Im all in,

I got my information from someone who had the headphones on more than once and heard the suggestion of a passing play. That was disregarded by Coach Yates. The eyes in the sky have a much better view of the game and can see what plays SHOULD be run, whether that be run or pass. I have also been told by some of the parents that they have talked to Coach Yates and they were dismissed as well. Foolishness or arrogance, I really don't know. But it seems to me that anyone should be able to see that if the gameplan aint working you should try something else, BEFORE 30 SECONDS LEFT IN THE GAME.

If you would have had a tape recorder in the stands at the last 4 games, you wouldv'e heard that NONE of the fans seem to be behind the coaches strategy.

I still say you can not run the ball 90-95% of the time and expect different results. You have to mix up the offense or the defense knows what to expect. And I believe that if VC can not run the ball against Wellston, and Caoach Yates doesn't try passing the ball early we are in for another LONG night, probably putting Wellston on top 28-7.

One more thing, when I make myself look like a fool, I don't have 40-50 kids in the background being penalized for it. I proudly reap what I sow, ALONE!

I know of another coach who did that kinda stuff and he didn't last long....If your gonna coach you have to give your kids the best opportunity to win... This is not the Woody days were you just run the ball every play...you just can't do it...I agree, you HAVE to pass just to give the running game some respect, and vice versa....You have to make the LB's delay for a second or 2 before they react....I don't know how anyone would think you could win football games running every down....

Caution: You are about to read a post by Ted Striker that isn't filled humor or light-heartedness, like a majority of my posts are.

In all seriousness, this has gone too far with the blatant bashing of Coach Yates.
He is a class act, a good coach, and a great guy. Expressing disapproval of his strategies is fine but publicly posting fallacies about not listening to advice from assistant coaches is absurd and juvenile. If you are an upset parent, grow a sac and confront him with your issues. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy the festivities. What you are doing now is not helping and will not help. How bout the novel concept of support?

Not every coach or TEAM is perfect. Dealing with that is a lot harder than blaming people.

i sure do apolochize for mentioning the word consolidation   i was unaware of the new buildings at Vinton.

what kind of shape is the Wellston's school buildings in?

hammerdown,

The Wellston H.S. and Middle School are brand new buildings. Only a few years old. Bundy Grade School was built in 1970 and opened in the 1970-1971 school year. I think they added an addition to it a few years ago too. Not sure about that one though.

Ted Striker,

Here is what I wrote on page one. I cut and pasted this from a post concerning the matter.

Good luck to both schools in this rival. Both Teams kids are outstanding and live for this game. No matter what their record is. This has become a great rivarly. Remember that they are 15, 16, 17 and 18 year old kids out there. Embrace them and support there team and their coaches. When we put down there coaches on here, what does that say about us. The kids are getting far more than football by these teachers and mentors. They are getting life skills, like Character, Honor and Comitment. Attributes these kids will be able to take with them in life, way after High School. They have stayed together as a unit, in losing and winning. They have suffered together in the summer heat during 2 a days and leaned on each other through the good and bad. Some may have thought about quitting, but hung in there, due to their mentors and coaches. Most of them will never play football after their H.S. years. Support them and their staff.

May this game be an injury free one and one filled with sportsmanship portrayed by both teams.

To the best of my knowledge, I have not posted anything that is not true. I will admit that most of what I have posted has not come from personal dealings. I will discontinue the bashing for now. Friday night when the game is over we will see if anything has changed. My main point here has been that a head coaches job at the high school level is to find a way to win. I just don't believe that something that obviously is not working should be tried over and over. We've all heard that "If it aint broke don't fix it". I say it is broke and it's time for a fix. The head coaches job is to find a way to fix it. Maybe that means switching players positions. Maybe that means trying something completely different than what you have tried before. But I honestly don't think that just being supportive of the tactics that haven't work so far is going to change the end result. We had a little bit of a passing game going at UNIOTO. At least we were a threat to pass. It's time to make the competition think "What are they going to throw at us next, and can we handle it?" Right now I believe the schools we have yet to play are thinking "We shut down the run on VC, we shut down VC!"

Just being the Devil's advocate here, but what about Navy and their option attack?

That is kinda what it looked like VC was trying to do offensively when they played Jackson earlier this year. It will work if you execute...

I like Coach Yates, but my family loves those Running Rockets. The Vikes will slow down the game, and boy do I know how time can stand still.

However, these new look Rockets seem to play by their own set of laws at home.

So I'll go with Wellston by a couple in a good ole fashioned jail riot.

I wonder if this guy grew up on Wisconson Avenue and there was a grade school just down the street at one time :?: :-D

And has cousins in Waverly :?:

Got to go with my alma mater Wellston big in this match-up.

GO Golden Rockets :!: :-D

mward,

I have been reading this sight and the bashing on coaches is unbelievable. However, I believe your last post is what this sight IS all about. Making your opinions known about what you believe should be the direction, not just saying the 4 losses are all the coaches fault, because players truly play a factor as well. I am sure the kids are playing hard, but sometimes you don't have the talent to overcome opponents.

Army...could you please do all of us a favor and take a break from mentioning that Wellston is your Alma Mater ? We have heard this ad nauseum and while we are at it, take a break a post on the Chillicothe threads for a while...OK?

VIKEFAN,

Wasn't you one on here earlier, laughing and talking down about Wellston's Football Team? I believe that was just this past summer right :?: :-D

I can't wait to hear it, if Wellston wins and wins big, I assume the transfer issue will come up again by those few dysfunctional VIKES. :-D

Hmmm, now the tide has turned. I can be proud of Wellston just as much as you are of your alma mater, if you actually have one. If you don't like it, I guess all I can say is tuff :!: :-D

GO Golden Rockets :!: :-D

I am not bashing Coach Downs nor do I feel I ever did. I had a good relationship with Coach Downs. He is a great guy and a class act. All I was saying is that when he was at Vinton County he had a very blessed team and he did well with them. As far as saying he quit, he did. From what I know he was not asked to leave he decided to leave on his own. I just do not like people thinking that the admin. pushed him out. If I am wrong on this then I am wrong. But again from what I know he decided to leave. I am not here to bash any coach, team, player etc. I am here to support the team and the kids. I want VC to win just as bad as anyone else on here maybe even more. But there has to come a time when you must understand it isn't as easy to coach a sport as it is to coach from the bleachers and like it has been said these are KIDS not grown men. They will make mistakes and mistakes can cost you a football game, it happens.

That being said.... GO VIKES BEAT WELLSTON.

i dont see vc winning this one at all although i would like to see it, look for a big game out of Jeff Matteson for wellston and check out vcs possible new halfback ryan saya the kids a beast..............wellstonrockets your are completely right anyone who is actually around the players can tell you that ..........coach downs did resign but he was pressured by the higher ups in alot of ways to resign so a coach that goes to the playoffs then you run him off hmmm whats going on in vc ? but hey your going to say the past is the past and now we have to support yates

LOYALEDEVILFAN.

The kid your talking about is prater he's only a freshman and has a chance to be the real deal. he ain't getting as many touches this year but he's splitting time with senior leader lockard which is a heckuva 1-2 punch for the rockets ..
