sportyfan wrote:I believe Jackson did fight a very tough battle against Ironton. Jackson has just a couple boys that even compared to the size of Irontons boys. The bigger boy Jackson had was double played everytime, he still stood his ground well and was able to still hold two of them at once! Jackson came out with a little bit of nerves and just wasn't able to shake them. So the 8th grade Jackson boys still dont need to hang their heads low because they played well! Ironton had more speed.
As far as the 7th grade They could have for sure beat Ironton if they were not playing 8th graders also! Ironton coaches called Jackson to see if they minded if their 7th grade team could play a few of their 8th graders on the team because they did not have enough players for the 7th grade team. Funny how when we got the roster Ironton's 7th grade had 15 players listed. They did not need help from their top 8th grade players.
Would LOVE to see a rematch between the teams. Jackson has a 3 week break after playing Wellston and Gallia, maybe Ironton can make arrangements to come here for a scrimmage during this down time.
Good luck to both teams the rest of the season and may you all be Injure free!
just to inform you, the 2 big guys on the line, and big #40 in the backfield that got all the yardage is a 7th grader, Would like to see a rematch, lots of talent from both teams and there were no injuries is always a plus
Re: 2008 Ironton Junior High Schedule & Results
Yes I agree, ALOT of talent from both sides. Really is going to be exciting when these kids play their varsity years against one another. Jackson has yet to hit their growth spurt, other than just a few of them. I predict that the 7th and 8th graders in Jackson will be SEOALl Champs come 4 years down the road.
Anyhow, once again Good luck on the rest of the season Tigers.

Re: 2008 Ironton Junior High Schedule & Results
Ironton didn't play their top 8th grade boys against Jackson we just have a couple of really big 7th grade boys . The 8th grade boys they are playing are some of the smaller 8th grade boys. I believe our roster for the 7th grade team is 13 so if it was up to 15 we only added 2. Considering there are 11 players on the field from each team a roster of 15 isn't all that many you need extra players in case of injury.
The 7th grade game was a close one and both teams should be proud of how they played. No excuses needed from either team.

Funny how whenever a team loses, the excuses begin to flow. I'm sure when Ironton decided to allow a few 8th graders to play with the 7th grade it was done so that Ironton could field 2 teams instead of one and allow more kids playing time. I doubt that it was done just to beat Jackson in a 7th grade game.
I still believe that at this level it should be about letting kids get the chance to play as much as possible. If that means allowing an 8th grader to play down, so be it.

Re: 2008 Ironton Junior High Schedule & Results
My point is, is that they had enough to make a 7th grade team with the 8th graders.

(our 8th grade last year played with just a few extras on the sidelines. The only way the 8th graders should have played is if they had injuries and needed them to play. There should not have been 7th graders standing the sidelines during their game so that 8th graders could play. Come on if you dont have enough for a team then move your few 7th graders up, dont move down. For example: Jackson did not have enough for a freshman team so they all move to JV they did not play with the 8th graders.
Once again I'll explain, There were only 12 to 13 that came out for 7th grade football this season, That was the roster 12 to 13, Due to small #'s they decided to bring 2 smaller 8th grader's down to fill the roster and give the kids more playing time, that's what it's all about is the kid's and the experience to learn, BEFORE the game was played you already posted your staff was aware of a couple 8th graders was playing, and still decided to play the game so the kids could enjoy playing a game, By the way it was a very close fought game with the deciding touchdown scored by a 7th grader
Re: 2008 Ironton Junior High Schedule & Results
I guess that the deciding factor would have to come from an outsider to whose side is right. Jackson played with only 16 8th graders last year and didnt ask for others to play.

Re: 2008 Ironton Junior High Schedule & Results
Sportyfan, sorry you were not pleased with the outcome but your answer is we have played two other teams since jackson and no complaints, Everyone just happy to get some playing time, Maybe someone else can post for you to be satisfied, but this game is in the past and we are focusing on the upcoming game, Good luck the rest of the year, Jackson does have a lot of talent on the 7th and 8th grade team and will make an awesome game when these kids face off in the years to come
Re: 2008 Ironton Junior High Schedule & Results

Congrats to the 8th grade Tigers, great game against the Burg. I believe the final score was 40-20. Go Tigers!

9/18 8th Grade:
Ironton 40 Wheelersburg 20
It's easy to complain about officiating when you lose, but Ironton won by 20 in this one and this ranks right up there with one of the worst officiated game I have ever seen. Numerous flags on Ironton long runs and TD plays that called them back and 2 of the officials were from Ironton.
Message to those officials: YOU ARE NOT THE SHOW, IT SHOULD BE ABOUT THE KIDS! NO ONE CARES THAT YOU ARE THERE!

Re: 2008 Ironton Junior High Schedule & Results
2 officials were from Ironton. The other 2 are from Wheelersburg (or if the one isnt from the burg he is from the surrounding area.) How many flags against Ironton did the official from Ironton throw? Also if the penalty is comitted whether the team is winning or losing or no matter where the ref is from isnt he supposed to throw the flag or just let it go because he's from Ironton? How is that fair to the other team. An official is supposed to be fair no matter what teams he is officiating.

You missed the point... The officials from Ironton were trying to go above and beyond to prove that they were not in favor of Ironton and let the game and penalties get completely out of control. I would estimate Ironton had 15 penalties and only 1 was false start or offsides. There were so many block in the back calls or "aiding the runner" calls on consecutive plays. How many times have you seen that called? I had to ask someone what the hand gesture meant because I had never seen it. It is not like the Ironton 8th grade team is mistake prone or dirty, because they are not. This was clearly a homer job and we still won, which is why my complaining about it cannot be sour grapes.
