Re: ALL SOC 1 & 2
Is the SOC All-Star match just for seniors or everyone listed? I have never heard of this before?
Re: ALL SOC 1 & 2
As far as I know the game itself is just for seniors, but I believe at halftime they usually give out the actual awards to the people that recieved them.
Re: ALL SOC 1 & 2
There has been an SOC all-star game for more than 10 years now but it is just for seniors and not just those listed for first or second team. Coaches can and are encouraged to choose at least three seniors to send. Some teams have sent as many as six seniors at a time which is often necessary since some schools don't have three seniors able to attend or the coach does not send anyone. When there were nine teams, three per team only gave a maximum of 27 players with minimum of 22 needed to play a game. Coaches of the year are in charge of coaching the two teams. T-shirt 'uniforms' have always been provide free to the participating seniors. They need to bring their own shorts, socks, shoes and shin guards of course.
Teams are divided roughly between SOC I and SOC II but as needed to get goalkeeper and players evenly distributed. Most kids seem to have a lot of fun in a non-pressure game situation.
As I recall, this is the third time that South Webster has hosted the game. Minford, Valley and New Boston have taken turns hosting. Valley and Minford has also each hosted the district all-star game.
If you are a senior on an SOC soccer team, talk to your coach about attending. As far as I know, even the Minford girls team could send seniors even though they never have. I for one would love to see Haley Figlestahler show what she can do.
Good participation by all teams is important. Team and individual SOC awards are presented at half time.

Re: ALL SOC 1 & 2
There are no SOC honors for girls. They need to have a league championship before they will give out honors. The SOC usually requires that there be at least five teams. We are (unfortunately) still four teams short of that.
They are eligible for district honors though and those will probably be published next week would be my guess. While I have them already, I am not allowed to release those without permission.
I think the District all-star game is the 2nd or 9th (Sunday) and will be at Piketon this year. Girls play at 1 pm and boys will play at 3 pm.

Newsome has an E on the end!!lol...
Re: ALL SOC 1 & 2
I noticed they had left the 'e' off. It is not the only mis-spelling but that is exactly how the list came from the SOC.
Chris Wiget's last name is spelled wrong as is Ravan's first name. And I have never been sure about Caleb Wolfe, on the roster this year it was Wolf though in years past it was Wolfe. And then there is Steven Russell from New Boston. It is frequently spelled with only one l in the last name=Russel.

Re: ALL SOC 1 & 2
I disagree Galaxies8 Waverly must find someone that is passionate about the game and it still being relatively new program not many of those people in the system.I still hold out hope Murphy will reconsider his decision. Because the program trully needs him.

Re: ALL SOC 1 & 2
It was time for a change in Waverly soccer. I'm sure they will be able to find a qualified and passionate new coach that will spark some much needed life in the program.
Re: ALL SOC 1 & 2
The "Waverly Soccer can only go up from here" and "it was time for a change" posts seemed strange considering we just lost a coach with over 100 career wins and 4 SOCII Championships!
If the new coach can come in and institute a "WE not ME" attitude in the team and they buy into the concept then we might see a positive change in the program that might equal what Coach Murphy accomplished!

Re: ALL SOC 1 & 2
I think soccerstory is speaking for the majority.
If Chris Murphy resigned to spend more time with his family, like his brother Matt did last year, I commend him for that. Why would you want him to reconsider such a thing?

Re: ALL SOC 1 & 2
No coach will have everyone like him all the time, but Coach Murphy did a great job for the Tigers. They do need a passionate coach, not to spark life into the program, but to keep life in the program.

Re: ALL SOC 1 & 2
was ashley gilley the only girl to be mentioned on the soc team? if so that is really impressive....im not sure about christian nielson that can be a girl or boys name, or raven Idzakovich which i think would be a girls name in america but looking at that last name im thinking a foreign exchange boy!
Re: ALL SOC 1 & 2
Christian Nielson is Minford's foreign exchange student and he is a he.
Ravan is not only NOT a foreign exchange student but she has played for west for four years and have held down the starting stopper position nicely this year.
The one you did not notice is Mychael Hamilton and she plays a very tough fullback for New Boston.
So there are 3 girls on the all-SOC teams this year.

Congratulations to the Minford soccer team. Minford coach should have been Coach of the Year.
