state says kids can start school at either 5 or 6. the law is the law and if a kid is playing, you can bet they are age appropriate so having people going around asking if they are held is just a waste of time.

According to OHSAA...

High school students (grades 9-12) who turn 19 years of age prior to August 1, 2011, are ineligible for interscholastic athletics.

Seventh- and eighth-grade students who turn 15 years of age prior to August 1, 2011, are ineligible for 7th-8th grade athletics
but are eligible to participate in high school athletics.

my wife is a teacher and she is pretty sure its turn 19 after 8-1 2011 and 15 after 8-1 because the kids could possibly have been retained in school in kindergarten or first grade and that would make them 19 at graduation also or something like that ....

I believe Shawn is only 14. I might be able to swipe the tape from that game or say something to the coach about posting it online. Both grades are still undefeated. VC 7th grade just beat an undefeated Jackson team by 18.

Big rematch tomorrow between Portsmouth and Valley at Valley this time. The Indians are 8-0 (7-0 SOC 2), and defeated the Trojans in a very good, physical game at Portsmouth last month. Any area basketball fans interested in catching a competitive game between two talented groups, come on out to Valley Middle School at noon tomorrow with the 7th Graders tipping off first and the 8th Graders to follow!

Why did Vinton cancel its junior high games against Gallia?

Lol....that was absolutely my guess. I recall back during my 8th grade years we were very good (main group of last SEOAL Championship) and we played at Allensville and we put two different and excellent guys on Jason and he went for a cool 35....he couldn't dunk but could do everything else.

1 lynchburg clay
2 lucasville valley
3 portsmouth
4 peebles
5 eastern pike
6 north adams
7 eastern brown
8 fayeteville
I have not seen minford and zane trace play but have heard they have good ballclubs.
I think Symmes Valley needs added to this list. They are 11-0 I believe and have beaten Eastern Pike twice. They beat them at eastern pike last night in a great game to watch. Both teams really went after it. Very fun to watch 2 very good teams.

I didn't know VC junior high was suppose to play Gallia. Thought we already had a full schedule. Will get more details.

The top 5 should look a little more like this:
1. Zane Trace
2. Lucasville Valley
3. Vinton County
4. Portsmouth and Chillicothe

Logan has beaten Chillicothe this month and played VC back in December and will play them again on 02/01/12--Don't know who won the VC 1st game.

Went back and couldn't find where VC and Logan play [12/21/12]

Got to have Minford on that list after their victory over Valley last night.

Evidently you haven't seen the Symmes Valley 8th grade boys play. these young men are awsome, fast and read each others mind before they think it, and did I mention FAST. If you get A chance you really should see these guys play. Its obvious why their undefeated winning against great teams like Eastern Pike and Sciotoville East twice. Also winning against OVC teams like Coal Grove and Rock Hill. The SOC 1 and 2 seem to be southeastern Ohio's finest. Great job to these teams and keep it up so that on those future trips to STATE the northern schools won't dominate anymore.
