Re: SOC 1 2009
Please dont try and convince people to think that Clay is a legit contender this year...It's not going to happen (Not even if Peter Pan sprinkles his flying fairy dust over the entire team)
It's not going to happen.

The league will be brutal this year....even if Clay is improved it will be difficult for them to win. Lets face it, they are in rebuilding mode following Ward's tenure.

Re: SOC 1 2009
by no means was i insisting that clay would be a contender. they will have a tough year but like ignert said hopefully they can improve over last years win total. if mccleese is there he will be able to help this team tremendously. i know every1 says one player doesnt make a big difference but i believe otherwise because i have seen it during the thoroughman years.

Re: SOC 1 2009
A single player can make the difference when they are Cam Thoroughman or Nick Aldridge. I have yet to see this Mcclease kid play but Im sure if he was as special as being mentioned here that I would have heard about him by now. my brother and I have been watching basketball games all around this county for 10+ years now. There hasnt been a player come through that we havn't seen play atleast once, and I have yet to hear the name McClease come up. He may be a great player, and hopefully he is, anybody would help that team from last year, 2 wins is nothing to brag about, espicially when I think that team could have won alot more games. I watched them play 3 times last year, twice against east, and once against green. Nothing special there.
Ignert, You keep hinting about bench players getting shunned because Coach Trainer felt loyalt toward his Seniors...whether or not that is true (I dont know, I wasnt at enough games.) I do know that at the 3 games I saw, several players seen the floor, in one East game I counted 11 players seeing the floor before the half actually.
Im not about to start throwing blows about Clay Panther basketball 2 months before the season starts. Hopefully they can improve, It shouldnt be too hard.

i didnt mean to sounds like mccleese is comparable to cam or nick. by no means is he that caliber of a player. but he will definetly be able to help the struggling panthers squad a lot. i think he is a junior that came from piketon. he couldnt play last year due to the new rules but should hopefully bring the team some hope and should be exciting to watch.

i know that he ran track and possibly the long/high jump. if he played basketball he would have been a freshman so probably for the j.v. squad.

Sothern Ohio-this is an odd list. New Boston ahead of Eastern? Symmes Valley last and East bringing up the rear?
I hope you are right about SV and East because that means the eagles will definately be fighting it out at the top!

Re: SOC 1 2009
Other than the big kid in the middle, Trainer had very little to work with last season. It wouldn't have mattered if Ward, Barrick, or Bobby Knight was atr the helm.
I have said it before and I'll say it again....Clay will struggle this season as well simply because of how strong the league will be this year.
I wish them luck(except against the eagles)

Re: SOC 1 2009
I never clamied that Clay had a final four worty team. As far as I am concerned it was a team that lacked in many areas. I will be the first to tell you they stunk, but I will also say that they should have won more than 2 games. There is no reason for a high school team, no matter how pathetic they are, to only win 2 games; there is too much that a coach can do to sneak out atleast 5. Now, that all being said, They didnt have much to work with last season, from what I watched of them, there was only the big boy who even had an ounce of basketball skill, and that was simply because the boy was 6 foot 6.(a boy that tall and as...much weight as he had...he should have thrown bodies around and won 5 games by himself just based on size.) I will say that they had some athletic players, and they could run the floor, they never did it well...attempted a few times, but they had no understanding whatsoever.
Either way, I will admit they didnt have much to work with last season, Im not so sure that they do this year either; but there are a few on here that say they have some quality players this year, that will just reamin to be seen. (Hopefully they do, no body likes to see a team with only 2 wins)
Im tired of fighting about basketball 2 months before it happens espically considering the topic. Lets just agree that its going to be a tough year regardless of what happens. Things might improve, things might go downhill for all we know, I do know that Trainers job security will be falling each and every loss they rack up, espicially with Coach Trapp back in the organization.
Good Luck Panthers!
Please prove me wrong

I am going with you are not even looking at who teams have coming back and who will be moving up off the JV teams....If you do that then it could end up looking like this at the end of the year
1 Western
2 East
3 Eastern
4 Green
5 Symmes Valley
6 Notre Dame
7 Clay
8 New Boston

Jumper,
I think you are sandbagging a bit. Your team will be young, but most of those young players started varsity last season and did very well.

Not only that they seem to play better than what people give them credit for when they start young with sophmores and a junior or two.
