Re: WK 1 Lancaster @ Logan
Updates according to The Logan Daily:
Ticket gates will open at 5:00 PM. Kickoff is at 7:30. State Route 328 will be open to two lanes by ODOT personnel during the busiest time of the evening. 400 parking spaces have been reserved for season ticket holders with about 200 more spots available in that lot next to stadium gates; another 200 spots are in front of the school and room for about 300 cars are available in a private field across from the school. Shuttle buses from the overflow lot at Gabriel's manufacturing facility (Old Goodyear plant) on East Front Street will start at 5:00 and those needing to leave early will find the return buses running at the start of the fourth quarter. There will be numerous pre-game activities including a sky-diving team parachuting in the game ball for the opening kick-off. Brighten Your Future will sponsor a pre-game tailgate dinner at the new school and Logan Chieftain Athletic Boosters will be selling tickets to a $30,000 raffle to be held in January 2009. Lancaster High officials will present a plaque to Logan commemorating the historic first game at THE CHIEF at halftime. All Logan High School grounds and facilities are No Smoking. Also, plan to arrive early as they are estimating 6,000 to 7,000 fans will attend the game. And bring your patience with you.

You did a good job of getting yourself and your teammates focused for Ironton last year (despite all the final game at Bill Sauer Field hoopla), hopefully this years leaders can follow the example of you and your teammates.
Go Chiefs!

Re: WK 1 Lancaster @ Logan
What is the upside to this series for Logan? Sooner or later you have to be competitive or call it a day. I'm rooting for Logan obviously but what do we get out of this? If we lose to them, do we get any extra points for effort? There are just too many kids in the Lancaster school system for Logan.
Re: WK 1 Lancaster @ Logan
Yes it is a big payday, if they could schedule the likes of Groveport, Canal Winchester or thy to bring bck New Lex we still could get a good payday!
Re: WK 1 Lancaster @ Logan
well in order to better your program it does help to take your licks every once in a while........and as for lancaster having too many kids logan always dismisses that excuse when smaller seoal schools say it so it shouldnt come into play when your on the other side of the coin

OK, I was waiting for a reply like that. Not everyone in Logan makes that argument. Case in point-Athens. I understand perfectly why they would want to leave the SEOAL. They kept getting their brains beat in by the teams there and no one wants to be the Duke football of any league. Your own fans will lose interest after a while. Who would argue that Athens is not in a better "fit" now. I don't agree with THE WAY Athens left but that's another thread. What I am saying is I'm for good COMPETITIVE football. I hope Logan racks up a big win tomorrow night and I'll be screaming my lungs out come tomorrow. But looking at Locos rundown of the series....HUH?

Re: WK 1 Lancaster @ Logan
D&C -
You have to remember a couple of things when looking at the Logan/Lancaster series.
First, the sample size is relatively small. For the 30s, 40, and 50s, Logan was still only LOGAN High School, and did not include a lot of the county schools. This INCREASED the size differential between the two schools immensely during that time period.
Second, although Logan is in a great run of kids, Lancaster is arguably having their best 10 year run in history as well. And when Lancaster is very good, it WILL be nearly impossible for us to beat them, that's where the numbers come into play, no doubt. However, Lancaster will come back down to Earth, and Logan will too, but whenever Lancaster isn't great, Logan is going to have opportunities to win in this series.
Logan and Lancaster would have been a pretty good series in the late '70s, late '80s, and Logan would have had the upper hand when I was in high school (1998-2001) for instance.
Personally, I think this game has done a lot of good for our program. I still believe you learn a lot more about your team from a loss than you do a win. I think the Lancaster game has provided some insight to our coaching staff all three seasons in regards to scheme and personnel that have made us better for the rest of the season. After playing Lancaster, the rest of the schedule gets much easier (outside of the years we played Gahanna as well).
And, in my opinion, we've been pretty competitive 3 of the 4 years. 2006 was arguably the best team in Lancaster history, and blew the Chiefs out. Last season was pretty ugly, but had our offensive line not been so inexperienced that would have been a fairly competitive two-score game instead of the 4 score blowout it ended up.

With that said, it's always better to win. And I think there are other games in which Logan can be extremely challenged, but win more the 2-3 times a decade.
Groveport, a long dormant program, is coming back strong and I think there is potential if the Cruisers keep improving. The same is true for Grove City (who Lancaster has also beaten the last 4 seasons).

Re: WK 1 Lancaster @ Logan
All points well made. However, if you post this series schedule ten years from now and the results are still the same, would you not at least give my view the benefit of a doubt? I'd personally rather scrimmage Lancaster; you can still learn a lot and not start out the season with a goose egg (not that that has happened yet). I picked Logan to win this game; almost everyone else has them going 9-1. Yes, we can be competitive, but a moral victory is still 0-1.

I'm not against considering changing the week one game, especially if the Gales stay as strong as they have been under Carpenter (which seems likely). As long as the Gales are winning their division of the OCC every year, they are going to be a lot for us to handle.
I've always said we would have a hard time winning OCC Championships. The best 7-8 teams in the OCC are very strong year in and year out. But its the other 20 teams we can compete with, and I'd rather play those teams. Time will tell if Lancaster stays on top of the mountain.

Yea, I know;it's just a little frustrating. I hope we put one on 'em tomorrow. Then we won't have to debate this. What do you think our home-field advantage is worth this year? Our boys are going to be sky-high.
