Re: IRONTON/WHEELERSBURG. WEEK 1.
WHAT? Wheelersburg played bad in a scrimmage!! OH CRAP they are toast!! Cause we all know in a scrimmage is really where you put your team out there to show their true skills! I guess they better go back to the basics and rethink it all.
Look I know that Ironton is gonna be a powerhouse again this year and will win between 8-10 games this year, and that they may just come in to ed miller and put a hurtin' on the burg, but then again they may not. You CAN'T judge a team by the way the scrimmaged!! I really thought you guys who have been watching HS FB your whole lives could have figured that one out by now! Guess not!

This is the worst I have seen The Burg since the 1st scrimmage last year. I would be worried more had they looked good.

Re: IRONTON/WHEELERSBURG. WEEK 1.
Burg has traditionally not been a good scrimmaging team, because they focus more on areas that need to be worked on rather than can they win or lose the game. Over the years, to many people have put alot into what they see in a scrimmage game and now with sites such as this, they believe everything they read.
Will Ironton dominate the game, possibly, but if I remember correctly, just about the same Ironton people was on here last year talking the same smack and it came back to bite them in the butt. I say let the kids decide the game on the field and then AFTER the game is over, then come and talk all the smack you want. Just like last year, alot of ironton posters are taking to heart what some people are saying that is not even from the Burg. Trust me, a true Burg fan knows that this game will be a dogfight right to the very end and if Ironton does put a whoopiin' on the Burg, you can bet that there will be plenty of Burg posters on here congratulating them and wishing them luck the rest of the season. One game in a ten game season doesn't make or break you. Sure, 10-0 is nice, but I'd venture to guess there are alot of teams out ther that would love to go 9-1 just as well. The only record that matters is the one after the last game in the playoffs, after the state championship game. That is the big prize every team in the state is gunning for.
My take on the game is good luck to the Pirates and let's hope for an injury free game for both teams.

Good point about scrimmages. They are just that a practice, and a time to work on some things.

Back in the 70's, scrimmages meant much more to Wheelersburg than they do now.

I agree, scrimmages is just a glorified practice, a good time to try out different things, and different people. I look for this to be a good game as usual.

I would almost be willing to bet (but I am not a betting woman) if they couldn't get past Piketon's line they sure ain't getting past Ironton's.
I also hate to tell you Burg fans Murphy ain't all you got to worry about. Ya'll can focus on Murphy if ya want to but the others will get ya while you are watching him. Noone has even mentioned White, Cramblitt, Webb, Monnig, and Lamb
Go ahead and underestimate the Tigers, see what happens to ya. I can't wait for this game.
didnt you all have a kid named Wetzel? or something like that?
Keith Wetzel is a JR 5'8 195 lb Fullback and a good one at that, I look for him to run the ball a little more this year than he did last season.
smaller than that lol
Re: IRONTON/WHEELERSBURG. WEEK 1.
I agree scrimmages are for getting better not winning. It is also important to test kids at different positions on the field in full contact against another team.

This will be a very good game with turnovers being the deciding factor.

Re: IRONTON/WHEELERSBURG. WEEK 1.
I look for this game to be a mirror of the game at the Burg a few years ago. It was 0-0 at the half. Ironton scored 3 TD's in the second half to take a 21-0 win. Not saying Itown will win, just think it will close just like that game was with the win going either way.
This game will be just as good as the games in the past.

Re: IRONTON/WHEELERSBURG. WEEK 1.
I was watching TV and WSAZ sports did a feature on Ironton football this year with Bob Lutz talking a little bit about this season and players. I think Bob is back this year! He talked about how last year was a learning curve for all of them but now the system is back in place. His players looked huge and hungry. I think they remember the game from last year at their place of all places and this year it could be ugly just because Burg has no "go-to" players this year.

OK... Ain't gonna convince me they don't have any playmakers on this team.
I seem to remember that Schankwiler as a junior had his best game against the Tigers last season. Not sure but I think he was well over 100 yards rushing but can't recall his totals. As far as playmakers go. Schank, Craigmiles, White, Lang, Hopper, Walker are this years go to guys.

PLANT YOUR BEANS EARLY.Derf_W wrote:If W'burg plays this season like they did last night against Piketon they're in for a long season, as this is the worst I've ever seen them. In my scouting report, I counted 6 turnovers and two INTs went for a TDs. So I had it Piketon 14-0. Really, I thought Piketon did their best when they went straight at them as their D-line is small, but quick. They did get a few sacks but did also get burnt on a screen. W'burg also seems a little blitz happy and Piketon did get some big runs with the traps and counters. Ironton's bread and butter is smash mouth football and 'burg couldn't handle Piketon's brand of it, so in two weeks, it's gonna be a long night for the Pirates!
