Re: WK 3 (1-1) Portsmouth @ (2-0) Wheelersburg
The playoffs were a joke from 72-79 ,the schools that played the toughest sched's usually didn't get in. There were a ton of blowouts in the state semis and finals back then.
Re: WK 3 (1-1) Portsmouth @ (2-0) Wheelersburg
There were only 3 divisions back then compared to 6 now. I think only 8 teams per div made the playoffs then compared to 32 now. So your talking a total of 24 teams in the 70's made it, compared to 192 now.

Wheelersburg by at least 2 TD's. Just as much speed or more, and better line play and home field adds up to 2 TD's IMO.

Good Luck to both teams. Looks like another great game.

Backing up a week, does anyone have the SP game stats ? I am surprised no one has ask about them. The Dailey Times strikes again.

On a little different note, former coach Tony Lewis lost his first game last night at his new school.

Will Lang be back for this game or are we expecting a Schankweiler-Schankweiler backfield again for Wheelersburg? With PHS's line woes, that bruising backfield would cause them headaches.

Lang is gone for the season and probably basketball too because of an injury in the first game against Ironton.

This happened to East in 1983; we went 8-2 losing to Northwest and West that season and missed the playoffs by .300 of a point!

Anyway... I'm going with Burg 21 Portsmouth 7
I don't know why... but I suddenly find myself starting to be able to say and root for the Burg now! About the only time I root for Portsmouth is in the playoffs or when they are playing someone else that is not from here! I always want the southern Ohio teams to beat all others!

Re: PORTSMOUTH 1-1 VS WHEELERSBURG 2-0
--------------------------- NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND ABOUT PLAYING THE SMALLER SCHOOLS. WHICH THEY DO SOME. BUT BACK THEN, THEY ONLY TOOK THE TOP 4 TEAMS FROM EACH REGION. NOW THEY TAKE THE TOP 8. I'M GUESSING EVEN THE 7-3 RECORD WOULD HAVE GOT THEM IN NOW, THAT DID NOT IN 77.hammerdown wrote:Burg_Grad_77 wrote:portsmouth_98 wrote:Anyone have season records for 'burg since '73?
