Re: WK 6 Ironton @ Chillicothe
If I weren't attending the Logan-Zanesville game this week, this would be the one I would want to see. Again, a contrast of styles: Chilli will spread it out and Ironton will play smash mouth. I'd say the Tigers can benefit from having played Logan last week and they should play a little tighter coverage on the receivers. Note to Ironton, you need to do stunts and blitzes to rattle the QB. If he isn't rattled and is on, it could be another long night for the Tigers.
Re: WK 6 Ironton @ Chillicothe
dazed&confused,
If our line keeps Ironton's defense off Caleb, FOR HIM TO THROW OR RUN and continues to bust holes (wide open) for our backs to run through, and our CAV Defense keeps stuffing, the sky is the limit come Friday Night for our CAVS

You're Tiger Bait wrote:it's an awesome conference. i think the seoal , can rival it. if it keeps going in the right direction. ironton has been to 8 state title games, and have won 2. if the league , can replace any teams that continue to leave with quality opponents. i hope it regains it's luster as a great conference. it seems to me that everybody in the league has profited by the opponents. and that nearly evry team has improved.
Yeah right!! The SEOAL will NEVER EVER be able to be mentioned in the same sentence as the MAC.

grizzlynatural,
The only thing I could say to that, is, have your MAC Teams schedule some of our SEOAL Teams, have them come down here and play on our fields, then we will see.
Just because you say something like that on here, that is a blanket statement that doesn't carry any weight.

What a joke. Those teams in the MAC would eat the rest of you in the league for breakfast.

Army, I have always thought of you as a very smart and knowledgeable poster on this site but after that comment, not as much. Seriously, the smallest of the MAC schools (i.e. Marion Local, Delphos St. John's) would take most SEOAL teams behind the woodshed. And after watching what Coldwater did to Mooney last year in the finals, nobody in the SEOAL would want any part of that.

friday_nite_fan,
I know the MAC all to well. I used to live in that area and had the opportunity to watch them play from 1999-2001. I lived real close to Delphos and got the opportunity to watch them play. You spoke about Coldwaters season last year. That was last year. Would you also say that there has been an outstanding Football Tradition at Steubenville, concerning the Big Red for the past 50 years? Our CAVS played them in 2000. Everybody was telling us down here in Chillicothe we had no chance to win. Guess what? Chillicothe beat the BIG RED on their field.
Any team can be defeated. The MAC is not invincable, no matter what you say. It's the kids on the field who will win or lose. Period.

Except Logan?
Something like the 28-7 at halftime lead Chillicothe had over your Logan Chieftians in 2006, and our CAVS winning 31-21?

Okay army that last post just showed what kind of a poster you are.
So did you live up there in 1999-2001 or are you full of crap? "everybody was telling US DOWN HERE IN CHILLICOTHE (....the game was in 2000)
So were you in Chillicothe or were you up there around the MAC? Were you even a Cavalier fan then? You make me laugh lol

You think that would offend me, but it actually makes me smile. You have to bring up something that happened 2 seasons ago, i can bring up something that happened last season and rub it in your face and here in a month or so i'll be able to rub that one in your face too! Nice Try Army.

someoverkill wrote:In the late 70's and 80's Ironton was the equivelent of a D3 program. However, back in the dominant days, there was no discussion of "divisions" or "what divisions" the Fighting Tigers opponents were in. I read an excellent book about Tyler Whaley. In that book there is a quote from Bob Lutz that said he always wanted to play bigger and better competition.
The basic situation here is still blocking and tackling. Whether it was Ashland and their good program of the 70's, CAPE and their good program of the 80's, Desales and their good program of the 90's or Logan and their good program of the 2000's, the basic key to defeating those teams are blocking and tackling. Ironton has had a steady decline in those two basic principles in the past 5-10 years. Anyone who has watched Coach Lutz' teams has seen that the sure tackling was always a key to the defense. Ironton's base defense relies on the front 5 neutralizing the line of scrimmage and the linebackers cleaning everything up. Ironton has struggled with winning the line of scrimmage in the past 5 years or so. In Ironton's pass defense, the key is sure tackling, because many times there will be only one guy there initially. On a short pass the coverage guy needs to be sure in his tackling.
Many have said ironton needs to go to a spread offense. Maybe Ironton should throw more early in contests, but if you cannot stop the other team, it doesnt matter much. Games are won on defense.
It's a sad day in Ironton when we are making excuses based on the size of the schools we are playing. Whatever happened to taking on all comers? Ironton had 40 football players in 1979 and they have 40 football players now. Are we saying that 2008 Logan is as good as the Desales teams of the past? Logan is good, but nowhere near that good.
Lastly, I have mentioned them before, but Coldwater is a public school in D4. I think they are 2 TD's better than the Logan team I saw Friday night. The argument just doesnt hold water. A big game Friday night for Ironton. I would love to see the Tigers fired up from the sidelines to the field. Take the opening kickoff and drive it down their throat!
Great post.
Funny, when 2old posts this everyone on the forum is up in arms.
Re: WK 6 Ironton @ Chillicothe
grizzlynatural,
Like I said, those Kings, that was getting trampled in 2006 at half time in Chillicothe, and lost to Chillicothe at the Hernnstein?
Can't wait to see you all in week 10.
Then lets see if you are the Kings you are saying.
I and my family resided in Pauding County from 1999-2001. My Army Command I worked out of was in Columbus and I traveled to points south throughout Ohio supporting Reserve Units and travels to Ft. Knox. My wife is from Chillicothe and we have lived in Chillicothe since 1991, other than the 1999-2001 residence we resided in Pauding County.
So what's your point, Logan Fan?
One thing for sure, you surely will never offend me. Especially bragging about H.S. Football. I at least hope you actually played the sport unlike several of your posters on here that beat their chest, but actually never played a down on the field.

The top 2-3 teams in the MAC would EAT all of this league for breakfast most years. Maybe not the best Ironton teams, the mid-'90s Jackson teams, the 2000 Logan team, etc., but most years, the top 3 in the MAC (D4-5-6) would be the top 3 in the SEOAL.

I would say the MAC would of had some troubles with these Chillicothe Cavalier Teams to:
1985.....8-2
1986.....9-1........... (STATE PLAYOFFS)
1987.....10-0..OCC (Capital Division) CHAMPS......(STATE PLAYOFFS)
1988.....8-2....OCC (Capital Division) CHAMPS
1990.....10-0..OCC (Capital Division) CHAMPS
1998.....9-1
1999.....7-3.....(STATE PLAYOFFS)

grizzlynatural,
As a matter a fact I am always over near your side of the field before the game, by our folks supporting the CAV Team by selling products to raise money.
Hopefully I'll see 2old and Noreply66 there. I got to meet some of the Logan Posters 2 years ago.
One thing you will never have to worry, I won't be home for that game or any other CAV home game. Especially that one with Logan

Hey Army.. I served with a Reserve Unit out of Zanesville but had an attachment in Columbus....447th MPCO...Are you familiar?
Re: WK 6 Ironton @ Chillicothe
The 447th MP Company that drills at old Fort Hayes?
I served as the Chaplain at the 120th Chaplain Detachment (Team B) at the 643rd ASG at the Whitehall USAR Center near DCCS formerly DCSC. Then I went on my first mobilization with the 423rd QM Battalion out of Warren, Ohio.
