Wild Thangs report from NSA Nationals in Columbus

Post by Proud Wild Thang »

Great Day! Wild Thangs came out strong in their first pool play game with a 5-2 win over the Florida Lady Gators '95. :122245

Wild Thangs took pool play game #2 with a 7-2 win over the Virginia Crushers. They absolutely crushed the ball by ringing up all 7 runs in the fourth inning alone!

WAY TO GO LADIES!

Our next challenge comes on Wednesday morning with our first tourney game against the Indy Blast out of Indianapolis.

Keep it up ladies! :aaaaa41

To our other Scioto County girls representing Ohio up here as well, Go Get 'EM. Let's show all these other states what these Buckeye girls can do!

Hope to have some good news later today!

Once again reporting some GREAT NEWS! Wild Thangs win 5-4 over the very respectable Ohio Classics!

Kayla Koch pitched an outstanding game! Everyone played their butts off! Defense was spot on!

This now puts us as one of 16 teams (out of 64) without a loss.

We play the LT Redbirds (out of St. Louis???) in the morning.

Hope the girls continue playing stellar ball! :aaaaa59

What a week ! --The Wild Thangs grind out a 4-3 win yesterday morning over the LT Redbirds to move to the round of only 8 winners left in the winners bracket. What a run these girls got on ! Spotted them a 3-0 lead in the 1st , then Kayla Koch shut them down the rest of the way. Offensive got enough going to get ahead. Morgan Geno had a great offensive game. Tara Journey had several big hits and played a fine SS.

I think that win assured a top ten finish in the NSA WS !!!!! (no worse than 12th ) What an accomplishment .

We moved on to face the Indy Diamond Chix, they have a pitcher called Big Burt or Big B or Big something. Having just faced a slow pitch junk baller for the LT Redbirds we had a tough time with this flamethower. She beat us 8-0. Had at least 10 k's . She was outstanding.

That dropped us to the losers bracket against last years 10u ASA national champ the Ind. Thunder . Their pitcher was featured on the cover on "Sports Illustrated for Kids" . Great to get to compete against such high competetion. our kids were pretty tired, they got us 8-4 to complete our year. It was a great way to end our year with a high finsh at the WS.

Got to give some props to Taylor Dempsey and Maegan Lynn from the Classics game on wed pm. Super, well played game, back and forth the whole way. They got ahead a run in the top of the 7th , but Maegan blasted a deep double to center to lead off the bottom of the 7th, she was sacrificed to 3rd, scored on an hit to 1st, then Taylor Dempsey knocked home Tara Journey for the winning run with a single to center.

So we ended 5-2 for the week. The Florida gator team we beat in pool play beat Ohio's # 1 ranked team (ohio ice) 1-0 and another top 5 ohio team the Lasers Gold 11-10 and were still playing today in the losers bracket. So we beat some good teams.

Huge thanks to the coaches Scoob, John Koch and Brian Richard for all the hours and energy you spent with this years team. Being with the thangs is like family, we might moan, groan and argue just like regular families but thats the way I'll remember the Thangs --family MD

Well, the official report is that the Wild Thangs tied for 9th in the NSA Class A World Series! We are all proud of our girls! This is what we've waited to see out of our girls all season! What a time to bring it on!

The Wild Thangs have had a great run for the past three years. We've had a great bunch of kids and parents devote their time and energy in creating a top level travel team. It takes a special kind of devotion to play top level travel ball. For us to do what we have done in this short amount of time, with a team of local girls, is something to be proud of.

To all of our supporters, fans, families, and friends, we want to thank you for everything you've done to get us where we needed to be!

Coach Scoob

You are absolutely right, MD. Tim Harr got many girls heading in the right direction 4 years ago, and it has grown from there!

Another person that deserves a shout out is Jeff Cunningham! He has not only been a great coach but has given moral support this season from behind the scenes.

By the way, someone inquired as to how many teams were in our age group. Total of 64 in the 12U! Teams came from everywhere, Delaware, Florida, Illinoise, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, just to name a few.

So finishing tied for 9th out of 64 is pretty awesome!

Again, thanks to everyone involved!
