Re: WK 1 Gallia Academy @ Athens
up date ATEHNS 9 gallia 3
EDIT: Wrong again! Athens never led in this game at any time. It was 17-6 GAHS at the half, so at least try to be as informed as others in your family when you post.

Gallia leads 17-6 at halftime...Athens didnt pick up a single first down in the 1st half .....to make things worse Cameron Tope was ejected from the game so the 2nd half could be even more of a struggle for the Athens offense. How do the rules work in football after an ejection, i know in basketball you're out the next 2 games??

Sorry Locos gave me bad info. If you can't trust Locos who can you trust?

Re: WK 1 Gallia Academy @ Athens
31-22 Gallia wins the season opener...
Athens came out with a very strong showing in the 2nd half minus their best offensive player Cameron Tope. Their defense was pretty decent throughout the night. Herron? i think was the name had 2 picks in the secondary so thats a plus. Gallia seems to be pretty solid this year...sounds like they have a good all-around QB who can run and throw.

Devils "escaped" with the win tonite.
We got smoked by the draw play a few times.
Must do a better job of tackling and catching the football.
I sure hope that the old wise one that said "A football team shows it's most improvement between weeks one and two" was right, because Point should be licking their chops.
Work hard Blue!

Some thoughts....."escaped" good word....Offense was sporadic, Allison should have ran more, was very productive when called upon, O-line needs to give Wanding and his backs the time and holes a little better. Defense couldn't stop the draw very well, did a decent job against run in general, wrap up a little better. Coverage teams need work.
As for the ejection, Tope(AHS) and Gravely(GAHS) were ejected for unsportsman like conduct. This took 15 min. to sort out, with Bok beside himself in disbelief, heard it was going to be appealed by GAHS. Athens on the other hand got hosed on ball spot that was clearly not a first down by GAHS and the sidejudge said it was without a measurement. BAD CAll, even the GAHS faithful were saying they got away with one. GAHS needs to improve if they are going to beat Point, and Athens will be OK in the TVC. Not the greatest of games for either team but a win is a win and a loss is a loss. Good Luck to both the rest of the season.

Did anyone notice that on the blocked punt for a TD Athens had 12 guys on the field.

GALIA ACADEMY BLUE DEVILS (1-0)-----31
ATHENS BULLDOGS (0-1) -------------------22
This was for sure a Week I showing by both teams as rust started to fall off I thought Athens looked totally different from the 1st Half to the 2nd Half. Galia gets props from me as I have now watched South Eastern Ohio Football for 10 years and I think that was the smallest Galia Academy Football team I have ever seen. They took advantage of turnovers, calls all night and escaped R. Basil R. Field with a 'W'.
The 2nd Quarter fiasco was huge for both teams. I couldn't believe that the officiating crew didn't 1st warn both coaches as this was the 1st game of the season and now both players have to sit in Week II. For Athens, that means Cameron Tope, a Senior who has busted his tail all summer long for 4 years now will miss next week. I feel that the officials cheated both players as standing from the sideline both Athens and Galia fans said I have seen much much worse and no ejection.
For Athens, Curtis Herron stepped up huge tonight recording 2 Int's and help share the load of running in the 2nd half with the absence of Tope. Shad McCollum played hard nose on not only offense/defense he came up huge catching a blocked punt for a Bulldog score. Zane Summers delievered some big hits tonight as well as catching some footballs from TE. Robbie Glass was putting hard hits from special team plays, defense and when running the ball.
Athens was down early, battled back to get the game to 24-22 in the 4th and just couldn't get that last stop to get the ball back take advantage.
WEEK II should be another good battle as the
FEDERAL HOCKING LANCERS will invade R. Basil R. Field to play
ATHENS....
''Dogs, keep your heads up! That was a valiant effort. Put it behind but don't forget it. Remember that feelin' it your stomachs aftet the game. Now get to the otherside and feel the joy. You can win, you showed us tonight you will not go down without a fight!!!"

Re: WK 1 Gallia Academy @ Athens
Congrats Blue! A lot of things really need to improve by next week - blocking and tackling. We will finally see how good our coaches are this year. Not a lot of talent as years past but several good players. Really impressed with Mason kicking the ball. O-line needs to step it up a notch. I thought Grimm and Golden ran hard last night. It might be a long season if they play like this when they get in league play. I hope everyone knows that if you get ejected from game you are also suspended the following week. Even thought both players did get out of control I don't think it called for ejections. I hope Bok appeals this.
