OK, if that is not proof in the pudding (in Wyatt's favor)...

Coal Grove winning powerlifting titles and being mediocre at football. Maybe it's because weightlifting, powerlifting and football are all totally different sports.

Saying that lifting weights will make you a football player is like saying an MMA fighter is better than another one because he has a beard, or thinking that by doing some big D-I college school's training program is going to miraculously make you fast.

Does having an in-school weight training class make the team better or does it just demonstrate that a school district has policies that are very supportive of football and athletics in general?

The latter. You can lift weights all you want, but if you don't have quality, effective coaching, all you'll have is a big, strong bad team.

Hugh Wyatt writes a football blog that he posts on the site where he sells his Double Wing offense videos and books.

I have had occasional e-mail correspondence with Wyatt; he actually posted an e-mail I wrote to him about soccer on his site in a place separate from his regular e-mail correspondence, which was kinda neat.

He runs a bit conservative politically for my tastes sometimes, but he has some interesting ideas about coaching football, offensively and in general.

One of these days I am going attend one of his clinics and meet him. Neat guy.

He coaches the North Beach Hyaks about 20 minute drive from me. He's quite the character if you've ever met him.

I guess that he has kinda gotten that Hyaks team going in the right direction this season.

MR. BOOGERED- I DIDN'T SAY THAT POWERLIFTING MADE A FOOTBALL PLAYER.

IT DOES HELP WITH STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING WHICH IS VITAL IN FOOTBALL.

WEIGHTLIFTING AND TRACK/FIELD PARTICIPATION ARE PRETTY MUCH REQUIRED AT CG IF YOU ARE PLAYING FOOTBALL. (UNLESS YOU ARE PLAYING BASEBALL.)

OPEN GYM IN THE SUMMER HELPS KEEP THE GUYS OFF THE COUCH AND THE XBOX.

AND I HAPPEN TO THINK THAT THE - AS YOU SAID - "MEDIOCRE" FOOTBALL TEAM IS LOOKING PRETTY GOOD FOR TAKING THE OVC TITLE UNDEFEATED.

BUT WHAT DO I KNOW? I'M JUST THE PARENT OF A FOOTBALL PLAYER WHO HAS PLAYED SINCE HE WAS IN SECOND GRADE. I'VE WATCHED HIM BUILD AND DEVELOPE HIS BODY. SORRY, BUT I'VE SEEN FIRST HAND WHAT IT'S DONE FOR HIM.

AS I STEP DOWN FROM MY SOAP BOX.....

It was not meant as a dig at Coal Grove - just stating the facts. CG is 6-3 and has beaten one team with a winning record.

I wish them all the luck in the world!
