens is playing the exact same schedule as it did 20 years ago - and for the last 10 ... It only switched the emphasis on each game ... When in the SEOAL we always played Alex twice, Nelsonville-York twice, Meigs twice and we even played Trimble in those Saturday night games ... Then we played Warren, Jackson, Logan, Gallia and Marietta ... Guess what, we do the same thing now except the non-league games are now league games and vice-versa.

How that affects how well or not well you do in the tourney is beyond me ... Athens hasn't faired been sucessfull in the tournament because were getting beat by better teams, that's all.

When we were in the SEOAL - Vinton County (TVC) knocked us out of the Logan sectional ... Now were in the TVC and Warren (SEOAL) has knocked us out.

Sorry bulldog, I just defended you on another thread, but, cant here. Athens should not even be in the TVC. Location wise it is perfect. But they are the biggest school in the league. By most schools alot bigger. They have won more titles in the last 5 years in the TVC than they did in their last 10 in the SEOAL. Right back to the point in the other thread, SIZE DOES MATTER!

We won it once ssbball ... two years ago and we went 19-1 ... We beat all the SEOAL teams on our schedule as well ... 1 time in 4 years is hardly dominating.

And were not that much bigger either ... Vinton and Athens both are Division II.

You want to see disparity in numbers - check the OHSAA web site ... You will see their is a bigger difference in the SEOAL than what you see in the Ohio Division ... Big difference between Logan and Portsmouth, much bigger than the big/small comparison in the TVC-Ohio (Athens & Nelsonville-York.)

But, I am talking about overall titles. You all have won a bunch. Baseball, volleyball, softball, track, CC & football.

if southern can win out n the league n belpre can get knocked off twice then i do believe we will be league champs....but there is also other ways that we can still win it...yes were a game and a half behind so its not a long way out of reach....we knock off fed n we got a good shot cuz belpre still has south gallia- which are down late in the season but still have the capability of winning, wahama and waterford - who are both on the rise here lately....so we never kno til the last game of the regular season is played.....GO TORNADOES...streak for the TVC

As for southern we have a district title (2009) already so yes a tvc title would be better but we would also like a regional title to add to the list....

Southern cant win out. Sad to say but my boy is about to give junior a lesson in late season coaching. The lancers are prepped for a deep run in the tourney. Southern will bow out in yet another year with no league title in their so called marquis sport. I guarantee if the win out they will hang a banner and crow from the top of the water tower in racine. the boys at the butcher shop will pony up for more of those illegal t shirts they used to give away back in the SVAC days. Too bad it aint gonna happen anytime soon.

I think your boy might let your grandson win this one.
