listen all im saying is how is he any different than what darryll davis did. if you can prove me that one then i'll start seeing your side. hall has done great things but he left at nw because they werent winning and just gave up. that place he could have proven what a great coach he is or say people say but he left becaue he didnt want his image tainted i believe. so please dont tell me how great he is when it hasnt really been proven yet.

He left NW because he couldn't get anyone to show up for off season conditioning and weightlifting. You may practice hard after the season starts but you really improve in the offseason in the weightroom. He only had 1-3 linemen that were showing up consistantly and putting in the time in the weightroom. No one will turn that program around with #'s like that.

Knowing the coach personally, I think that the right person is in the position but it IS up to the players, parents, and administration to allow the program to improve. The players must be willing to work hard to put themselves on an equal playing field with the elite teams in the area. The parents must be willing to let the coach do his job and stay in the bleachers and out of his office. The administration must not allow those few that always think that they know what is best to sway them and thus "run the coach off". It will take some time to "right the ship". You can't expect the program to "turn on a dime".

3 to 4 wins next season and since I've started watching HS football I've always felt bad for the NW program, and have long said that I wish things could get turned around and be more competitive. SO GOOD LUCK!!!

Larry Hall took over the head coaching job at the Burg in 1992 and left in 1998 and I know for a fact they won the SOC from 91 to 99 without losing a conference game. He also coached the defense for Ed Miller before he took over the reigns in 92 so the man can coach and is one hell of a great coach when the kids will buy into his system and listen to him and from what I heard from numerous people he just couldn't get that from the kids at Northwest.

SOC II titles
1991- Wheelersburg
1992- Wheelersburg
1993- Wheelersburg
1994- Wheelersburg
1995- Wheelersburg
1996- Wheelersburg
1997- Wheelersburg
1998- Wheelersburg
1999- Wheelersburg

Ok let's just say this...let's not blame this on one side or the other, some coaches just don't go with some programs, right now i believe that coach thompson is a very good fit for northwest, and the reason being is he is a stern individual who knows a lot about the game of football..but at the same time it is not the most important thing on his mind he understands what northwest goes through every year and is willing to stick it out even if nothing ever changes because these are his kids, this is his team.....while larry hall and northwest did not see eye to eye from the start, he didn't know how to coach a bad team because he had never had to before, I mean I heard enough stories about how great "arless breech" was to where I could tell the guys life story.....and before someone says "well it's not that hall didn't know how to coach a bad team it's just that northwest didn't know how to get taught by a great coach" im going to stop you and say northwest was taught by him just fine, it's just that his power offense the run you over because we're bigger better and stronger than you didn't work for NW like it did Burg is because we weren't bigger faster or stronger than anybody!.....and the reason he quit is because no one was showing up to lift that's true!, but the reason no one was showing up to lift was because he was EXTREMELY disrespectful to the school and the team and if you want to try and argue that with me you can't because I was in the school and on the team while this was happening and on multiple occasions I heard him talk about how bad we were and how stupid the school was and nobody knew anything at northwest....all im saying is that you could tell he did not want to be there and that he wanted to be back at burg and here is an example- A few weeks after he announced he would not be coming back to northwest me and about 9 other kids from northwest went to the ohio state football camp and larry hall was one of the coaches helping out and when they were announcing who they were and what school they coached at larry hall stood in front of all 10 of us and said wheelersburg as if northwest was a bad dream that never really happened, and you may say that's fine because he coached at burg for the majority of his coaching career but I found it personally insulting that he could stand there and not even give us an ounce of recognition......In conclusion hall has a great record and will probalby be recognized as one of the greats....and while northwest did give up on him, let's not forget that he also gave up on northwest!

I have heard alot of people from Northwest who have said the exact same thing that Coach Hall supposedly said about the school system and the team. Thats sad!! And I only said supposedly cause everything on here is "he said she said" so I try not to judge until Ive seen or heard it myself.

young man i applaud you for what you said and im very sorry your football career was not the best. i'm glad you said that about coach hall. as ive stated from the beggining coach hall has only coached great teams to greatness not to turn around the programs of the weak. that defines a coach, adversity, a good coach can take a burg and be succesful , but a great one does the impossible. i applied for the job at nw and when i didnt get it i was dissapointed but when i heard who had received the job i was very happy for him as well as the school for they were going to get a great coach. as a teacher as well, to be succesful you must make kids believe in what you are teaching and these days thats very hard to do. and to be a great coach you have to make the kids beleiev in what you are saying or they wont play or perform for you. that's what makes a great coach and thats why coach thompson is doing a great job and thats why darryl davis did a great job, they saw the light at the end and are doing anything they can to succeed.

He may have lost his first playoff game at East, but If you watched both games...you could tell a big difference in how the two teams played
