WK 7 Fairland @ River Valley
Re: WK 7 Fairland @ River Valley
Not for sure but I think this was a school record for points in a single game.I know in 1984 we scored 64 againist Symmes Valley,And 3 years ago had 66 againist River Valley.IDK something about teams with valley in their name I guess!
Re: WK 7 Fairland @ River Valley
Fairland was very well disciplined both personally and fundamentally. Their devensive line blew off the ball and their pass coverage was very well operated. They seemed to be able to get between the man and the ball nearly every play. Not necessarily concentrating on the pick but rather batting the ball down. Also, I noticed when their coach addressed a player, the answer was "yes sir" or "no sir". I was very impressed with #6, #4, #41 and both devensive ends. Probably the best pair of ends that I have seen in a while. Their opponents may have to play two TE's to protect the backfield.
Typically you can pull the linebackers out of the blitz by throwing short but it did not work with this group. Their secondary seemed to be everywhere even when the linebackers were behind the line of scrimmage. The ends made it hard to send the TE. All in all, a very good defensive unit.
FYI, I asked the coach about the 15 year old's helmet and he said that it was special ordered along with the shoes which were size 22. He is going to bust some heads over the next couple of years. Overall they had impressive size and strength.
Probably the best thing I saw was #6's quickness and agility along with his speed. He took his time picking the hole but was always moving while waiting for it to open. You could not give him one inch or he was gone. It would surprise me if they are not the OVC champions this year. Their record does not indicate their skill.
RV actually did not look as bad as the score indicated. They put some points on the board but were simply overwhelmed on both sides of the ball. They are definitely better offensively than they have been in the past.
