And for the record: I'm not on here saying we would have throttled Ironton or anything disrespectful... I'm not even saying we would have definitely won... I'm saying it would have been competitive and Ironton AS WELL AS COAL GROVE would have had their hands full.

Re: coal grove vs. ironton
No matter who would win, this would be a great game for both teams. I can say proof positive that CG was not at their best when they played Ironton in the regular season. The only negatives I see for Ironton is that CG is a smaller school that wouldn't bring as many points in some instances and of course, if CG would win. The positives far out weigh the negatives, gate, travel, and the possibility of starting some kind of rivalry that would affect both schools positively (most of these young men and women know each other well). I remember always going to CG's playoff games and chanting "Hell no, we won't throw!", good times, LOL. I was also at a Girl's Sectional Basketball game a few years back at Lucasville, when Ironton played in the 1st game and stayed around and yelled for Coal Grove in the 2nd game. Most times, I think the students "get it" better than the adults. In this day and age of "Pay to Play" and rising expenses, this game makes perfect sense.

Thank you RiverRat Tiger. We're not trying to "hate on" Ironton... but it's ridiculous to belittle a school or team like that. It would be a good game for the community. And if nothing else, in the spirit of competition, don't you think it would give just another incentive to get out and bust it in the summer and work even harder knowing you're going to have a playoff atmosphere-type of game in the first couple of weeks?

Well lets see, how many 10-0 teams that have not made playoffs !!!!
Ironton could go 10-0 in the OVC and not make it, way to weak of a league !

Shows what you know about the OVC - nothing. Its been a LONG time since an OVC team went 10-0, but the OVC has had at least one team in the playoffs every year for quite some time. In 03, three OVC teams actually made the playoffs - none went 10-0 and two of them (Fairland and Rock Hill) were in D4.

Yeah... look at CG's JR High Team: Undefeated. How many years in the past 10 or so has CG won at least part of the OVC? How many times has CG's High School team won OVC in the same era? You can't always go on what the JR high does.

Not a very good showing for those 3 teams in 2003 now was there. That show how weak a league it was.

YTB I have read your posts and you know what, I think you're a pretty good guy who loves his Tigers as much as I love my Dragons. I have also seen you disagree with yourself just to stir the pot a little and I think thats pretty cool too(I have a lot of friends the same way ). I will say this I think Ironton would make a helluva addition to the OVC It would force us to play better and would give you a geographically friendly conference. I truly believe that the Ironton era of TOTAL domination is close to the end but I still believe it is one heck of a program. As for playoff points I can tell you that with a win over Rock Hill and South Point last year we were in but because the ovc was turned on its ear by everyone beating everyone else nobody went but I guarantee you if someone wins the OVC undefeated they will make the playoffs. Just look at the computer rankings at midseason every year. Now there is going to be people get on here and trash the dragons for my opinion but you know what those people can kiss my a$$ because I love my dragons and I love the conference I grew up with and I think it is going to get better. Anyway good luck to all the ovc schools every week except when they play my Dragons

The question was about making the playoffs, not what happened after they got there.
You're living in denial if you think Ironton's program is what it once was even 5 years ago. Before they begged people in Ironton to pass the levy, I remember people coming on here and saying if it didn't get passed they'd have to consolidate with Coal Grove or some other school.
I always try to take up for the Tigers when they get taunted by people on here like 2old and other Logan fans or other SEOAL die-hards who refuse to admit what a joke the SEOAL is terms of differences in school size and program development but now I see that Ironton fans bring a lot of this on themselves...

Re: coal grove vs. ironton
All Im saying is aside from bringing in a good gate this game would have nothing on the table for Ironton. Now the OVC as a league has started to schedule up which is a good thing. Look at the teams they have played this year perrenial contenders year in and year out West, Burg, Minford, Johnson Central, etc...., but Ironton even though they might be on a small decline still has more than enough in the tank to make any game vs any OVC school a lopsided game.

----------------------- CLAYTON, I'D LIKE TO MEET YOU SOME TIME. TRY TO MAKE OUR NEXT OBDTF MEETING . IT'S NOT JUST FOR TIGER FAN'S , HECK PEOPLE COME FROM EVERY WHERE. i seriously try to help keep this board hopping, i love my tigers as you do your dragons. and you are very correct about school sizes. rock hill, south point and i believe fairland all have more male enrollment than ironton. the ovc is an obvious choice, then we'd have a brutal non-conference schedule. or even the soc, big division. can you imagine the money to be made in either. by adding portsmouth and ironton. the travel proximity, the crowds, the gates. even for basketball games, baseball, and track, all sports would thrive. and i myself think the ovc , has strengthened considerably in the last 2 years. rock hill, is having a rough go of it this year. but just last year made the playoffs. in football only, it would take the other teams stepping it up a notch to compete with ironton, or portsmouth. but people usually play to the level of their competition. and i think it would stop the transferring thats going on , in the county. to any, and all schools. 3 of our starters transferred to rock hill last year, and 1 to wheelersburg. of course it hurt us. my only worry is would it battle test teams for the playoffs while the league is growing. with our current schedule, it's brutal playing thee larger teams, week in and out. but it sure helps playoff time. when you are playing, for the most part teams your own size. don't get me started on the mooney's, the akron svsm's. they draw from such populated areas. way larger than our entire lawrence and scito counties combined. i like your thinking. would it, if nothing else. make every team, solvent financially.dragoncoach56 wrote:YTB I have read your posts and you know what, I think you're a pretty good guy who loves his Tigers as much as I love my Dragons. Re: coal grove vs. ironton
Seems like the big point being missed is that Ironton is not content with just making the playoffs and that they would like to get back to where they were even in recent history. YTB has very good points in that the SEOAL will prepare them for that test and in some years they may not run into a D4 team in the playoffs that is much better than the teams they have played in their own league. Fuzzhead wrote" the question was about making the playoffs not what happened after they got their"?????? What? I don't think IHS players or coaches set goals simply to make the post season, they want to compete at least a little in the playoffs. From what i have seen in thier lower levels, better be careful what you wish for b/c they are gaining in their ability to compete in the SEOAL and are really coming back around to where they want/need to be to be like IHS of old. No comparison to IHS and any team in the OVC, simply put. PHS is a SEOAL cellar dwellar this year and beat SP. IHS is in the right place to achieve success in every sport. Set high goals and be proud, set low goals and achieve nothing in the end. Now if all that matters is gates and money then geography says it's a no brainer. I say schedule this game non-league for a 4 year contract and then have this discussion. Ironton has enough chances to win against quality opponenets that they really don't need too many playoff points in their non-league schedule. Rivalry, yes, good football games, NOWAY!!!! Especially not for the next several years.

^^^^^Idiotic post .I had 2 paragraphs written but you know what pi$$ on it. As long as the chest thumpers get on here and degrade the ovc I hope you do stay in your conference. That way I can take pleasure in Logan beating your a$$es year after year and as for you "high goals" of playoffs seeing you either not make it or make an early exit. Sorry about the rant ytb, xandos, bwh and a few more but that post is the kinda crap that makes me sick

ps a little side note I started reading that guys posts and found out he is from Gallia cty so I might have been a little harsh. If you read my posts you will never see disrespect to either a conference or a program because after all it is a group of kids and they are all putting a lot on the line for their schools and their communitys. I have a lot of respect for these young men who strap up on Friday nights and hit each other so us old farts can get on here and thump our chests. Anyway good luck to all and to all those boys play hard and if you play my Dragons hope you play well but hope we win.

Don't put a spin on what I said. If you've EVER seen my posts responding to Logan fans bashing the Tigers, the thing I ALWAYS bring up is: "What's Logan's postseason record?" They can't stand it because they know they're nothing special in their own division.

That was a stupid post because if an OVC team would go 10-0, they'd be in the Postseason. That doesn't mean they'd win once they were there, but to say a 10-0 team wouldn't make the playoffs is stupid. That's what I was responding to when I said what you quoted.

The OVC schools cant and wont ever be able to compete with the Tigers.
Just like the Tiggers can't compete in their own conference

Ok, Ironton has a winning record. That's good.
Now: Look at Lutz's record against the SEOAL before he left for a year and compare it to his record/winning % in it since he's been back. There is NO COMPARISON - NONE.

You have to look at the other teams in the League some of them have improved drastically since we were in the League before, alot tougher competition.
This seasons teams that we have played in the League so far. No slouches here.
Logan ranked # 3 in D2 Region 7.............8-0.....5-0 League
Chillicothe ranked # 5 D3 Region 12..........6-2.....5-0 League
Jackson ranked # 11 D2 Region 8.............5-3.....2-3 League
Gallia Acad ranked # 7 D4 Region 15.........5-3.....2-2 League

Ok, so you're admitting other schools are catching up with and/or have even overtaken Ironton - whether in size or in program level - makes no difference because you're just backing up what I've been saying.

No doubt teams are getting better, no shame in getting beat by quality teams.
Ironton is 4-3 and still ranked 3rd in D4 Region 15. We are ranked higher than 5 teams with better records than us and 4 teams that have the same record. why? Because of the level of competition we play.
