SEOAL titles are nice, but if I was looking at something I would like to have more, it would be a Div. II district/regional championship, and beating Chillicothe doing it! Chilly is Warren's measuring block when it comes to basketball, not Portsmouth! Just sayin'!!

Chillicothe should be everyones measuring sticks,,they are the only ones that has won the big game in the last few years,,Portsmouth ,I think, won it last in 79?,Chilly last year, not sure when Warren last won a state title, but all 3 teams are capable of makeing a run this year.

Like you said,I wouldnt be to worried about Portsmouth

Trojandave; you want to play BENCH VS. BENCH. Even that could get interesting. We have talked before the Trojans needed to fine more scoring to go with Evans and McKinley. Sounds like you found some!

Bottom line: this will not be a game for the WEAK of HEART. Who ever steps on the floor better have their A game with them.

This will be HIGH POWERED HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL at its best!!!!

GO TEAM WARREN WARRIORS!!!!!!!!

Im sure BOTH teams are looking at bigger things,,,but,I am sure BOTH teams are also thinking a league Title along the way would be a great Acomplisment also.....

Cant not wait for this game......

Sparrow: In response to your question, Portsmouth won state titles in 1931, 1961, 1978, and 1988........with state runnerup finishes in 1934, 1980, and 1990. PHS is tied for 4th all-time in Ohio for most state championships.........out of 800 high schools.

Portsmouth's state titles in 1931 and 1961 were in Class AA.......back then Ohio had only two classes and Class AA was the big school class...........PHS remains to this day the only SE District school to have won a BIG school state title in any team sport.

The Trojans have made 14 state appearances (the state tournament was a Sweet 16 format until after the 1943 season), 10 actual Final 4 appearances........1927, 1929, 1931, 1934, 1961, 1978, 1980, 1988, 1990, and 2011. Only Canton McKinley has made more state appearances than Portsmouth.

Chillicothe has a fine basketball tradition, but the Cavaliers have made only 1 Final 4 appearance in their history........that being in 2008 when they won the D2 state title.

Portsmouth has won 35 district championships, by far the most in the SE District........7 of those have come after our last state title..........in 1989, 1990, 1991, 1994, 1999, 2001, and 2011.

The Trojans won the regional championship just last year..........I would say that winning a regional title is winning a big game.

The goal at Portsmouth is always to win a state championship.........an SEOAL title would be nice simply because it's the league we're in, we're proud to be in the league, and we were on the bottom looking up the first few years of SEOAL competition.......competing for a league title gives our kids a chance for a tangible goal during the season.........we've come a long way since then.

We were an independent for 11 years before we joined the SEOAL, and I'm glad that we are no longer without a league.

I agree with you, Sparrow, that Warren, Chillicothe, and Portsmouth are capable of making it to the regionals and perhaps to the Final 4.

In Division III, I'm sure Warren and Chillicothe would have more banners in their rafters! Warren isn't worried about Portsmouth's Div. III accomplishments!
