What's the purpose of the "Sheriff candidate" comment?

There is nothing derogative about the sheriff comment. If I remember right two sets of brothers left Eastern and played at Waverly.

The comment just seemed a little weird, out of place, like there was some kind of dig there. I may have just taken it wrong or read too much into it. You are right, there were two sets of brothers.

Actually, there were six kids that left Eastern to play for Waverly that year...
Not all of them were Varsity starters, but there were 3 Readers, 2 Howards and a Hattle!

I think I am going to go ahead and say that there will be nothing "Super" about the Holiday classic, Piketon is going to win it--Waverly in Second and Western in 3rd......Eastern comes in last for yet another year....

Waverly is going to be a force. Waverly's starting five could all be over 6 feet. 6'7" (Lundin), 6'5" (Kretzer), 6'4" (Roback), 6'3" (Martin), 6'1" (Blanford).
Lundin is working very hard and will be a force on the boards. We all know Martin and Roback crashed the boards last season. This is going to be a much different team with nothing to lose. They also have over a month to get ready for their first game, unlike the past two years.

01: Eastern
00: Waverly
99: Piketon

I think this is correct but I know it has been a while since a team won it two years in a row.

I thought Waverly won the title in the '99-'00 season. I remember Luke Lambert was a senior for Waverly and Joel Shepherd was a senior for Piketon. I thought Waverly beat Piketon in the championship game. Am I wrong thinking Waverly won it that year?

Is it true that if a player transfers to another school they have to set a year before playing the next year?

I believe if a player transfers to another school to play a sport, they have to sit a year.

However, if a player moves into a District, then they can play without sitting.

Depends on the grade as well. If you going from 8th to 9th it does not matter.

So, then I was right in thinking that Waverly won it in the '99-'00 season? And based on their coverage, I wouldn't bet the farm on the News Watchman being right.
