good ball game on both parts. pointers have good offense and pirates have no defense. officiating was absurd. the blown dead td by shankwiler was a major "homer" call. calls like that should be challenged and the officials should be sanctioned by the state. no reason for major errors like this in high school sports. a missed hold or false start is understandable. a blown dead td changed the direction of the game. "game changer" officials need to be run out of the game and not simply tolerated.

send in the film and let the state "fine" the officiating units for "homer" calls. that would put an end to calls like that.

You can't say that he would have scored a TD. The defense gave up on the play as soon as they heard the whistle and the ball carrier kept on running. All I can say is that the ref must have thought that his knee hit the ground. I didn't have a good look at it from where I was sitting. So take your W and be happy with it, because, "if "the Pointers could have executed a little better than they did, you would have been taking a L home with you.

Final score was 28-20 with the Burg getting the win. Both teams played a great game, but IMO i think South Point played the toughest. Penalties and Turnovers cost South Point the game. Getting on the 2 yard line down by 8, SP ran the ball to Ryan Plants and scored, but it was called back after the holding penalty on Plants cause he grabbed the face mask is what i was told. Also the fumble was what really hurt SP. But great game by both teams and i would love to get to see a rematch of this.

Good luck to the Pointers on the rest of the season.

That's a great idea. Let's take officials who make "big" mistakes and "run them out of the game". I hope you're willing to become an official because there would be some serious official turnover after your idea is implemented.

Could be. We are happy with the W and we all can say the big IF word. Not knocking SP as they are definitely the best 0-2 team in southern ohio. If they shore up the D they are probably 2-0 and bound for the playoffs.

Burg is a very young team (alot of sophomores on the field) and knew going in that SP was going to be a tough game. Burg did not execute well defensively either and the call by the referee cost at least a 1st down (which I believe we ended up punting on that possession) and Burg also had a lost fumble while sustaining a long drive threatening to score.

Does any one have the game stats for SP game? I'm surprised on one has ask about them. I doubt if WB wants to see them.

Roger Gray on 99.3 was reporting final scores after the Valley/Rock Hill game.

It's amazing that the Pirates are 2-0 on the season, but they actually didn't win either game because both opponents beat themselves.

Maybe the Burg can just stay at home the remainder of the season and let their opponents beat themelves the rest of the year and get to 10-0 the easy way.

It was the last drive of the first half. Bad whistle--the referees were shocked to see the ball coming back to them from 25 yards down field. In the past, they have rerun the play for an inadvertant whistle. I am not sure why the referees did what they did after the play. They gave the Pirates a 3-yard gain and made it fourth and 1. Brandon was five yards further down the field when the whistle blew. Wheelersburg picked up the first down but time ran out with the Pirates at midfield a couple of plays later.

This is the play in question about when the whistle blows. They place the ball where #13 is laying.

Very even game stat wise and the end result shows that.

The only difference I saw was in rushing attempts. Wheelersburg averaged 10.25 yards per carry on 32 for 328 and SP averaged 6.3 on 48 for 305. Both of which are excellent rushing stats.

Someone had mentioned earlier that were disgusted with the Burgs defense and that they must have given up 25 1st downs. 12 is a long way from 25. Maybe they should pay more attention or learn to count correctly.

Here are my team stats:

Total yards: Wb 368 SP 387
Running Yards: Wb 359 (40), SP 343 (55)
Passing Yards: Wb 9, SP 44
Passing: Wb 1/4 (B Schankweiler 1/3, J Schankweiler 0/1), SP 2/5/1 (Seagraves 1/2/1, Kratzenberg 1/3)
First Downs: Wb 11, SP 21
Penalties: Wb 5/25, SP 2/15
Turnovers: Wb 1, SP 2
Time of Possession: Wb 20:51, SP 27:09 (Most of the difference was the third quarter when it was Wb 2:50 and SP 9:10 but both teams had 109 yards rushing for the quarter and Wb outscored SP 8-0.)

BG77--21 is a lot closer to 25 than 12.

Well burgrad, when you rush for long yards you normally dont get alot of first downs. My take on the game is the same as last year. if the oline is small and quick, your quick and small dline will not be as effective. When Frowine came in as NG, he drove the center back into the path of the pulling guards that normally PULL in a deceiving running game. burg needs to find 2 big guys that can do this on D and give the opposing team fits. but what I saw was Frowine come in, then frowine go out. No consistency. But I also will say that the loss of lang and the reassignment of Kemper etc.... did make the D play different. People who have practiced all summer then change positions, it makes it harder for the players to make reads.

Burg up 20-8 at one point and rolling. i think that call against the Burg calling the play DEAD was atrocious. Drrabbit had it right. Refs were completely lost. Chalk it up to Lawrence county refs. SP first TD was a fluke, Burg #4 was in perfect position and fell down getting ready to intercept the ball. SP player made a nice grab though!

Win and advance. Pounce on a down Ptown team. GO BURG!

2-0 is WELL DESERVED by this Burg team!!!! Only 4 senior starters and losing your starting Qb for the season. I'M HAPPY!!

Also, I looked up at the scoreboard in the foutrth and they had Burg winning 38-20. Thats where the confusion came in. Someone must have called in that score.

From what I have heard is that Frowine was battling cramps most of 2nd half of the game. I do agree that Burg needs to find 3 heavier/stronger DL for these situations. It would be great to field a solid DL with speed/quickness and not miss a beat with a strong/powerful DL when needed.

Craigmile, Walker and Adkins for the speed DL then Robertson, Frowine, etc for the power DL. I believe with a few games under their belt this could definitely materialize and help in a game like SP.

Kemper has been at DE most of the season and this game and only moved to SS this week but did not play much there in this game. Really only to give Schank a rest. Leach would then move to the DE spot.
