All i can remember was the overalls. South Point was grand champ last night. stebbins was runner up and chesapeake was 2nd runner up. South Point had overall guard, and Northwest was overall Percussion. Our school has never been Grand Champion ever. pretty cool stuff. ps. Great Job Chesapeake
(i got in some serious trouble from my band director.) ALL THE BANDS did a great job saturday.

Way to go Pointers! Now two OVC schools have qualified for state lets see if the others can as well!
Re: Green Comp
Congratulatios to all the bands that competed at Green's competition.. I was working the back gate, and was able to see all of the schools that performed... I always enjoy seeing the results of countless hours of hard work, dedication, and perspiration by all that are part of the respective bands.. They all show such great pride in performing for their school.
It is always good to see and chat with a lot of people I know from the various schools.
Mr. Hunt has really done a fine job at South Point.... Chesapeake has improved a lot from last year... I always enjoy Green's performance, especially since I have two granddaughters in the color guard.
A big thanks to ALL the bands that attended.. it was a beautiful evening... Great weather.... Great bands... Great food.....
Also, thanks to all who came to watch and support the kids...
All bands are winners in our eyes!

Re: Green Comp
I thought Stebbins was the best overall. Great show and great music. IMHO SP show did not impress me that much. No disrespect, SP did a good job but Stebbins was better, sound wise. Best solo went to VC, The kid really nailed It. Loudest and crispest band was Green. Best they have sounded in 4 years. Was among several judges who stated they were extremely impressed with Green's show. Most improved band from a year ago has to go to 'Peake. Outstanding job from those kids. My only disappointment was from East and West, and that was just due to the lack of numbers from each band. Hope that interest will increase in their programs, they did a fine job but they need more participants in order for us to hear them. NW had a fine percussion section and deserved their award. Overall, it was a great day and every band should be proud of their accomplishments.
Re: Green Comp
Stebbins was bigger than South Point but I think that the guard from South Point added much more to the Point's show than Stebbins got from their guard. Also the tarps that SP uses adds the visual effects that was lacking from Stebbins. I think what judges want from bands now days is a lot of imagination. Stebbins was good but lacked on the visuals. Also it is harder to keep 80 people in step than it is 60 people that SP has. Alot of the kids from Stebbins I saw were out of step and their lines were not always straight. They did use a lot of lines with kids a yard off the yardline and alot of the lines not all the kids were in a straight line. In South Point's show they don't used a lot of lines with kids right behind one another so you don't see errors in placement of players as easily. That is why I think SP took the Grand Champion over Stebbins.
Re: Green Comp
I havent seen Stebbins this year but when I did last year at state I thought they were good. The only problem I had with their show was that the color guard, while very good, used the same color (red) throughout the entire show. Not sure what they are doing this year.
Most corps style bands are rarely in straight lines. Usually arcs and angled lines. If SP's guard is as good as last year, I would venture a guess that this is why they won. They provided a lot of General Effect that gave the entire show stregnth.

Re: Green Comp
Look, I'm certainly no expert when it comes to band performances. I am just like 99% of the average public, I go by what I hear from the end of the instruments. All of you make solid and valuable points and you certainly know more than me concerning color guard, visuals, straight lines, the list goes on. I, personally, could give a tinkers darn about tarps on a field, flags waving and batons twirling. I want to hear music, loud and crisp and clear! And I want it to make sense. In this festival I got my money's worth. My hat's off to all the bands, EVERYONE of them entertained me, and that is all I can ask.

Re: Green Comp
I think they all the bands there did a really good job.
It's pretty awesome to see how artistically expressive all of our
local bands are becoming and taking a different approach
to the marching show, and not putting the same ole' show tune
song and dance on the field(not that it isn't awesome, crowed pleasers are
always a lot of fun).
This area is really going to be something to watch for within the next few years.

Re: Green Comp
Apparently Mr. Sawdust you dont know a darn thing. There was multiple bands better than stebbins including South Point which totally deserved the Grand Champion that they got.

Re: Green Comp
Mr. Sawdust and wemufans,

Anonymous is in fact, NOT Brent Hunt whatsoever. I'm a member of the South Point band and I can say with full confidence that our band director, Mr. Brent Hunt, does not even have an account with this website.

AND, he is way to professional to even stoop to that level of arguing on a message board, to be quite honest.

Some people on here need to get a sense of humor. Send me a PM with your address and I will buy you one and send it to you for Christmas.
