I trully look for the Tigers to grow together as a Team. Will start IMO one senior in our exchange student. starters just a guess Roback Martin Kretzer (sp) exchange student and the point guard us up for grabs Remy, Kelly , Blanford . I trust Coach Robertson will do a good job this season. But make no bones about it Harrison Martin is the fuel to this machine, his growth from being a freshman to this season should be special.

Imo until we get some outside shooting we will struggle, teams are going to zone us pack it inside and make us beat them from the outside we saw it all last yr teams begged us to shoot the 3 and fundamentaly speaking we didnt and dont have any shooters! This needs to be addressed at the biddy and jr high level to start with, but it is not hard to teach a kid no matter how old they are how to hold a basketball and shoot properly proof of that is in the college level where kids 18-19 yrs. old are still being broken down and taught fundamental shooting! We have a couple of scorers but no shooters, even a team that wants to run the ball up and down the court has to go to a half court set sometimes and we probably dont have the guard play to run the ball so were gonna be setting up our offense often. FUNDAMENTALS INCLUDE SHOOTING

Crazymidget- I agree with you that we need shooters -but to say we have no pure shooters is wrong- Kretzer is as pure a shooter as we have had in our school for years. Remy and Tackett are fair shooters, big Victor shoots really well for a post player.

pac-man maybe you should know that you can be traced and your study hall teacher might be looking over your shoulder while you read this. Hope you can explain to your mama why you'll won't be in school for a couple days.

I have heard that Kretzer can shoot and kind of goes with my point he transfered in from P.Valley and you mentioned Victor and he came in from Europe, I will tell you this C.D. Hawhee would have been rolling over in his grave watching the slinging from last yr, shooting is technique then proper practice, fundamentals which (with Victor) is not surprising the European style of coaching are strong in fundamentals they learned it from us and stayed with it.
If you watched the Burg game last yr you could have noticed that every kid on the team shot the ball the same way this wasnt by accident and then you went down and watched their jr high teams and it was exactly the same, there is only one way to shoot a basketball and they have been taught this. And I would just like to see our talented kids (talent only goes so far) be as fundamently sound.

Blanford will make an excellent point guard for Waverly Tigers Basketball Team.

Rumor has it that the point guard for Waverly Tigers is between Blanford and Kelly. Maybe the senior will win out.

It's going to come down to who can handle the pressure and don't think for a moment teams are not going to press the Tigers.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this line-up: Martin, Lundin, Kretzer, Roback & Robertson with Martin bringing the ball up the court.

I have not seen them play but IMO as green as Kelly (freshman) is, I'd start him on JV for a couple quarters and have him available for a couple varsity quarters. Again, I have not seen them play so he may surprise me. I just hate to see a kid, especially a freshman, moved up and only play 2 quarters worth of time. I have seen it too many times at Waverly at it does nothing but hurt their development. If he is good enough and will see the minutes then go for it. I would tend to think Blanford being a senior would be able to handle the pressure a little better. We don't need points from the PG. We need someone who can handle the ball, run the offense, limit turnovers, and play hardnose defense.

whoever plays i think this team will be fun to watch, they will suprise people but i keep going back to how strong the league is! One bright spot to look at is Waverly does have young people on the team with only a couple of seniors on the team. They may be up and down all year but they will gain experience for years to come.

The junior varsity team should be competitive and the freshman will win their share also. Everyone needs to remember that with underclassmen playing up - these teams will be allowing a lot of people playing time which will be great for the future.

8th grade has a new player and should be good as well!

tigers2010onhuddle, Waverly had a scrimmage tonight and I didn't see you there. Just wondering if you are still picking the starting 5 without watching them play until the regular season starts? It looks like the coach has two that can handle the pressure, not turn the ball over and play hard nose defense.

soccerfix, Excuse me if I said something improper, just stating a starting 5 that looks pretty good.

Sorry I couldn't make the scrimmage tonight but I had a family meeting with our attorney to discuss matters concerning my recently deceased Uncle.

Care to elaborate on the two?

Waverly played well considereing it is was first time out. Robertson did not play (wisdom teeth removed earlier in the week) and neither did Phillip Tackett (injured ankle). Appears as if Waverly is going to be a "get after it" type of team. They are young but eager!!

The scrimmage went pretty good for the Tigers. I think you could tell they are pretty young. The big man(Victor) in the middle is a scrapper, Martin and Roback looked a lot like last year. Blanford will add to the defensive pressure and i see Robertson and Tackett getting plenty of minutes when they get back.

The three players that caught my eye were-#1 Jake Kretzer, he is going to be special when he gets in good shape- #2 Rheadon Remy, people need to remember this is his first year starting varsity too, and i thought he held his own and played good defense- #3 Devin Kelly was a very big surprise- for a freshman to handle the ball the way he did and overcome some early jitters had to surprise the coaches. I would say that the concern over the guards is still a concern -but the Kelly/Remy combo seemed to pass their first test if that is what the coaches are thinking about. Blanford could still be in that mix as could Kretzer.

Overall they seem to hustle and i think they are going to be much improved over last year. They are not going to set the world on fire -but i do think they could have a good year if everyone keeps getting better.

I didnt see anyone that hurt them defensively and i only seen a couple of bad shots taken and in Coach Robertson defense he seemed to address that with those that took them. If i had to grade the scrimmage for Waverly i would give them a B-.

I thought ZT looked pretty good and I think Eastern Brown is going to shock some people. Everyone that thinks Piketon is going to go unbeaten in the SVC should not overlook the Pioneers.

Just my humble opinion and trust me - i dont know much!

Go Tigers!!!
