Cell Phones & GPS

Post by TheToe »

I have reciently been required by my employer to carry a "company" cell phone. I have also discovered that my supervisor has an "app" on his smart phone that allows one to know the whereabouts of another through GPS technology.

I have heard about this technology and where a man in Penn. used it to confirm his wife faithfulness.

Now I am wondering if maybe "Big Brother" is watching me too. Maybe I'm just being a little paranoid but is there a way to check to see if this app is on my phone? Can it be installed without ones knowledge or consent?

Based off the info you provided, I'd say there is a greater likelihood your movements are being monitored than not.

If it is a company phone, you probably are being monitored. Not much you can do about it. More and more companies are doing it everyday. It is no different than having a GPS tracking device in a company vehicle. All in which are perfectly legal.

Keeping tabs on a piece of equipment is one thing.....people are a different matter altogether.

I can understand a company wanting to keep tabs on their property, like a truck or something, but when they invite you to give up your personal phone (saving you a little money) and use theirs, well, I begin to wonder.

So, can a person discover if their phone is in fact being used to monitor their location"

If it is a company phone, there would be no way of an individual finding out. Only the company (or the ones that installed the application) are permitted to access that part of the phone.

Is this some type of local government job or something along the lines of some type of delivery job where you need to handle money or something? If so, then its not uncommon for a company to want to keep track of their employees if they drive their personal vehicles, in case something happens to them. Heck, even some of the Dominos Pizza shops issue their employees phones in some areas.

Whoever wants to (like big brother) can learn so much about our lives. They can monitor our phones (I know that the US Govt keeps a recording of EVER radio/phone etc etc that is made in the United States, every single one and have for years). They can find out a lot about you from where you go online and if you think about it, from the TV shows you watch if you have Satellite and I'd guess cable too?

Depending on the type of phone you can probably turn the GPS off. I'm not 100% sure that this would prevent the company from tracking you but it surely couldn't hurt to try. With any Android or Blackberry OS you should be able to disable the GPS. Give it a shot. You'll know if the company is tracking you if they question you or check to make sure you phone is working properly
