I think Rock Hill's '05 squad would have beaten Ironton's '06 and '07 teams. No one in the OVC was even in the same stratosphere as that team was.
Rock Hill only has 5 seniors this year + a first year QB + they're passing a lot more than they have the past two years. I don't think they'll win the OVC next year, but they'll definitely be competitive.
Next year, Coal Grove should have the best backfield in the OVC and their line is always good even though it might not be as good as it has been - they'll be favorites to win the OVC almost certainly.

No. Its one thing to be the best team in the OVC, but once you leave that league as we have found out time and time again its a whole different story. Rock Hills 05 team was good for an OVC team, but to say they would compete with Irontons 06 teams is ludicris. That Ironton team had most everybody back. Those are the same guys that ran 4 plays all game and dominated that 05 team.

Ok, how many plays would you say Lutz runs per game on average? I thought he was renown for his commitment to blocking, tackling, and ball control, not his creativeness on offense. 8)

Many Ironton fans thought that it was Triplett's fault Ironton didn't do as well as they thought they should. Maybe Rock Hill beats them with Triplett at the helm - without Lutz running his "4 plays".
In 05, South Point had almost all of the same players who beat Wheelersburg the next year and lost to a very good Waverly team by 6. They had a QB in Smith who was good enough to play DI ball in college. But they got beaten by the Hill, too.
I have all the respect in the world for I-town football, but when blind arrogance overtakes normal program pride, you'd better be prepared to be humbled.

its hard to decide when a game would be good though. . . .its just never positive what you'll have 3 years down the road. .
take any 2000 01 02 03 04 peake team, would have pretty much taken the 07 tigers outback and ran a train on their girl. . .
or god knows. . portsmouth. . peake never has beaten them. . .they were rediculous when we were good. . and just barely better the past few years

get a game thats a rivalry.. . .CG or RH would be good money duh. . if your going to play canadian teams you should be able to pick out the best rivalries in the area cause the SEOAL attendance just isn't getting it done

Fuzz, you gotta face facts. OVC teams cannot compete with Ironton. Its a totally different brand of ball. Its not blind arrogance or pride. Its knowing football.

This year it wouldn't be a good game - that's a given. I'll admit that 100 times over. The OVC is down - way down. BUT the OVC doesn't really do anything differently than Ironton as far as style of play goes. Ironton doesn't out-think you and they really haven't made a living off of outclassing opponents - especially the big guns, they outexecute you. They're from the exact same county as over 80% of the OVC and they're in the same region of 4 OVC teams - how much more talent could they possibly have? As I said before, it's a matter of time.

Thats a different story scheduling the Canadian teams. Playing a team like that is a once in a while thing. Its cool for both the fans and players alike to get a chance to play a team from somewhere far away.

and it doesn't hurt that it is an easy big computer point game either, I mean play a bad Canadian team that would be D2 in Ohio, there's some easy points, and if you get those teams down here why not return the favor and go up there.

I think Coal Grove should schedule Canadian Teams - then we could be in the playoffs every year. I'd donate my own money to bring them into town if others would chip in.

Mentality is totally different. Yes the OVC does do something totally different than Ironton and that is they lose. The only teams they beat is each other. Every 4 years or so they manage to win outside the conference then that team will want to talk smack about beating Ironton. The Tigers year in year out win consistantly. We are the measuring stick for all the teams around here.

I can't stand it anymore... :-D
Ironton wasn't a very good 'measuring stick' in 2007, eh?

Still better than the OVC teams that year. I mean yeah the Grove and Hill had better records, but look at the schedules. Ironton played 6 teams with winning records. While the Hill and Grove played a combioned 5 teams with winning records. So in reality Ironton would still be their measuing stick.

converterfan wrote:ironton would have beat the burg by 3 tds if it wouldnt have been for turnovers. thats what made it a THRILLING game with the burg coming out on top.

theres your chances!!!!!!!!!!

makes me sick, Burg lost a starting QB on a run for a TD but he blew his knee out cutting back against a tiger that had no chance to tackle him Also, Burg soph QB fumbled on his 1st or 2nd drive. burg turned the ball over 2 times in the 2nd half. Ironton gave up the ball twice on good hits (sorry about your luck) and the third was a duh. Burg gave you 2 fumbles in the 2nd half but who won the game???? Tiger fans like you kill me!

Saw the itown 8th grade last night and earlier this year saw the 7th grade. Better wait a few years to schedule this one b/c Ironton will be better for the next few years than they are this year and NO WAY this would be a game this year or next. I however that this series could be a good gate and I say schedule it for a home & home or even 4 year deal and then see what's what. Only problem is that Ironton, even in a win, isn't going to gain any computer points. CG would be a better test than that Canadian team. NO team should continue to schedule cupcakes, if over the course of a few years one team cannot compete then drop that team and find a different opponent to schedule. Find the ads and get this rolling. BTW, a good gate is one that draws from outside of either participating school and no way this one draws that attention, especially in the second half.

Isn't that the boy Ironton got from the lowly OVC.  What was it one of the Ironton chest thumpers said on here, something like an all star ovc team couldn't compete with Ironton????
