The Pirates too much for the Mohawks.
Burg 48 Northwest 0
Hopefully Burg uses this opportunity to work on their passing game tonight. getting too one dimensional. A must IMO for them to be succesful in week 10 and beyond.
Here's to a injury free game and quality minutes for the second and third teamers.

I agree BULDOG I think that Burg needs to open up the passing game because the talent is there and could be used to stop the defense from loading up the box, also with that running game the potential for play action is gonna be there.
Re: WK 8 Northwest @ Wheelersburg
There is one series of downs that had the coaches and the referees confused and no one really knew what had happened. So in case anyone is interested here is what really happened:
In the fourth quarter, Northwest is driving for their final touchdown and they pick up a first down on the Wheelersburg 18 yard line.
On first and ten, the quarterback is tackled behind the line of scrimmage for a 3-4 yard loss in the region of the 21-22 yard line. Wheelersburg is called for a face mask and the ball is marked off half the distance to the goal to the 11 yard line.
Here is the first error: The chains are moved indicating a first and ten from the 11. But they were not suppose to be moved. It was suppose to be first and three from the 11 with the first down coming at the eight yard line.
On the next play, it is a running play and there is a one yard gain to the 10 yard line.
Here is the second error: The head referee, knowing that the Mohawks had only short yardage for a first down, looks over at the chains and sees the upfield marker at the 11, assumes that it is the downfield marker, and signals first down after only a one yard gain. At this point it really should have been second and two at the ten, not first and goal at the ten.
Here the questioning started because it appeared that Northwest had received a first down at the 11 and then another first down after a one yard gain. Neither group (coaches or referees) seemed to know what had really happened.
In the end, it does not matter because on the next run the Mohawks gained 3 yards and should have had a first and seven. But instead, they had a second and seven, which was to Northwest's disadvantage. But they scored on fourth down (what should have been third down) so all worked out as it should.
I don't think anyone on the field really understood what had happened so there it is step by step.
Oh and Brandon Schankweiler loses another TD on an inadvertant whistle. <sigh>

Great job Pirates.
The score was about what I thought. NW scores two against the second and third teamers.
Sad that B. Schank lost another TD run on an inadvertant whistle. How many is that now, 2-3? Just hope that doesn't happen in a big game, like say, week 10.
Now onto Waverly to take on the Tigers. Burg can't go in there thinking that just because Valley handled them last night that this game will be a pushover. Waverly would love nothing better then to knock off the Pirates.
Good luck Pirates. Drive on towards a 10-0 season and SOC championship Number 28.

Re: WK 8 Northwest @ Wheelersburg
drrabbit, that wasn't the only mistake this crew made last night. Not in any way did they help decide the outcome of this game, so don't make this out to be making excuses. On the inadvertant whistle, they placed the ball at the wrong spot. If I am not mistaken, Burg should have been given the choice to run the play over or take the ball at the spot it was when the whistle blew. Shankwiller (sp??) gave a nice fake to the back and most of the NW team tackled the back. However, when the whistle blew Shankwiller still had the ball four yards deep in the backfield. The official on the NW sideline even ran and marked the spot. The officials however gave Burg the ball for a two yard gain (Where the back was tackled.)
On a side note, all everybody saw was Shankwiller running down the field by himself. Two Northwest defenders (Lineman and left corner) actually had him surrounded in the backfield when the whistle blew and stopped their efforts. It still was a nice fake by both players.

NO just a few..the browns for the most part, ellis and stillwell at times.... oh and paul carver is a freak of nature in stature 6'7-340
If you guys have so many as you say "freaks of nature" how come you still cant win games? I'd say the real truth is you just suck! Either give up football or move to d1.You are an embarrassment to NW alumni like myself.End of story...
panther the reason we have "freaks of nature" and we still dont win is becouse the boys you are talking about are young boys. brown, our leading rusher for the season is a FRESHMAN craig crabtree, brown and ellis are all JR's so just wait for us here in a couple of years we will be able to compete if not win alot of games

Maybe the reason you lose is because you win with people...it takes the whole team to win a game...not a couple of "freaks of nature"

I look for the starters for Burg to play 2-3 qtrs and then the JV's will take over.
49-7
When was that?? 85,86,87?? Seems like I remember that one. I also remember that Burg cannon going off right and left after touchdowns.LOL
I thought it was 84,maybe 85 but pretty sure it was 84. I do remember the cannon being fired all night. It was also homecoming.
