Waverly Baseball
Any early predictions on how the team will look this Spring?
Does anyone know who will coach the Reserve team for Waverly this season?

Re: Waverly Baseball
Waverly has to be the favorite to win the SOC this year. They return all but two starters, from a team that went 18-10.
Re: Waverly Baseball
Waverly will be better this year. I look for them to finish anywhere from 2-4 in the league.
Re: Waverly Baseball
Waverly's season depends on who goes out for the team...If the right players come back, the Tigers could go four to five deep in their pitching rotation...
Robertson, Martin, Roback and Underwood are the first four to come to mind!
The addition of freshmen Nathan Howard (batted nearly .600 in JH) , Jacob Knight and Kennedy Roseberry would be a huge boost for the Tigers as well!

pc-Robertson, Teeters and Martin will likely be the 3 in the rotation. I don't see Roback pitching much because of the football situation. With Tackett and a couple others getting the relief duties.
The Tigers only lost 5 players from last season, it's not every day that you have freshman step up and play on the varsity.

Re: Waverly Baseball
i see waverly as being a huge contender in the soc while being led by ryan robertson but dont count out minford and burg

Re: Waverly Baseball
There will not be any freshman playing varsity this year. The biggest problem with the Tigers is they are slow- they have no speed and they will be weak on the right side. If Roback plays he has good speed but not baseball speed- he should have been stolen base king but struggles on the base paths.

Sorry, I left out Teeters...He too will be a huge arm for the Tigers!
As far as Freshmen not playing Varsity, Coach Noble would be making a HUGE mistake not playing Nathan Howard. Besides, he is a decent 1st baseman which would help their "weak right side"!
Waverly only lost 5 seniors, but were they all starters? There are some holes to fill...I am not saying these Freshmen will all be starters, but I could see at least 2-3 Freshmen dressing for Varsity!
As far as speed, I agree there is not much, but if Underwood and Remy get playing time, they can move with the best of them...

Re: Waverly Baseball
Walls,Teeters and Lansing are the 3 starters that graduated. They have kids to step right in and fill those voids.
It's a big jump from Jr. High to High School pc. Waverly has been blessed in the past few years to have freshman be able to step right in and be able to play, Martin most recenty, along with Robertson and Teeters.

Re: Waverly Baseball
pc sounds like you should stick to soccer. And let coach Noble coach the varsity team.
Re: Waverly Baseball
I have to agree... Huge jump from JH to varsity pitching. Also the game is much quicker. Heck even a big difference from JV to varsity. Hitting .600 in JH is probably not uncommon for most good players. Hitting .500 at the varsity level in a full season is tough for a senior let alone a freshman. Griffey is in the all-time record books for average in a HS career and his HS BA was .471 I think. I even think he may be 3rd on the list.
Let the kid develope at the JV level his freshman season.

Re: Waverly Baseball
Wow! Sorry I ruffled so many feathers with the "Freshmen playing Varsity" post...
Coach Noble has a great baseball mind and will definitely field the best nine players he has (regardless of grade)!
Let me say this to "Hunter"...I do love soccer, but I also coach BASEBALL! I have played or coached baseball my entire life...most recently, I was an assistant for the WJH team...I do have a LITTLE knowledge of the sport!

No feathers ruffled here. I'm from Burg and have no dog in the fight. I am just voicing my opinion in matter. Even not saying the kid cannot play varsity but it will be a big adjustment to make.
Re: Waverly Baseball
Waverly will be unstopable if they play the entire 7 innings of each game, they could of been an excellent team last yr but they couldnt hold it together. What all teams do you think will be strong behind the plate this yr ?
Re: Waverly Baseball
pcohio I respect the fact that you coach JH that is great. But to think that coach NOBLE would be crazy to not play
the freshman you have mentioned, might be pushing it. I know for a fact that if coach thinks that a young man should
play Varsity he will. I am a coach also and have coached some of the young men that you have mentioned. They are good players, all of them. But lets allow the varsity coaches to decide who will be on the team.

Re: Waverly Baseball
I am sure the Varsity Coaches WILL decide who is on the team and my post on SEOP won't affect their decision at all...This post, like EVERY post on here, is strictly my opinion!
Re: Waverly Baseball
Bucki4life are you angry with Waverly sports? Maybe you're from Burg where you're supposed to bash Waverly athletes. I've noticed on most of you're posts you are generally negative about Waverly athletics eg. guards on the basketball team, the right side of the baseball infield and now Derek Roback. These kids read this garbage, so put yourself in their 16-17 year old minds, you don't want somebody chastising you or your kid. Be nice and play right.

Re: Waverly Baseball
Baseball is the one sport where a freshman can compete. anyone who thinks different is either an upperclassman or a parent of one. The kretzler kid if he plays is good enough to start for Waverly.
I have the utmost respect for coach Noble, you guys need to get a clue. Quit think with your heart and think with your brain.
