looks like lafon needs to grab his team hard. after the incident with his guard a few games back they seem to lack the fire they started the season with.
just sayin...........

Yes, it looks like Ironton has lost its stride a bit. However, Portsmouth is definitely in full battle mode. Also saw where the Trojans are getting votes now in the AP poll this week.

The Tigers may be wounded right now, but I'm sure come tournament time, the growl will be back.

That Jackson sectional looks ridiculously stacked right now with Peake, Portsmouth, Valley and Ironton.

Portsmouth is playing very strong ball right now, as the players seem to have settled into their roles. I thought Coach Collins had a good plan for attacking Ironton on the offensive end, and his guys executed it quite well. The Trojans will be a tough out in the postseason. Congrats to them on the nice resume-building win. It should pay dividends come seeding Sunday.

Ironton didn't shoot it particularly well tonight, but really lost this game on the defensive end. After watching several games this year, it is apparent that the Tigers are pretty soft defensively. Seems they just want to outscore folks.

Wayne Evans had a great evening, as he made his way into the lane at will for short 6 footers or dish-offs. The team that gets the ball into the paint most often generally wins, and tonight was no exception. Although Evans played very right-handed, no perceivable effort was made by Ironton to force him back left. If Portsmouth set a ball screen for Evans, there was no hedge to stop Wayne from penetrating. Truth be told, the whole Portsmouth offense was very right-handed all night, requiring Ironton to effectively guard only about half of the court. It didn't matter.

Ironton cannot win a regional with this level of defensive effort. If the Tigers are content to overplay everything and go for steals, this may work against weak competition, but not against good teams. Could be that they need to concentrate more on fundamental guarding in the half court. Ironton has the athletes to excel defensively, but it has to become a priority. Defense can be a grind and is not glamorous, but that's what it is going to take to get to Columbus. Roger Zornes' teams at Ironton always excelled defensively. We'll see if Lafon and this talented group of players can raise their game to compete at a similar level come tourney time.

Down 15 with 5 minutes to go and had the opportunity to tie or take the lead,I think that answers the question. These kids won't quit and will be ready!
