Final: @ Portsmouth 69 Warren 66
Re: Final: @ Portsmouth 69 Warren 66
Portsmouth is a great team to play against. I enjoy getting to watch both of these teams play. We just needed a couple of the baskets to find a way to fall for us that didnt. The boys in blue came to play and play they did. Warren had just as many players in double figures as did Portsmouth. When three points seperates the winning team from the losing team you dont need to look for faults. You need to get behind your team. You might even want to put your blame pointing finger away. It has no place near the key board. I say great job!! Josh, Jeremy, Jace , Tyler, Evan, Austin, Reece, Evan, Danny , Adam Thank You You are a pleasure to watch. Coach Maddox and crew I'm behind you all TOGETHER WE CAN TOGETHER WE WILL!!!

You got that absolutely right! No one deserves blame in this at all. It was a hard fought game, and Warren is a valiant opponent!

I don't think anyone that is a Warrior faithful is looking for any blame. On any given night Portsmouth, Chilli and, or Warren could come out on top or not. Thats how tight these three teams are. Sounded on the radio like Warrren may have had a few turnovers, and as I have said before that is the one thing that keeps plaguing them. Thats why I would like to see them have a couple add on games with tougher opponents to work out that last kink to ready for them as much as possible for tourney time. In no way am I putting this team or the coaching staff down. I have much respect for all of them. Win. lose or draw if you're a true Warrior you bleed blue no matter what.jgordon0315 wrote:32, 16, 6 wrote:Portsmouth is a great team to play against. After going to this classic game tonight, I was happy I chose today for some daytime activities in Portsmouth before the game.
Portsmouth won the JV game 50-44 as Warren missed out on converting a lot of good opportunities to score, notably in the 3rd qtr.
While watching the game I listened to the game on 1260 and they did a good job on the broadcast. These are stats I heard there for the first and 2nd half:
W .............. P
FG made........ 10+15=25 -- 9+16=25
FG attempts... 19+31=50 -- 25+21=46
treys made...... 5+8=13 ---- 5+3=8
trey attempts... 8+9=17 --- 13+4=17
FT made.......... 2+1=3 ---- 3+8=11
FT attempts..... 6+1=6 ---- 4+12=16
Rebounds....... 15+10=25 -- 13+6=19
Turnovers....... 9+?=?? ---- 4+7=11
Fouls by qtr .. 5+2+3+9=19 - 2+3+2+2=9
The teams combined for an unfathomable 11 for 13 treys in the 2nd half! To me the key to the game was the 7 for 22 that Warren was on deuce FG attempts in the 2nd half. I think after they were fortunate to have McKinley pick up his third foul early in the 3rd qtr, the had too many empty possessions trying to draw fouls on him going to the basket, plus a critical change in momentum happened when Warren tried to shoot over Dion on a quick shot attempt on a 15' baseline fade away jumper. At the time the teams had been trading baskets for the lead in the 3rd qtr and Warren trailed 31-32. That miss ignited Portsmouth to a 39-31 lead to break open a good working margin that they never relinquished. About half way through the 4th qtr, Portsmouth still led 53-43. In spite of Portsmouth handling the Warren press very well, Warren closed it to 59-57 thanks to all the treys(7 in the 4th qtr by 4 different players)and Portsmouth missing both front ends of the one and bonus attempts on FT. #23 for Portsmouth, Jayllen Carter, was key as he came into the game in the 3rd qtr when Collins hurt his ankle and couldn't take his 2nd FT. Carter made the FT and two of the three treys Portsmouth made in the 2nd half, and was 2 for 2 on FTs in the 4th qtr as they made 6/8 as a team to hold on for the victory, the only misses being the two front ends.

Re: Final: @ Portsmouth 69 Warren 66
With so much talk about the officials letting the first meeting at Warren playing like a prize fight how did the officiating compare in last nights game?
Re: Final: @ Portsmouth 69 Warren 66
I thought it was very good. They didn't call fouls when Warren was going at McKinley trying to get the 4th foul when the Warren players were jumping into him. They may have missed his 5th foul very late when Ward drove in and McKinley came and displaced him some, but I thought very fair over-all. JV a little bit different.athens78 wrote:With so much talk about the officials letting the first meeting at Warren playing like a prize fight how did the officiating compare in last nights game?

Re: Final: @ Portsmouth 69 Warren 66
I thought the officiating was pretty good. not a factor in the outcome at all. Still amazed at the % Warren shot from three , MOST of these were under some pressure or off the dribble, or looooong attempts. fantastic shooting from portsmouth also. hope both teams go deep in the playoffs MD
Re: Final: @ Portsmouth 69 Warren 66
Stats from the Marietta Times which they got from Cody Leist:
Warren 18 16 11 28 - 66
Portsmouth 16 10 15 28 - 69
WARREN (11-2, 4-2 SEOAL)
Tyler Ward 4-11 (0-0) 12, Jeremy Hastie 7-10 (0-0) 20, Josh Windland 6-8 (0-2) 13, Evan French 7-13 (1-1) 17, Austin Henthorn 0-1 (1-2) 1, Reece Patton 1-5 (1-3) 3, Totals 25-50 3-6 66.
PORTSMOUTH (14-2, 6-1 SEOAL)
Mason Jordan 1-3 (0-2) 2, Duke Edwards 2-4 (2-6) 6, Zaide Whitley 4-9 (1-2) 12, Jallen Carter 3-3 (3-3) 11, Len Collins 1-3 (1-3) 4, Wayne Evans 7-15 (6-8) 20, Dion McKinley 7-12 (0-1) 14, Totals 25-46 13-19 69.
Team Totals:
Shooting: W: 25-50 (50 percent), P: 25-46 (54 percent) Three Point Shooting: W: 13-23 (57 percent) (Hastie 6, Ward 4, French 2, Windland) P:8-17 (47 percent) (Whitley 3, Carter 2, Evans 2, Collins). Rebounds: W: 23 (Knost 6), P: 29 (McKinley 12). Assists: W: 16 (Ward 6), P: 16 (Evans 8 ), Turnovers: W: 12, P: 8. Team Fouls: W: 17 P: 11.
This says that the 3 point shooting wasn't quite as unfathomable as the radio guys stats indicated to me. Also, the team fouls by qtr I show above were from my records rather than the radio guys. I'm pretty confident in my records on those fouls.

What a great game last night it takes a lot out of you even as a fan....wish the Warriors could have pulled out the win, but you have to credit the Trojans, they played very well and deserved to win....with all the competitive spirit going on, didn't want to pass over the fine sportmanship displayed....to see Coach Collins and his assistant, and ALL his players come to the Warren bench after the game to sincerely congratulate Hastie on his game and to wish him speedy recovery was FIRST CLASS!! By the way, xrays are negative and Hastie hopefully won't miss more than a couple of games....also don't know if anyone caught Windland and Dion getting tangled up in the paint in the second half, Dion taking a tumble and Josh helping him to his feet, all while in the heat of battle! Both teams consist of great kids, coaches, and fans who want nothing more than to see their team have success....this game had a winner and loser but this will help both teams get better for the post season....what a joy to watch our kids do battle on the big stage and do well!!

Re: Final: @ Portsmouth 69 Warren 66
One thing I will say for the Warren boys, they never let up until the final buzzer sounds! It was a hard fought game for both teams and I was sorry to see our boys in blue not get the win. Curious thought, wondering why the coach doesn't utilize his bench alittle more? The talent runs deep for the Warriors. The younger guys would make positive contributions on the court and provide a breather for our fantastic starters. This is just a rhetorical question, and not intended as a criticism of the coaching staff. They do a great job! The coaches obviously have the inside view, know their players best and have their strategies....that's why my title is "benchwarmer" and they are the coaches! lol! Just voicing a curiousity. Looking forward to watching this team work their way to State this year!

Blackspooky; I got home after midnight, got up at 7:00 to go to work on my farm. Had a shot around with my other team and had a game tonight. Won, Beat Logan by 17!! So i am just getting on preps.
The game was as I expected, but lost. The Trojans won as good of high school basketball game as anybody would want to see. I said it would be a game of RUNS and DEFENSE. The Trojans made a 10-0 run and the the Warriors got it back to 3 and missed a couple of chances to tie, but came up empty.
I thought it was a great game win or not. Both teams left it on the floor and the Trojans won. What more can I say. Trojandave and biggdowgg know my feeling and know I respect any good basketball team and will tell it like it is good or bad.
The folks at Portsmouth were great to us after the game. Thank you!!!
I left my stats with coach Maddox, I am sure everybody has read the paper by now.

REMEMBER Austin Cunningham; sure you do, the skinny kid that played for the Warriors last year. Everybody said he was a hotdog and a showboat. Well he went off for 40 POINTS tonight for Ohio valley College in a win. Now thats getting it done at any college level.
My hat is off to Austin. Doing good in the classroom as well.

Im not sure any of us called him a hot dog or a show boat, but I can tell you that any of us that seen him play, remember him well....Congrats to Mr. Cunningham.
