Re: hardest gym to play in the soc
Is this about the toughest place to win a game or the worst gym to play a game in?

A little of both, it was especially tough in 2001-2003 when those New Boston teams tried to score 100pts every night and quite a few times they did.
Also Green is a tough win,Burg just because it's the Burg.
Symmes Valley is a tough place to win if you can't get over the sickness of the bus ride down there.
Re: hardest gym to play in the soc
seeing how this is last yr for new boston gym that leaves east{ small , restraining line , bench has feet on court ) & symmes valley ( terrible bus ride ) :122247

SOCFAN1430 is right on the money! New Boston and East are very difficult gyms to play in. Symmes Valley and Green always seem to be difficult places to win.
SOC2 I would say Wheelersburg and Oak Hill are hard places for the visiting team to leave with a win!

no varsity games should be allowed at new boston or east these courts are just to small. best advantage green or oak hill. worst atmosphere west or notre dame.

Oak Hill is defiantly a tough place to play at b/c of the size of the gym. It gets very loud in there. Burg is also a tough place to win. Intimidating for the opponents b/c they have to face the cheer block during their foul shotsEaglesnest wrote:SOCFAN1430 is right on the money! New Boston and East are very difficult gyms to play in. I do kind of hate the fact that almost all the old gyms are gone. For the most part, although they are nice all these brand new gyms are the same to me. Eastern,Western,Burg,(Clay have not seen yet) as well as others that are fairly new Valley,Webster, etc even Waverly although it's not new still has the same feel as the newer gyms. I like the fact that 10 years ago in the SOC 1 especially every single gym you played in was unique and different.

What do you mean by worst at West and Notre Dame? Hard to play their or fans aren't into the game?ohiostbucks99 wrote:no varsity games should be allowed at new boston or east these courts are just to small. best advantage green or oak hill. worst atmosphere west or notre dame.
It seems like today with all the new schools being built, every gym is the same. Same style, same layout, architects need some imagination.

When I played I hated New Boston and ND.......... NB is too small and showers are always cold and ND always smelled of urine and Cigs lol
Re: hardest gym to play in the soc
Gallia Academy's 1958 gym was a hard place for opponents to play.
Nice facility out at Centenary now. Came close to filling it the first year we played River Valley there.
Attendance has been way down this year.

Showers at NB were cold and flooded the floor so you had to put all of your stuff on top of those small lockers

Re: hardest gym to play in the soc
I played for NB so I absolutely loved that gym, no better atmosphere to a game...and the gym has character, which is hard to come by nowadays...I HATED playing at East. The floor is smaller than NB's, my feet wouldn't even fit into the 3 point line in the corners. Plus on the rim closest to the gym entrance was a light that hung directly over the basket, that just absolutely blinded you.

I always preferred shooting in the older gyms. I don't really know how to explain why, I was always just more comfortable in them.

At least NB doesn't have the step on the court anymore!ohiostbucks99 wrote:no varsity games should be allowed at new boston or east these courts are just to small. best advantage green or oak hill. worst atmosphere west or notre dame.

I'm with you! I loved shooting in the old gyms! I hated the locker rooms and sometimes restraining lines, but I loved shooting in them. I think it was because most older and smaller gyms had the basket mounted to the wall and there wasn't much going on behind the basket. It seemed like the depth perception was better. And Jesco, you know I loved shooting the ball! lolJesco White wrote:I always preferred shooting in the older gyms. I don't really know how to explain why, I was always just more comfortable in them.

crab_apple,
Oh, I certainly remember!! lol I keep trying to get our Jr High kids to go to the offensive glass and collect their own misses the way you did!! I keep trying to explain to them that's the key to averaging a double-double and setting the school's rebounding records......not to mention a great way to cover up all those missed bunnies!! lol

As far as playing somewhere, I didn't like the old Oak Hill gym and like most everyone else we didn't have much success playing at Burg. Loved playing at Green, old Minford HS, and Waverly.

Miss the first one, grab the board, make the second one and hit the FT... 1 board, 3 points, and shoot at 50% clip all in one trip! lolJesco White wrote:crab_apple,
