ZANESVILLE SHOWED NO CLASS PUNCHUNING IN A TD AT THE END OF THE GAME !!!

1959IRISHA ..

Oh, lord, where do I start? Oh yes -- it was so apparent the officials were doing their best not to let that score get out of hand in the second half, it bordered on unethical.

1 - On Brydon Gillard's long TD run that was called back, I was watching the umpire coming along the line of scrimmage. He TURNED HIS HEAD toward where Brydon was breaking free, then turned back and threw his flag into the pile of bodies where Brydon had cut up inside and took off. It was a clipping call. Don't know how that can be made when all the blockers were already locked up with defenders at that point of the play.

2 - On a drive subsequent to that last one, Anthony Scott was clearly in the end zone. I was 20 yards away, in line with the goal line -- you must have been nearby, but if you were 15 feet away, you must have been on the field; running the chains, were you? -- and more than half the ball was across the goal line, and securely in Scotty's hands. The linesman ran up, placed his left foot six inches from the goal line and then pulled the ball back.

3 - Here's the kicker on that last TD for you: As our kids came to the line of scrimmage, they were not likely to run a play. But (ready?) the official asked our QB if we were going to run a play. The QB wasn't sure yet. The official told him, "Well, you're not going to score anyway!" Several of our players heard him say it. So they ran the play, clearly snapping it a couple seconds before the clock ran out, and scored. If you noticed, not one official signalled a touchdown as they ran off the field. The TD was never recorded on the scoreboard. Only the PA announcer acknowledged what EVERYONE in the stadium knew -- it was a touchdown.

Frankly, if the other two hadn't been called back on bogus calls, I'd bet we'd have taken a knee there. But you can call that six points meaning nothing -- to our senior fullback, who'd just played his heart out in his final game, and who'd already had one other legitimate touchdown taken away, I can guarantee you it matters.

While we can argue over sportsmanship, I think this: Officials are there to administrate a game, not control its outcome or margin of victory. I don't know if those guys were trying to keep it in check to make sure they get future contracts or what, but it was ridiculous the stuff I witnessed late in that game.

On a much lighter note, that is one fine facility you all have down there. It almost seems like it's too big "for the market," but I can't say that y'all didn't "do it right."

I, too, was a bit surprised the Jackson band left early. I understand the "test" issue, but all we did was have some parents drive down and take those back (after halftime) who needed to go home and get some rest. Considering we didn't arrive back at ZHS until 1 a.m., that was a smart move. How Jackson's band chose to handle it was their choice.

So Zaneville takes their frustration on the officials out on Jackson players? Shouldn't they instead be filing a compliant to the league controller who assigns the officials for every league game? I think that person is from Logan.

Zanesville showed NO class by punching the TD in late. NO CLASS AT ALL. Good riddance, get out of the SEOAL. No possible explanation for going for it there other than trying to run the score up, very, very classless.

Hope the Ironmen keep their heads up. It was a rough end to the season. The band doesn't support the team like they used to, so it's no surprise that they left early. They haven't even bothered to make the trip to a couple games the last two seasons, like at Portsmouth last year. That would've never happened in the 90s when the great Mr. Berry was the director.

Jackson needs to have players next season who will make it to the end of the season and not get suspended for ANY reason. Really, is there any team around that has worse CHARACTER players than Jackson? We would win a state title if it came down to worse character players. Sorry, but that's the truth. When the season starts, you can almost pick out at least a couple guys who WON'T make it to the end of the season, and one of them is usually a CAPTAIN!!!! Pretty sad. VERY EMBARRASSING. Jackson needs to correct that problem before they get concerned with winning SEOAL titles. THEY NEED TO HAVE PLAYERS THAT THE COMMUNITY CAN BE PROUD OF, NOT EMBARRASSED OF.

Sometimes when you have the second string in you need to let them play--( do not know if the 2nds were in)

It was the first team, with the starting fullback scoring the touchdown

how can an official stop a touchdown with the ball in play.

to end a quarter and the game the white hat must hold the ball in the air to show the press box the game or quarter is over

Well, I think I'm staying out of all that other stuff since I wasn't actually at the game.

Anyway, good luck to Jackson's seniors. I know things didn't go the way you would have liked, but you're still a huge part of a proud tradition and that means a lot. Keep your heads up.

No fault to the Zville players.

That 5'3 200 lb back killed us....he wanted to win way more than we did and it showed. Great running young man.

How about we not let them run for 60 yard runs in the 4th qtr......get it called back mysteriously and then run about 40 yards on the next play. If not for Lindamood running down their back on every play they mave have scored more than 28 anyways.

And for the fumble they had on the 1......they recovered it on the 1 and ran it in with their knee going down after he crossed the line....so if you are allowed to advance that fumble it should've been a TD.....I'm not savvy on the HS rule on that play.

The last play was snapped before the clock expired and I have no problem whatsoever with it.

Jackson has to get faster.

and as for the band leaving for the ACT....why can't the others stay and play? Did the cheerleaders and football players leave after the half?

I'm not trying to be a butt....but what instruments are made of wood?

Did the Zanesville band not have any instruments made of wood?

A woodwind instrument is a musical instrument which produces sound when the player blows air against an edge of, or opening in, the instrument, causing the air to vibrate within a resonator. Most commonly, the player blows against a thin piece of wood called a reed. Most of these instruments were originally made of wood, but some, such as the saxophone and some flutes, are now commonly made of other materials such as metals or plastics.
