Volsfan:

I agree with what you're saying, "until your offered a D1 scholarship, you're not a D1 level player. Quit honestly, even the best players in the area will have a VERY difficult time getting looks, and I don't care how much they squat...

Local athletes are simply a victim of being stuck in Southeastern Ohio, plain and simple. D1 programs don't recruit down here, not even the MAC schools, so if you want to get noticed you've got to be your own advocate. I'm not saying that there is an overabundance of D1 talent in the area. Factually, it's true that there just isn't as much talent as in some of the more historically heavily recruited areas. Thus the reason why most good talent doesn't get the D1 look.

Let me also say this, I had options at all three levels and I chose to play at a DII school. There is absolutely nothing wrong with playing DII ball. It's more competitive than most people realize. Watch the Steelers tonight and you'll see Nate Washington who I had the opportunity to play against when he was at Tiffin. The GLIAC and PSAC conferences are far more competitive than the WVIAL and if you have players hoping to play on Saturdays, give these two conferences a shot.

I feel that if Evan Price of Minford would take place kicking as serious as soccer he could get a much better scholarship than in soccer. Although he is a first year kicker, he is consistently kicking 45 yds with no problem and has the distance from 50. Unheard of in this area. Not sure he is D1, but I'm just saying he could get a better offer kicking football than soccer. Good luck Evan!! Go Falcons!!!

Pretty sure that Chilly's Caleb Knights was offered by Army before the season began. But, as with all the "service academy" scholarships, that would also include a commitment following graduation. All the best to Caleb and his family regardless of his decision. Go Cavs!!!

Keith Wetzel from ironton.

5'9
195
bench 300
squat 420
40 time bout 5.0 but has an unbelievable work ethic. He will get that down some this year.
I seen him joging around town and running the track a lot in the off season and lifting weights all the time.I think he could with his talent but size might be a factor. He is a great kid to be around.
