The Jackson sectional has produced the two teams playing for the regional championship two straight years........in 2010 it was Ironton vs. Chesapeake, and last year it was Portsmouth vs. Chesapeake.........speaks well of how strong the Jackson sectional is.

Wouldn't be surprised if a similar scenario plays out again in 2012.......from my understanding, the top 3 seeds at Jackson won't have to play each other until the regional.

That's correct Dave. 1,2 and 3 will be in separate brackets with 2 and 4 being a possible match-up in the District Finals.

That is the best case scenario at least for the top teams being the ones with the best chance to advance.

With Portsmouth's win over Ironton, and Valley's win over Waverly last night, the Jackson sectional seeding possibilities just got a lot more interesting.........but still a way to go before the votes are tallied.

The Jackson sectional is always loaded, but this year it might be the deepest its ever been!!

I just came on here to find this very topic. The top of this sectional is just loaded. The top four are all very good and would probably be the 1 seed in the other two locations. A look down the road....

Current Standings: (Using PFloyd's standings)

Chesapeake 10-1
Portsmouth 12-2
Valley 11-2
Ironton 10-3
Minford 9-3
Oak Hill 8-4
Coal Grove 9-4
South Point 6-6
Rock Hill 3-7
Wheelersburg 2-9
West 3-8

As of now I would say:

Chesapeake
Ironton
Portsmouth
Valley
Minford
Oak Hill
Coal Grove
South Point
Rock Hill
Burg
West

I think Peake's win over Ironton and there only loss being without McMaster will give them the #1. The next 3 could go anyway. Portsmouth and Ironton split the season series but I think Portsmouth may drop another game or two. Valley's still has some tough ones @ Minford, @ Oak Hill, and @ Webster so they could lose a game or two. Minford's two wins over Oak Hill should get them the 5 over the Oaks. I think the others fall into place. Burg will end up the 10 if Oak Hill is the 6. Minford and Oak Hill and maybe Coal Grove are all Convo-worthy teams in just about any year other than this one.

5. Oak Hill
6. Minford
7. Coal Grove
8. South Point
9. Rock Hill
10. West
11. Burg

So Oak Hill over Minford even though they have beat them twice?

The only way Oak Hill gets the 5 seed over Minford is politics. Thus far the Falcons have proven themselves to be the better team on the court. With the way they play defense and the way McBee is capable of lighting up the scoreboard along with McCray's presence in the post, I think the Falcons are the only team with a legitimate chance of advancing past one of the top four in this Sectional. Those top 4 teams are ALL very special teams this year.

I have to disagree with Ironman92 when he said that he doesn't think any of the 3 District Championship games I listed above would be close. I don't see much difference in the top 4 teams in this Sectional, and the head-to-head results on the court when the four teams have faced off against one another has proven that.

Believe me, we remember what has happened the last 2 years for the Trojans at the Jackson sectional...........in 2010, we lost to Valley 63-62, and then last year our Final 4 team almost got knocked out in the first round at JHS, as we squeaked by South Point 65-64, surviving a last second missed shot.........so this year anybody we play will be an opponent capable of ending our season, no matter what the experts may say before the game.

Portsmouth's resume: 12-2 right now, with wins over Piketon, Ironton and Chillicothe........key games remaining before the draw include home with Warren on Jan.27th, home with Chillicothe on Feb.3rd, then home with Peebles on Feb.7th.

If PHS can win out to the draw I see no worse than a 2/3 seed for the Trojans........we are similar to Valley in that our 2 losses were in the first 5 games of the year.........VHS suffered their two defeats very early and have been a very hot team since. The 3/4 seed may come down to Ironton beating Valley head to head (if both teams incur no more losses), although it was the second game of the year for the Indians.

If PHS gets the 2 seed and Valley the 4 seed, that would set up a possible matchup of the Trojans vs. the Indians in the district final.

Minford has only played Oak Hill once and beat them @ Oak Hill , but they should get the 5 seed over oak hill , they beat them head to head and beat SW which Oak hill also loss to.. BUT politics ( NORM) always plays a roll in the seeding..

Jesco...you said only the Ironton/Valley rematch would be within 10 and then I said I don't think any of the 3 would be. IMO Ironton would win by 12-15 points...not a big disagreement from less than 10.

Ironman92,

I understand where you're coming from. I honestly just believe Valley is much better than some folks outside of Lucasville do. When I said that an Ironton-Valley rematch would be the only game within 10 points, it wasn't because I felt that it would be a 10-point game. I whole-heartidly believe any match-up between the Jackson 4 and the Jackson 2, assuming it comes to fruition, will be a toss-up...regardless of which team ends up being the 2 and which team garners the 4 seed. I respect your opinion completely and my opinion could very well be jaded by my own bias. I just believe this Valley team is every bit as talented as Chesapeake, Ironton and Portsmouth.

The best part, though, is whether I'm right or wrong; we will all get to see some very quality basketball at that Jackson Sectional. And, as always, the SE District D-3 Tourney will be solid as usual. I'm excited to see how the rest of the season unfolds and definitely looking forward to the tourney.

Valley impressed a lot of Chesapeake people at Beasts of the Southeast on Saturday. I have no problem saying the top 4 are Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Ironton and Valley and any one of them could beat the other on any given night.

Crab's Brother
I think the second Minford-Oak Hill matchup takes place after the tournament draw.

As for the rest of this topic, I'm very much in line with what the others have said about the top 4 teams. It will be interesting to see what happens if Valley runs the table... They have 2 losses and they came in a 5 day, 3 game stretch when the Indians had only been playing hoops for a week. Since then Valley has handled good teams like Huntington, South Webster, and Waverly in convincing style. They have a lot of work to do yet, as does the rest of the sectional, but it would be hard to discredit the Indians if they have 2 losses by 5 points and having a 15 game win streak.

The top 4 teams are IMO the 4 best in the entire region. You almost have to believe that the state rep is coming from this sectional. There's still a ton of ball left to play and a slip up could cause a shake up in the seedings.

It's a shame all four teams won't get a chance to play it out in the Regional. Looks like the best seeds will be #1 and #4 since #2 and #3 would have to play in the District final, I believe.

pantherdad,

Actually, Seeds 2 & 4 would play each other in the District Final assuming all 4 advance that far.

Tobias..... I think # 1 is pretty well locked down unless they have a hiccup , however the # 2,3,and 4 could get real interesting . I also think Ports will get the #2 with the remaining schedule they have . The #3 and #4 is up for grabs IMO and with Valley sitting on 2 losses and Ironton sitting with 3 even though Ironton beat Valley thr 3rd game of the season . My opinion is if Valley runs the table and ITOWN suffers another loss the #3 will go to Valley . Lot of ball to take place yet before the seedings so we will see how it all comes to fruition .

I would love to be a fly on the wall in the room during the seeding process for this Sectional. There are many factors that will come in to play, in addition to the teams' actual bodies of work themselves. In addition to conference affiliations, I'm sure the 2-seed will be pushing hard for the team they feel they match up best with to get the 4-seed.
