I know that I have said it on here before but, I just can't express it enough! Coach Mercer in my opinion is a great coach in ways that are not measurable by wins and losses! I really enjoy watching him coach. I have no idea how old the man is but, he certainly has a strong passion for the game and for his kids! Coach Mercer is out in the field on almost every play; offensive or defense; it doesn't matter. And, is coaching his kids up on every play! I watched this man coach with the same fire in the 4th qtr. with 2:30 left on the clock losing 26 - 7; as he had on the opening kick-off! And, as a result of him giving his kids everything he's got from the first tick to the last. His kids give him everything they got! It is clear that Coach Mercer loves these kids and they love and respect him!
I had a few moments to speak with Coach Mercer before the game as he walked over to the endzone by the concessions... I told him who I was and expressed to him that I admired him for what he has done; not with just teaching kids the game of football but, how other things are just as important in life! I truly enjoy watching this man coach; he's a players coach that is for sure!
To the Green fans... While I was standing in line in the concessions preparing to make my contributions to the Bobcat nation. I overheard a couple of fans saying that he was not worth much as a coach! I told them that I thought he was a good coach and that they should be glad to have him! He does more for these boys than most will ever know! If one would hear how he praises his team on Saturday mornings with the areas famous "Ole Ball Coach", Jim "Snuffy" Smith. You would think that his team is the greatest in the world and that he has the best kids in the county! That proves that he never gives up on his players and that he cares enough about them that they are always champs in his eyes! You should be glad to have him and thank him for being there for your players!
Now, on with thoughts about the game! We had some problems with the flags flying out of the officials pockets again this week. We have got to stop these silly mistakes. Playoffs are no place for this to take place! Fumbles! Dropped passes! The only thing I can say is concentrate and tuck and hang on to the ball! Stop trying to one hand catch passes! I will say that I liked Hood when he rolled out and seen that they were covered or could get the first down by his wheels; tucked the ball and runned for all he could get and then stepped it out of bounds! He is really starting to develop into a really good QB! Just a shame we didn't have Coach andy Hall to start developing him when he was a sophmore or junior! He would be teeming with confidence and blistering the airways this season! Defense! What can I say... another good game. Didn't pitch the shutout but, hey... good game!
This just proves that DEFENSE always wins games (DAWG); and CHAMPIONSHIPS! Because one thing is for certain... if they can't score; they can't win!
This game was was well officiated, all flags were deserved. This is the crew that will be at Burg-West next week so maybe they were fine tuning themselves, trying to get everything just right, because we all know a lot of critical eyes will be dissecting every little play next week. Now that wouldn't be my idea of a fun night for a ref especially if West loses because of penalties.
Maybe I am overly critical of QB but he still doesn't secure the ball as much as he should.IMO.
