Re: Ironton Logan put up your dukes and enter here!
Both teams have a lot of other business to take care of before this game. I'll wait til then.
Re: Ironton Logan put up your dukes and enter here!
Logan 33 Ironton 20....not a fan of either team, but I think Ironton hangs with Logan the 1st half with Logan pulling away in the late 3rd quarter.
Re: Ironton Logan put up your dukes and enter here!
Amyx and Lutz are comparable in their coaching styles and abilities so 2 tds is not really a fair assessment. Lutz has tennure on him but Amyx is a very good coach. Both have solid staffs. Usually our games at Logan have been fairly officiated with only one questionable exception which was a judgement call so the homecooking may not be worth 2 tds either. JMHO
d&c, i am with you buddy, both have some tough tests prior to this meeting. 2 good teams, that is for sure. Good to see Ironton coming back around.

JC,
You seem like a reasonable guy. I think next year would be the year(assuming this season goes as Ironton posters believe it will) to say it is good to see Ironton back. So far on the field they are not back. They are potential.I am always confused by teams that are so good in the forums and then not so good on the field. I am sure you are aware Championships are won on the field. i do hope ironton gets better. Two of the constants in my post if you care to review them would be for the league to get stronger and l do not deny the proud history of Ironton.
The other constant would be that Logan has won 4 championships in a row and are headed for number 5.

Maybe the Refs will see the Holding this year and call them. And I did say " CALLS " plural; cause there was more than one that was not called. Get the ball, Get the ball, GET...THE...BALL !!!Mouth's Better Half wrote:Coach Lutz is worth 2 touchdowns himself, Logan's Coach well, it is at their field-- I guess the "homecooking" will cancel the 2 touchdowns.

This post disappoints. I figured a team with a proud history like Ironton would be above making excuses.
I've said this a million times:
Only losers whine about officiating. Officials can't LOSE you a game unless they also WIN you games. How many times have you heard the winning team say, "Man, I'm glad the refs WON us that game?"
Officiating is a losers excuse. Only losers use it.
The final score was 53-14. I'm afraid it took more than holding penalties to decide that game. Were the officials at Portsmouth and Zanesville also in Logan's back pocket?
Finally, home teams don't even choose the officials for home league games. They are assigned by the league, not the home school as is usually done (and is done for non-league games).
Ironton should be above those excuses. Their history is too proud to stoop to that level.

During a game there are many holds that BOTH teams get away with.

The Tigers still lead the series 16-6 , so they have 10 to give. Strap em up and lets play the game.
Re: Ironton Logan put up your dukes and enter here!
2old,
I can live with that statement. I even said in my posts that Ironton is "coming back around" and I would have to agree that potential is nothing until proven on the field. I believe they are coming back to form, next year may be better for them and even years after that. however they could be a really good team this year. In the nineties and early 2000's they had some really good teams and were consistantly better than any other team GAHS played all season, at least until the play-offs. I don't want to predict this game yet b/c injuries can really change the outcome and I will wait until later to do that but you are right sir in that if I made a prediction today it would be for a physical game and of course in Logan's favor. Logan sits atop the hilll right now and everyone else is trying to play catch-up but those Tigers are coming back.
Must have been alot of uncalled holds in that whipping. I guess that is what happened to my Devils last year too. I knew there was a simple solution.

JC,
Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I guess the main difference is attitude. Logan has the attitude that Ironton is just another game on the schedule. IMO for many years Gallia has actually has had an unhealthy awe of the Ironton program. This has prevented Gallia players and staff to operate at peak abilities in games vs. Ironton. The fact that Gallia managed to pull defeat from the jaws of victory just added to the feeling.
As i have said many times, Ironton at one time certainly deserved all the "awe" that Gallia in particular still has for the Tigers. However based on recent results the Tigers have actually come back to earth and really need to improve this year just to be a "competitive" team in the SEOAL.
We will see how this year plays out.

--- Logan has the attitude that Ironton is just another game on the schedule --- Are you kidding?? Nobody in this league deserves awe but don't tell me Logan players think Ironton is just another game on the schedule.

First of all, it's hard to get worked up about a game when none of the players have sweated a drop in 2-a-days yet. Second, Logan's focus had better be on Lancaster. Last I checked, it's the first game on the schedule. And finally, Logan coaches set goals at the beginning of the year. In order, they are:
2008 SEOAL Champs
10-0
Regional Champs
State Champs
Don't see "Beat Ironton" anywhere on there.

From 1972 - 1990 Ironton was 13-1 against Logan. Outscored Logan 400-83 and had 7 shut outs in those 14 games. I would be in "awe" if those kind of numbers were put up on my team.

One of Ironton's goals is to be 15-0, cause at 10-0 you can't be State Champs.

C'mon folks. I'm a newcomer to this rivalry and what happened in the past means NOTHING to me. You really need to live in the present and stop taking yourselves so seriously.

And since this years seniors were BORN in 1991, let's look at their lifetime:
Logan is 2-0 against Ironton and has outscored them 60-14 and shut them out 50% of the times the teams have met.
So do you think Ironton's kids are in "awe" of Logan? My guess is that both teams respect each other and know they have to beat the other to achieve their goals.

Michigan leads the overall series with Ohio State and dominated the Buckeyes in the 90s. Think the present day Buckeyes are in awe of Michigan?
