Why no SOC wrestling?

Is Basketball that much of a king in Scioto County?

Unless someone watches it go into the specimen bottle, hydration tests can be faked. We did it in college. i passed at least 8 of those my sophomore year.

I think wrestling would be a good thing for Oak Hill to offer.

Especially since Oak Hill has the luxury of having Humphreys in our corner. Would love to see Oak Hill start a wrestling program.

Do some basketball coaches, especially at smaller schools in the area, actively campaign against adding wrestling? One hears things...

It's a common thing some people mistake a gymnasium for a basketball gym actually its a place for all winter sports not just basketball and all sports should recieve equal time I mean our weight room gets invaded all the time by girls , track, soft ball, boys, baseball track, basketball and its ok cause they deserve there time too. up until this year we only had one home meet a year this year we have three which is great the only things that will get you a team is interest and that starts with a good youth program believe me when you have 90 kids show up grades k-6 some people notice

If my kids were boys, I would probably steer them towards wrestling instead of basketball.

As a 10 year wrestling coach here are the reasons why most schools dont offer wrestling. First and foremost not many people no how to coach it. Sure you can teach a stance and double legs but as far as knowing pinning combinations, tilts, stacks and many other complicated moves that require time to set up and practice, not many people no how to coach it. Second not many schools want to put the money into starting a program that is showing a lack of progrsssion lately. In fcat there are more schools dropping their wrestling programs than there are starting them. Lastly, no interest from the kids or community to start one. You could have a great coach but if you only have a few kids the tradition will not start. Few programs in wrestling are succesful and alot of schools want to see their school succeed quickly or they want tno part of it.

yes jeep that is true but there is also more to molding a wrestler than just the coach . There are summer camps open tournaments and the parent must have the interest in it also . I know my son had over 50 matches a year since 5 th grade various open tournements finished his jr high career at 69 -7 an the rest of the story is yet to be written but you have to start somewhere and if you start it you will get help from former wrestlers returning classmen ect .

I agree and my parents did the same for me and i had a great career as well, but up until last year camps are expensive like Ken Chertows for one. Most of my kids that ive ever had have most always been the kids that are poor and come from bad situations. So money from the parents is a big key to have a succesful wrestler. I agree that wrestling made me a better athlete all around and im not saying its not a great sport all im saying is those reasons of what i stated was the main reason(s) why school systems dont want to start a program. I also thought of one that has recently been an issue and it's not just the ubnpopular sportas that hjave been cut, but rising cost of diesel has made a big difference in all sports and expecially sports that dont make alot of money. Things are tough for wrestling teams and schools are dropping this sport first before anything even golf.

but too be most specific its mostly about money to start the program. You have a10000 mat which not many school swant to jump on that really hurts them quick. So yes not tjust the coach but its mostly about the money for the program.

That's why there's a thing called a "fundraiser". When we wanted a new wrestling room at N-Y, we parents, fans, coaches, and wrestlers got together and worked our butts off to help. Fortunately, due to state funding and a new tax levy, the room was built. So, we used our money to put up the wall mats, bought a nice hand-bike (don't know the specific name), paid for a couple of summer camps for the team, and that's just a few of the items on the list that we helped buy.

If you want something bad enough, it will happen. It may take awhile and a lot of hard work, but it will happen.

When GAHS got wrestling the girls got vollyball so I don't see wrestling getting cut at gallia because vollyball is a huge girl sport at gahs as far as mats go if your athletic boosters are run right you can afford most anything at gallia football season pays for everything the boosters do the rest of the year. Iknow our youth program got mats paid for by different buisnesses from the community and private donations got the youth wrestling on a paying basis and have bought there own building. so there our many ways to get it started just as there are many excuses not too

one thing about wrestling there is no politics you want the spot then go win your wrestle off High School wrestling the most individual team sport in school you wrestle for your own pride and victory one on one with no help but your performance also affects the teams outcome . it takes a special kind of kid to handle that kind of pressure but what a better way to prepare a young man/woman these days.

Dude...you are so clueless. I see a lot of kids every day that NEED to not eat for a day of two once a month. I much rather have lean football players that have good feet and agile than a bunch of overweight slugs who spend their winters at the local Chineses Buffets.

dude?????

really you might want to study up a little before you make such assanine comment as that. not eat for days.... lol

its called eating a healthy diet and exercising every day.

"son, you are overweight and need to drop a few pounds therefore you are not allowed to eat anything this weekend"

if a parent told their kid that they would prolly be charged with child abuse
