Ok i'm confused here. fbnut posted that burg lost to valley because they fielded the worst team in 40 yrs. now you're saying you are going to have "the same great team this year". So just so we are all clear does this mean you will be fielding the worst team in 40 yrs again and if so how is it they will win it all this year. I'm just so confused by all this logic coming out of burg.PirateFan2 wrote:Burg lost 3 games last year..... Ironton, Valley, &West. We all know that Ironton is always tough year after year. Valley had a great group of boys that's mostly graduating. And West is always competitive but they to have lost alot of great players! Burg pretty much will have the same great team this year! So i'm very positive that Burg will definitely win the SOC trophy this fall! Not to mention that for the next 5yrs that I know of, Burg is going to just get better! They have lots and lots of talent and a great coaching staff! GO BURG!!!!!!!
Who takes the SOC this year?

Re: Who takes the SOC this year?
i think this year it is wide open. valley is breaking in a new qb but he looked good in the scrimmage today. i think it is even possible to say there could be a 3 way tie this year. west might have the most talent but they never match up that well against valleys spread. i think valley beats west, west beats burg, burg beats valley.

Not to mention the fact that Minford was left out of the senario. I think the Falcons will be able to create alot of havoc within the conference race. Only time will tell.
Go Falcons

Re: Who takes the SOC this year?
Nelsonville is supposed to be better than they were last year, which was a top ten D5 team all season. West got the better of them yesterday. West will be hard for anyone locally to beat if they stay healthy.

Re: Who takes the SOC this year?
Waverly will be the underdog in just about every game they go into this year, 3 wins in two years don't think people are expecting them to win games but they looked good yesterday in their first scrimmage.
Re: Who takes the SOC this year?
Northwests Senior class were 6-1 in the 8th grade so if they are going to win the SOC 2 before leaving for the SOC 1 this is their best shot.
Re: Who takes the SOC this year?
Northwest could not win the soc even if we let them play with 15 players on the field they don't have the resources to challenge from 5th grade up they basically get no coaching I don't see how a school with so many boys can not field such a poor team

Re: Who takes the SOC this year?
Based off nothing but pure speculation, like the rest of the folks on here, and if I was a bettin' man my money would be in this order:
1. West
2. Burg
3. Minford/Valley
4. The rest
I'd love to pick the Indians to be the top dawg but I can't go there with the amount of talent they lost last year. You can't replace the horses up front and the talented duo threat in Keller/Yates and expect the Tripe to perform at the same level. Valley won't be a sure win but they won't win the SOC this year either! JMO! GO INDIANS! Prove me wrong! I do believe the parity in the league makes all the schools stronger, especially at playoff time. How many different teams have won the league in the past several years? No longer is there a "SURE" bet! The Burg and West historically have been the dominate teams in the league. Minford and Valley has proven to be contenders/winners too. I believe the psychological hump in beating the Burg last year will only help Valley's program going forward. We shall see!

Re: Who takes the SOC this year?
The balance in the league is really good. Gone are the years of domination by Wheelersburg. Wheelersburg's football program isn't to the level it was and everybody else has gotten better. Also Burg has lost alot of the moxie that they used to have over the others.
With the playoff success that SOC II teams have had lately, we would have to be considered one of the better small school leagues in the state; or at least we're going that direction.
As far as this year. I thought it would come down to West and Wheelersburg. From what I've seen of the Nelsonville and Ironton scrimmages West is really good. We will find out more after Burg plays Ironton.

Re: Who takes the SOC this year?
I agree with almost everything here but i would probably flip 1and 2. Not sure about Valley yet either. They have the potential to contend but i havent seen the "Hunger" to really contend in any of the scrimmages. They have looked deflated and almost sleepwalking. Hopefully they wake up by the 25th. Then we'll all see what they are made of.starbase_318 wrote:Based off nothing but pure speculation, like the rest of the folks on here, and if I was a bettin' man my money would be in this order:

Here is my two cents:
1) West 5-0
2) Minford 4-1
3) Burg 3-2
4) Valley 2-3
5) Waverly 1-4
6) Northwest 0-5
Season just right around the corner, can't wait.

Re: Who takes the SOC this year?
Ok I've read through all of the comments in this thread. Every one seems to be interested in the wrong things. This goes to mainly the Valley and Waverly fans. You all can talk til your blue in the face about about how good your skilled players are. The reason Valley had such sucess last year was their line play. It dont matter who you got replaceing Yates and Keller if you cant block. As for Waverly your front 7 havent blocked anyone for the last 2 years so if that doesnt change your QB better be SUPERMAN!!!!!

This is funny! Who is the 1 that's going to beat west, burg, and minford? Are you saying they are going to beat each other? LolSPAMONY wrote:1)West 4-1, Wheelersburg 4-1, Minford 4-1

What's funny is that his scenario is completely logical while you have the league going 16-14 which is mathematically impossible.
